Re: [PSES] Machinery Leakage Current

Interesting question!

I would agree with 3.5 mA for cord and plug connected stationary equipment up
to several HP. However, note that 8.2.6e) of 60204-1 describes cord and plug
connected equipment with leakage above 10 mA.

However, I think that a quite large piece of machinery that could fall under
the scope of 60204-1 might well have leakage currents above 10 mA, making it
hard to set an absolute limit. As 8.2.6 suggests, such a high current is
probably best addressed by very robust grounding, as well as bonding.

Note also that for North America, UL limits are generally quite lower than 3.5
mA.

Hi Chas and the group,

Why not just turn down the RF power on your router a bit? Doing this also
improves security. You can also change channel assignments as well but that may
require coordination with the others in the building. But lowering the power
level does not. Just set it to be adequate in your space.

Greetings from snowy Colorado!

We have multiple WIFI devices in a lab and we need to suppress the RF signals
(NOT EMI) to reduce the interference from affecting other WIFI areas of the
building.

Does anyone know of a cheap and effective way of doing this?

TIA

Chas

Get in the respective network Router settings and ensure the various WiFi
networks are not using the same channels numbers – & use a wifi inspection App
(something like “WiFi Analsyer”) on a mobile phone to look for unused/ low
signal strength channels to help you choose the ones that allow each network to
use the least used in that area of the building.

NB: might need to get the paid-for version of the App to ensure it can display
all the relevant WiFi bands!

Hi Chas,

You may want to try adding conductive wallpaper. I have seen this to be very
effective. Indeed, I have seen this work well just using commercial baking foil
and some wall paper paste.

It’s a fun project.

Cheers,

Derek.
