Re: radar (Germany)

2002-01-10 Thread J.Feldhaar

Hi Ed,

in Germany you have speed ratings for your tires, beginning at 160 KPH
(100 mph)and then on to 190, 220 and 250 and beyond (some cars really go
that fast, take a Porsche or a Ferrari). BMW and Mercedes have a
gentleman agreement that these cars can't exceed 250 KPH (abt 156
mph).
But of course, you can always do chip tuning...

NOW : It is not very often that you can go very fast on a German
motorway, because of lots of traffic, and many traffic jams. Also a big
percentage of the motorways are regulated for 130, 120 100 or even 80
KPH, and a lot of mobile and stationary controlling devices make nice
black-and-white photos of you and the car
I drive a BMW, and I think the last time I drove faster than 200 KPH is
two months ago, and I don't have an ego problem with that!
Anyway, if you are involved in an accident and you drove more than 130
KHP (81 MPH), the court will see negligence on your part for driving so
fast. Of course it is not forbidden - but if there is a problem, you
have a distinct disadvantage!

My 0.02 EURO...

Re: Quasi-Peak Measurements with Spectrum Analyzer WAS: Books about Spectrum Analyzer

2002-01-02 Thread J.Feldhaar

Hi John and all,

I am currently writing a book about the subject of RF spectrum analysis,
which will be ready within the next 3 months. I started more than four
years ago, and now I have 322 pages and more than 250 drawings.

I cover the applications, theory and circuits used in five decades of
spectrum analysis. There is also a chapter where some practical
measurements are shown in some detail, including screenshots and so on.

Unfortunately --- (always a setback) --- it is in German

I don't know if there is a widespread demand for such a book, I began
writing because I couldn't find almost no information via Internet, and
also the great HP appnote 150 is not available any more.

I'll be interested in your feedback

Re: German Translation

2001-11-30 Thread J.Feldhaar

Hi Richard,

Gefährdungen or Gefaehrdungen is the German wird for Danger (Peril)
This form is the plural form, singular is Gefährdung, the noun is
Gefahr.

Word for word pedantic translation would give something like
endangering.

If it is for a manual translation, Danger is the best choice, IMHO.

Greetings,

Jochen Feldhaar DH6FAZ

EMI receiver desensitization and amplitude overhead

2001-11-29 Thread J.Feldhaar

Hi all,

this is my first post to the list. Greetings to all!

I am looking for a URL or graphic that shows the headroom necessary for
correct QP emi measurements using an EMI receiver.

If my information is correct, there must be up to 43.5 dB in excess of
the measurement range for measuring Quasipeak signals correctly,
decreasing when pulse frequency approaches 1 KHz.

I am looking for a source of information or a picture of this graphic.
Note: There are three curves, one each for 200 Hz, 9 KHz and 120 KHz
resolution bandwidth.

Help will be appreciated.

Greetings from ice-cold Germany,

Jochen Feldhaar DH6FAZ
