[PSES] When is the OJEU going to be updated?

2022-04-28 Thread Kevin McCandless
Hello Experts,

In an earlier thread, I saw a question about the standards referenced in the OJ
being outdated.
And I think the pain point was Turkey.
I have that same pain point!

A lot of my products fall under the HBES/BACS family.
The current product standard is EN 63044-1 with the EMC subparts 5-1,2,3. The
current versions are dated 2017-01.
The summary list of harmonized standards for the EMCD (2014/30/EU) is dated
13-04-2022 and it only lists the EN 50491 series of standards.
The DOW of the EN 50491 series was 03-03-2020. So the OJ is over two years out
of date.
Being bound by the OJ for my DoC's, I have been listing compliance to the EN
50491 standards.
But, they are rejected by Turkey every time because they point out the long
past DOW. And they demand a DoC stating compliance to the current EN 63044
series.

So does anyone on this form know when the OJ will be updated, in particular,
for my product standard series?

Best regards,
Kevin

Re: [PSES] AW: Short Range Device RED standard?

2022-04-28 Thread Dan Roman
Hi Dürrer,

I agree with your list, and it is what I have been using. I have a related
question and that is why aren’t the 301 489 standards published in the list of
harmonised standards in the Official Journal for Directive 2014/53/EU? 300 328
is in the list. 300 440 is there, but incomplete for the purposes of
demonstrating conformity for this category of equipment. And since 301 489-17
is not in the OJ, would the previous version 2.1.1 still be acceptable as well
as the version you cite, 3.2.4?

The list of standards you provide seems to be the prevailing ones that
manufactures and test labs are using. Odd that 489-1 and 489-17 are not in the
OJ. This has bothered me for a while. I never know when Turkish customs will
look at my DoC and reject the product for this reason, they are difficult!

Am I missing something?

Dan

Dear Members,

We have a product being developed which will use a pre-approved radio which has

The radio is a 2.4 GHz module with less than 10mW of transmit power

Re: [PSES] AW: Short Range Device RED standard?

2022-04-28 Thread Mark Ortlieb

Ryan,

Further to Bernd's last comment, the applicable standards you select for
RE Directive compliance is heavily dependent on the product
category/type. FCC obviously won't provide you much guidance as they
cover USA only, and it's also important to remember that FCC is more
heavily focused on radio modules embedded in equipment whereas EU (and
most of the world) looks at radios from an end product (system)
perspective. Therefore the approach you will want to take is to look at
what kinds of standards and EU Directives are typically applied to your
specific type of product.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Ryan,

You should also be looking at ETSI EN 303 446-1 or -2 for guidance on
integrating the radio module into your end product. The FCC has similar KDBs on
the subject for USA deployment.

And also be aware of new cyber security rules being developed, ETSI EN 303 645

Thanks, and, now that you have reminded me, I do seem to remember BS1363-5
(but, TBH, I haven’t been taking a great interest in the evolution of standards
over the last few years, having retired in 2015! 😊).

So as John Woodgate has now pointed out to me, the correct standard for such
adapters is BS 1363-5:2016 “13 A plugs, socket-outlets, adaptors and connection
units. Specification for fused conversion plugs” – and, again, a good summary
of the scope & contents can be found on the ANSI webstore here
https://webstore.ansi.org/preview-pages/BSI/preview_30391432.pdf

Apologies for the error of omission!

We have been checking several travel adopters for importers here in EU, but we
have to fail nearly all of them.

One big issue is the UK plug. As I understand they shall comply with BS 1363-3.
And in this standard §12.4 e) there is a requirement for BS 1363 or BS 643
fuses.

Some adapters have an 5x20 IEC fuse some have thermo fuses and many have no
fuse at all.

Do I overlook some exceptions or new requirements, that allows adaptors without
BS fuse, or are they all just "normal" Asian low quality?
