[PSES] Compliance engineering contacts at Plextor and Netgear
Hi all, I'm trying to obtain compliance related documentation for a couple of products manufactured by both Plextor and Netgear. The usual technical support channels yield nothing as this sort of request is outside the norm, as I have a project that incorporates these manufacturers products in to a larger system that is about to go through UL Safety testing. With respect, you seem to have missed the point that the NLF has no direct bearing on manufacturers - it is a set of rules and principles for legislators, enforcement agencies and accreditation bodies. You can be forgiven for failing to understand this, others have made the same mistake. However, in practice what it means is that if you are a manufacturer, you can essentially ignore the NLF and focus on what is in the directives and regulations themselves. Competence is not legislated for in any of the New Approach directives, nor is any such requirement introduced in the current set of proposed amendments which will align several of the older Directives with the principles of the NLF. Nick. On 20 Feb 2012, at 22:45, Brian Oconnell wrote: I concur that, for now, the principle that self declaration remains the basis of the system remains in place. How should the requirements for competence and accreditation be addressed? Conformity assessment requires: 1. Internal product control 2. Re: [PSES] Compliance engineering contacts at Plextor and Netgear
Typically, you would request their compliance people to submit the test certs, cb report, emc report, etc directly to the UL assessment engineer. For an end-use product that does not require professional installation, the request for complete safety and EMC documentation is a bit unusual. You mentioned contacting customer service. I generally have good luck calling companies and asking to speak to their Quality Assurance department; often they are the same people doing compliance/certification work, or they know the right people to talk to. Asking sales people for certification info usually doesn't turn out well. -Ken A. Re: [PSES] EU NLF directives
Thanks much. These links were avail via my OP. What I think the EMC proposal says - submit your docs to NB, and they evaluate company's reports. What the NBs have said to me - submit your product to me for test and approval and have the factory subject to CIG audit, because under NLF, we are liable. Other than the intro, the LVD proposal does not even mention the phrase 'Notified Body'; and has some interesting general statements such as The manufacturer, having detailed knowledge of the design and production process, is best placed to carry out the complete conformity assessment procedure for electrical equipment. Conformity assessment should therefore remain the obligation of the manufacturer alone. and Economic operators should be responsible for the compliance of electrical equipment in relation to their respective roles in the supply chain I do not understand the intent of the proposed EMCD. I do understand the intent of the proposed LVD. Re: [PSES] Compliance engineering contacts at Plextor and Netgear
UL, for some components and equipment, has specific doc and construction requirements that would not be specified in the DoC. And UL would probably not accept a company-generated TCF. There is no formal requirement in North America for a mfr to provide reports to customer. http://www.netgear.co.uk/about/regulatory/ above would look to lead to everything you might need simply found by googling netgear declaration of conformity Plextor has similar here http://www.plextor.be/products/plextalk/ptp1.html -Original Message- From: IBM Ken [mailto:ibm...@gmail.com] Sent: 21 February 2012 16:37 To: EMC-PSTC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG Subject: Re: [PSES] Compliance engineering contacts at Plextor and Netgear You mentioned contacting customer service. I generally have good luck calling companies and asking to speak to their Quality Assurance department; often they are the same people doing compliance/certification work, or they know the right people to talk to. Asking sales people for certification info usually doesn't turn out well. -Ken A. Re: [PSES] Compliance engineering contacts at Plextor and Netgear
Netgear: here here. Please take me off the February 21st most wanted list. Ed, just spoke to your colleague, help is on the way, just sign the NDA. BTW, getting these type of requests for test reports and certs are pretty common. Usually doesn't involve Interpol search, simple phone call to the front desk does the trick.
