RE: ANSI C63.4:2001 typo?

2003-09-16 Thread Bill Stumpf
Yes, the typo was acknowledged and is being changed in the 2003 version of
ANSI C63.4. The correct height in table 2, third column should be 2 meters.

Subject: ANSI C63.4:2001 typo?

I have a copy of ANSI C63.4:2001. Is the transmit antenna height (h1) for 10
meter measurement distance correct at 3 m? I believe it should be 2 m as it
was in the previous 1992 version of the standard. If this is a typo, is it
being corrected?

RE: Ferrite Sleeving

2003-09-16 Thread Chris Maxwell

Ed,

I tried using it as an absorber glued on top of a chip. It didn't seem to do
much. The comments from others about its brittle nature are also true to my
experience.

Pharmaceutical and Medical Safety Bureau in the Ministry of Health,
Labour and Welfare (http://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/) is the authority
for medical devices.
However, I'm not sure of the availability of required information.

JIS T 0601-1-2 would be applicable as the EMC standard for most medical
devices, and JIS T 0601-1-2 is harmonized with IEC 60601-1-2.
So, in general, we can apply IEC 60601-1-2 as the product family EMC
standard for medical devices to be sold in Japan.

Some medical devices may have additional requirements specified in
the product specific standards.

Tom

Northeast Product Safety Society Meeting on Wednesday, September 24

2003-09-16 Thread Matt Campanella

All,

There will be a joint Northeast Product Safety Society and EMC Society
meeting on Wednesday, September 24, at EMC Corporation's Customer
Briefing Center at 42 South Street in Hopkinton, MA. A social hour with
light refreshments will begin at 6:00 PM and the technical meeting will
start at 7:00 PM. If you will be in the area, please feel free to join
us as NPSS membership or advanced notice is not required.

Isidor Straus, Chief Scientist at Curtis-Straus LLC, will present issues
involved in PCB design and noise generation. His discussion will
provide an overview of basic signal integrity and EMC mechanisms
including emission/immunity models for current loops and voltage dipoles
both common and differential mode. He will present some methods to
minimize these effects with PCB layout, layer stacking, power plane
integrity and component placement. He will also provide some specific
examples for LAN interface layout and EMI control as well as ESD
precautions.

Isidor Straus has been active in the field of regulatory compliance for
over 25 years. He is one of the founders and Chief Scientist at
Curtis-Straus, LLC, and an editor and frequent contributor to the
magazine, /Conformity/. Much of his current work involves correction of
electromagnetic compatibility design problems, and emissions control.
Mr. Straus is an IEEE EMC Society Member, and served as Technical
Committee co-chair for the IEEE 2003 International EMC Symposium in
Boston.

The 2002 NPSS meeting schedule is available on the NPSS website at
http://www.nepss.org/meetings/npss2002kf.html.

Further information about the Northeast Product Safety Society and how
to become a member is available at http://www.nepss.org. You can also
contact one of the NPSS officers via links at

Directions:
>From Route 495 North or South take exit 21B to South Street.
At the first traffic light, turn left (Note: This is on South direction
