Re: [PSES] [EXTERNAL] [PSES] Taiwan BSMI Product Labelling

2023-07-31 Thread Ryan Jazz
Hello Cecil,
Yes the product needs to be labelled in simplified Chinese, also the product
manual.
The Chinese will be needed for any safety related verbiage such as volts, amps
etc. and product ‘type’. (main function)
Symbols can be used as an alternate.
The English can be shown, as long as the Chinese is also present.
Foreign manufactures name can be in English.
I am sorry I cannot point you to the source at this time.
Sincerely,
Ryan Jazz

Dear Ryan,

Table 10 - input is your temporary overvoltage. Normally 2000Vpk for mains
voltages up to 250Vac
Table 11 - input is your working voltage
Table 14 - input is your transient voltage - defined by OVC (for OVC II
2500Vpk).
So table 11 brings you very low value and normally table 10 and 15 are
dominating.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Boštjan

Dear Members,
Hope you can help me understand the requirement for the clearance needed
between the bottom PCB of power supply to metal chassis.
Looking up UL 62368-1 Third Edition, and using the 'Voltage up to an including
peak' of 2000 V for overvoltage category II Table 10 for <30 kHz.
I see the clearance is 1,27 mm.
Going over to Table 11 >30 kHz this clearance value jumps to 13,2 mm.
Am I doing this correctly? Or should I be using the 'working voltage' of the
power supply, Primary to Earthed Dead Metal 392 Vpk, Primary to Secondary 520
Vpk.
100-240 Vac, 100 W, 90 kHz switching frequency, AC power supply with a 2x3 inch
footprint.
End product is, overvoltage category II, pollution degree 2, material group III.
Indoor audio music processor, Class 1.
All guidance would be appreciated.
If this 13,2 mm value is indeed correct, I may need to use an insulator under
the power supply.
Any recommendations for a UL rated insulator type?
Thank you,

Hi Ryan:

UL makes some of its money through certifications. Regardless of product
safety, components, including connectors, are certified; their required use in
end-products justifies the requirement for certification of those components.
So, this is one of those unwritten requirements. And, if they are not
certified, you will put the demand back on your supplier, who will apply to UL
(which will result in more certification business).

For example, see https://www.ul.com/services/ul-taiwan-usb-test-lab This is
for USB connectors and cable, and has little to do with safety (except for
extended power range (EPR) in the USB PD specification).

As far as I know, there is no requirement in IEC 62368-1, but there may be such
requirement in UL 62368-1. As one respondent said, ask to see the requirement.

Good luck!
Rich

[PSES] AC Adaptor - Singapore - Brand Name?

2023-02-10 Thread Ryan Jazz
Hello Members,
We have an AC Adaptor we purchase and rebrand with our model number.
We are renewing our AC Adaptor certificate for Singapore.
We have been told this adaptor is required to display our brand name (logo).

  * If this is indeed a requirement can someone please cite the source?
We would like to use this on two different brands and draw from the same stock
and thus would like to keep them "unbranded".

The government has introduced the legislation to make it happen. The government
has a majority in parliament therefore passage of the legislation is as
certain as anything can be in politics. As it is right now, CE marking (and
alternatively UKCA marking) is recognized in the UK, so as long as the
legislation passes prior to Dec 31st, it will simply be a continuation of the

Dear Scott & Lauren,

Today, I received the following info to supplement the above development.

"Some news from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
(BEIS):-

HMG intends to introduce legislation to continue recognition of the CE marking
and reversed epsilon marking until 31 December 2024 for most goods being placed
on the market or put into service in Great Britain as part of new ministers’
commitment to reduce burdens for industry.

