Sorry, I forgot of thinking of vehicle limits in 2004/104/EC.

For the 2004/104/EC vehicle narrow band limits which is 2 dB lower than
that of EN 55012, the latter requires that the results are at least 2 dB
below the specified limits when a single sample is tested, and then,
they will be effectively identical.

Nice tip Mike, thank you.

e.g. EVS-EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 from Estonia in Estonian English = 22 EUR (18
GBP). There are some licensing restrictions, i.e. unlimited viewing on a single
PC with a maximum of 2 hard copy prints, but you can buy additional user
licenses, e.g 5 user licenses are just 43 EUR (35 GBP), that's about 7 GBP a
copy!

From BSI in the UK, BS EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 costs 168 GBP for non-members and
84 GBP for members, with membership starting at 184 GBP for organisations of
between 1 and 5 employees.

Interestingly, the English only language version from Estonia is 99 EUR (81
GBP), which is less than the BSI members price.

But... it is said that if a deal seems too good to be true, then it IS too good
to be true. I'd be interested to know if/what the catch is here. Otherwise, I
might just go into the standards brokering business! ;-)

Thanks,
Tony

2014-06-12 Thread Kunde, Brian
I purchase standards from Estonia and when you change computers all you have to
do is send them an email and they will reset something and the files will get
locked to the next computer that opens the files. It took a day or so for
emails to go back and forth but otherwise the process went smoothly. I’m soon
to get another computer upgrade so I’ll have to do this again. I’m hoping it
will go a smooth as last time.

Re: [PSES] Television Manufacturing Documentary From The Late 1950's - YouTube

2014-06-12 Thread Douglas Nix
Interesting look back at 1950's manufacturing, especially from a Quality
Assurance, Test and OHS perspective. No workers were using any kind of obvious
PPE except a few on the soldering lines. No hearing protection, dust masks,
safety glasses or other PPE that I could see. Ergonomics sucked in most cases.
From a QA standpoint, it looked to me as if they were trying valiantly to test
quality in, rather than build it in. The outdoor open-area-test site was pretty
interesting too. These are normally inside inflatable structures now, so you
can work in crappy weather as well as good. Cool in any case.

Thanks for sharing this, Dieter!

Re: [PSES] Television Manufacturing Documentary From The Late 1950's - YouTube

2014-06-12 Thread Ed Price
I think I saw an inverted plastic wastebasket protecting the top of the
antenna range vertically scanned receive antenna mast. I also liked the
Stoddart NM-22 or NM-30 series EMI receivers, plus the old Tek 500 series
oscilloscope (bigger than Snoopy's doghouse) on its big roll-around shop
cart.

It's amazing to see how many processes were performed with so many
uncontrolled variables and just how much labor content was expended. I also
liked the big roll mill used to process phosphors; one of my early jobs was
with a company that made technical ceramics (electronics components from
exotic dirts).

BTW, how did they make those shadow masks?

Re: [PSES] Safety Interlock Switches

2014-06-12 Thread Scott Douglas
Many moons ago I went through this exact same cycle. VDE did not like
our refrigerator switch so we went hunting. We eventually settled on a
Cherry F82A series switch that calmed the VDE engineer down. These may
not be available any more. They were rated 50,000 operations.

http://tinyurl.com/lrbspbn

Then later this was changed out to use a Micro Switch WW1K05D-D9. These
were rated 100,000 operations.

http://tinyurl.com/nkaaye4

What I liked about this switch is that is has this little plastic I
shaped piece that can be inserted to cheat the interlock. But if you
try to close the cover with that in place, you either can't or more
likely the cover will dislodge the cheat and cause normal operation to
be restored.

Just a little something from the way-back machine.

The 300 Kg office copier; it has a combination safe holding the
