[PSES] A high voltage Power Quality test?

2023-11-21 Thread Jones, Richard
Has anyone come across a Maximum HV Bus Voltage Impulse test before and how did
they implement it?

This test starts with a steady state at 850V then has a 1.5mSec Rise Time to
1200V and immediately drops 1.5mS Fall time back to 850V. The impulse being a
triangular waveform.

Trying to work out the best way to implement, not sure of the impedance yet but
I am thinking we're driving at least 30 amp load

Couldn't get a rental unit at short notice, and there is a lead time on a new

Unfortunately the High Frequency response and current is important so it sounds
from Doug's email that it will have to be the 2877 as no substitute

Subject: [External] Re: [PSES] Pearson RF Current Probe

I have a Pearson Model 2877 and used it on a project where the electric field
was quite strong and the current very minute, so I needed much more electric
field shielding than afforded by the typical current probe design. This was
after copper taping a conventional current probe (1.25" window diameter so
naturally larger seams compared to the Model 2877's 0.25" window diameter) with
6 dB higher transfer impedance (into 50 Ω), and seeing nothing but the electric
field coupling. The Model 2877 gave me the electric field shielding I needed
to make the measurement.

In terms of frequency coverage, the only way I know to get that wide is with a
Hall-effect oscilloscope probe. But it won't have the dynamic range. And likely
not the E-field shielding (although I have never measured that).

The 2877 is quite inexpensive - I'm curious why a substitute is necessary?

Re: [PSES] Floor Absorbers for S-VSWR and 61000-4-3 Field Uniformity

2015-08-27 Thread Jones, Richard
In another life I tried the 60cm absorber for the S-VSWR test and had major
problems around 1-2GHz, in the end they were replaced with larger absorber. The
issue was the ground and ceiling reflection between the two antennas wasn’t
being properly attenuated by the smaller cones (looking back it made sense
thicker absorber = more attenuation but at the time you’re working almost
blind).
For the 16point cal the distance between the absorber and the isotropic probe
also caused a problem as it skewed the original results. (You need to keep the
16point cal positions away from the absorber, in a small chamber this can be
tricky and a compromise takes time, lots of time)

Hope this helps

Subject: Re: [PSES] Floor Absorbers for S-VSWR and 61000-4-3 Field Uniformity

We purchased our absorber material many years ago now, so things maybe
different than it was then.

We were told that the absorber material most labs were using for 61000-4-3
testing above 1Ghz was “Too Tall” to be used for S-VSWR verification. So we
worked with TDK who recommended a shorter absorbing material which should meet
both requirements. Though we purchased and use this material and get good
unified field data for 61000-4-3, we have never tested this material in the
S-VSWR verification setup. Someday when we expand our radiated emissions
testing above 1Ghz we will find out.

So bottom line, I recommend working with an absorber manufacture to help you
find a material that will meet your specific needs.

Hope this information was helpful.

different type/model of the absorbers must be used. Is this true?

Thank you very much.

[PSES] Suitable Transformer for AF E Field Susceptibility Test

2015-08-25 Thread Jones, Richard
Hi

Question for the DO-160 people out there, looking for an alternative High
Voltage Transformer to run Section 19 testing.

Currently trying a NEON sign transformer but have found the type we have is
filtered (can you believe it!). If anyone has successfully used one or have a
tried alternative I'd like to hear what you used :-)

The frequency response needs to be 380Hz - 15KHz as a minimum but up to 32KHz
preferred. We're driving it with a TECHRON amp and need to make 5.5KV but very
little current

Thanks

KN22 and KN24 are based on CISPR22 and 24 not the EN standards, however if the

[PSES] EMC Standard Listings with /AC in the suffix

2012-04-28 Thread Jones, Richard (Richard)
Hi Everyone

I was looking at the implementation date for EN55022:2010 and noticed that
there was another line added underneath showing

EN55022:2010/AC:2011 (new)

Is this some sort of amendment, I see there are a number of standards with /AC
on them . There is no implementation date either
I'm sure there is an obvious answer, but I can't see it yet!

Rich

If it is an amendment what does it contain? Not that I'm cynical :) but I've
seen some which you pay serious
money for and they're nothing more than a cover sheet!
