RE: EN 50141 and EN 61000-4-6

So what do I do? Follow the EN 50130-4 : 1996 standard that states; The
test apparatus procedure shall be as described in ENV 50141 : 1993, with the
following modifications and clarifications taken into account.
or do I substitute EN 61000-4-6 in place of ENV 50141.

It looks as if you are right, but in the case of any ENV
version of a standard, this calling out is incorrect.
Any ENV standard is NOT a standard. It was never meant
to be used as a standard but temporarily. The EN version following it
WAS. However, in this case the EN 50141 was not published,
so the only alternative is the EN 61000-4-6.
The ENV version, as it says itself, automatically becomes
non-existent as soon as its successor is published.

John,

Even though the ENV is a pre-standard, if a Product Family
Standard calls it
out you must test to it. Am I not correct.
Case in point, EN 50130-4 Product Family Standard for Alarm Systems calls

RE: surges on 24VAC

2001-12-21 Thread Mavis, Robert

The AC Mains test is just that AC Mains. The Definition of AC mains is
basically what comes out of the wall. Since the product is 24VAC it falls
under low voltage/signal lines. Test is as a signal line.

Subject: surges on 24VAC

Hello everyone,
I am currently trying to test a product of ours that falls under
50082-1
generic standard for light industrial equipment. Our problem is that we
have a 24VAC power input port. The generic standard calls out for EN
61000-4-5 on AC power input ports. After looking at EN 61000-4-5 it seems
that it is intended for AC mains voltages, but I couldn't find anything that
says a 24VAC input is exempt from this test. I am looking for outside
opinions on whether this test is truly applicable.

Thanks,
Jennifer Banh

BTW, we already tried just testing to the spec, and failed. Any suggestions
on how to protect against this test would also be appreciated.

Hello Group,

This question is in regards to a CE Marked assembly.
The Completed end unit is CE Compliant and Marked. The end unit is
disassembled and shipped in 2 shipping containers into the EU. What are the
CE Marking requirements for the two shipping containers?

Do we place a CE mark on both? We have only tested the unit as a whole and
testing the parts separately is not typical installation or use.

Chamber Acceptability Questions

2001-01-11 Thread Mavis, Robert
Hello to all in the group,

I have been inundated with questions from the executive staff from my
company and would like to field these questions with the listserv group:

1. There has been talk about CISPR accepting 3-meter Semi anechoic full-size
chambers for CE Compliance. If this is true when can we expect this to be
published in the CISPR documents?

2. Can a 3-meter compact semi-anechoic chamber be used for FCC
compliance/verification testing?

3. The is supposedly a draft standard for the Free-Space Chambers. Will
these chambers be accepted for FCC/CE? How far along is the draft standard
from being published?

4. Is the free-space chamber data accepted by the FCC?

5. Are there any companies using a Free-space chamber for compliance?

6. What certifications will be required for a manufacturer to test/certify
using a in-house facility?

Hello all,

Have any of you successfully hooked up a television to an HP8590 series EMC
analyzer? The monitor output does provide NTSC format, I am now assuming
that I need to provide a carrier for the monitor output to ride on in order
for the TV to see the NTSC signal and know what to do with it. Is there an
easier way to do this than to build my own modulator?

Robert,
I have always found the European color codes (brown/light blue/green
w/yellow) to be best for dual market use. UL and CSA seem to have no problem
with the use of these. You will need to provide some kind of legend plate or
tag explaining the color codes, as many U.S. electricians are still not
familiar with these.

Yes certain UL standards have accepted the Lt Blue for the neutral. But
therein lies the conflict. The NEC states that the neutral (grounded

the

Yes, the NEC does indeed accept blue for
the neutral color for cords, but not for
building wiring. See:

Cords: NEC Articles 200(c), 400-22(c), 400-23.
Buildings: NEC Articles 200-7, 210-5.

Specifically, 400-22(c):

For jacketed cords furnished with
appliances, one conductor having its
insulation colored light blue...

(UL would not accept blue unless the NEC
first accepted blue.)