This package of measures is intended to provide businesses with more
flexibility and reduce burdens

[PSES] Country Requirements -EMC Safety

2022-08-18 Thread Ryan Jazz
Dear Members,
I am trying to create a list of country requirement as it relates to EMC and
Safety requirements.
However I have not been successful-These requirements appear to be a mystery.
One would think if manufacturers are required to meet country requirements it
would be public knowledge.
I have checked trade.gov and other searches with no luck.
If anyone can please share this secret it would be much appreciated.
Perhaps you can share how you go about finding these requirements.
If one has to use a subscription service to get the answers I would like to
hear any recommendations.
Sincerely,
Ryan Jazz

[PSES] USB port for data only

2022-06-08 Thread Ryan Jazz
Dear Members
Our company is designing a battery powered device that uses a USB port to
update firmware.
This port cannot be used to provide 5VDC to charge or power external devices as
we won't be providing those connections. (to limit battery power)
How best should we label this USB port to indicate this port cannot supply
power.
Is there are special logo anyone is aware?
Of course we will mention this in the user manual, but need another method on
the product itself to avoid user frustration.
Like to hear your thoughts.
Kind Regards,
Ryan Jazz

[PSES] Lithium Battery -BSMI certification?

2022-05-10 Thread Ryan Jazz
Hello Members,
We have a product that uses a 3.7 VDC, 600 mAH secondary Lithium Ion battery.
The battery is manufactured in China and has an IEC 62133-2 test report and a
UL 2054 report.
The battery also has a CQC report and certificate.

  * Will this battery need a BSMI certification in order for the final
product to be sold into Taiwan.
I appreciate and welcome all comments.

[PSES] Short Range Device RED standard?

2022-04-27 Thread Ryan Jazz
Dear Members,
We have a product being developed which will use a pre-approved radio which has
WiFi and Bluetooth.
The radio is a 2.4 GHz module with less than 10mW of transmit power
I am trying to determine to what RED standard(s) I must test the final product.
I posed this question to a local Southern California lab, and I was told they
were not allowed to answer as the manufacturer has to make that determination.
We have had other similar SRD products tested by various labs, before my time,
and some of them were tested to EN 300-440 and others to EN 301-489.
I have looked at this new radio's FCC Grant and it doesn't say what the
end-user must do-and same with the radio manufacturer, who cannot answer.
I even looked into the ERC Recommendation 70-03 and also the ETSI search tool
and could not find a definitive answer.
The radio is a 2.4 GHz module with less than 10mW of transmit power.
Any advise you can give me on will be much appreciated.

[PSES] RED DoC and ETSI EN 301 489-1

2022-03-25 Thread Ryan Jazz
Dear members,
We have a Short Range Device transmitter and corresponding receivers we install
in various enclosures for which we have test reports from different US labs.
Transmitter power is less than 10mW and uses the 2.4GHz band.
The various reports issued show the ETSI EN 301 489-1 V1.9.2 as one of the
standards to which they were tested. The other is EN 300 440 V2.1.1.

  * My question is how do we show this ETSI standard in the RED Declaration
of Conformity when this standard is listed only in the OJEC under the EMC
Directive?
Many RED guidance articles mention the EMC Directive should not be identified
in the RED DoC.
Is it OK to list this ETSI standard under the RED Directive-I am afraid it
would be misleading or raise a red flag. (pun unintended).
Instead of this ETSI standard, should we list the EN 55035:2017 standard
instead, which is published in the OJEC under the RED?
I would appreciate your valuable advice.
Sincerely Yours,
Ryan Jazz

[PSES] Declarations of Conformity-Gap Analysis Reports-EMC

2022-02-11 Thread Ryan Jazz
Dear Group,
I am afraid the answer to my question may rely on purchasing 'before and after'
standards and sifting out the delta in order to prepare a Gap Report to a
Declaration of Conformity.

  * If there is an alternate method please advise. A recommended service
perhaps. Decoder Ring?
At the moment I am stuck trying to come up with a source I can reference to
explain the difference between EN 55035:2017, vs. EN 55035:2017/A11:2020, and
EN 55032:2015, vs EN 55032:2015/A11:2020.
This forum touched on it last October by sharing a document referring to the
Frankfort Agreement
(https://boss.cenelec.eu/media/4dij213u/en_iecreferencing.pdf)

  * Is there a similar explanation for the latest amendments to 55035, and
can someone share a good source to find these difference.
Not sure why these matters have to be so cryptic in this already mazy world of
product compliance.
I've been at this since 1999 and this is one area where I have not felt
well-heeled.
Your help and guidance is greatly appreciated.
