EMC requirements USA

2003-11-10 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Dear Group,

In North America, are there any EMC testing and performance requirements
specifically covering industrial process measuring equipment?

Many thanks in anticipation of your replies.

RE: NEW EMC Standards

2003-07-24 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Dear Group

I am on the point of specifying a new signal generator for in-house
radiated immunity testing. Does anybody out there have a feel for where the
upper test frequency limit is likely to go for industrial instruments
covered by EN 61326 and similar? Is it likely to remain at 1 GHz, or is an
extension to 2 GHz, or even higher seen on the far and distant horizon?

Thanks for your help

Ian Unwin

US Product Safety Standards

2003-03-17 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Dear Group,

We manufacture gas monitoring equipment for process plant and lab use.
Historically, before being marketed in the US the non hazardous area
product versions have been submitted for electrical safety assessment under
either UL 61010A-1 or FM3810.

Can anyone advise me what the differences are (if any) between these two
standards and also when one would be applied in preference to the other?

Many thanks

RE: MRA US-EU: Sectoral Annex Safety suspended

2003-01-29 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Dear Group,

Having read the document given, can anybody explain what it means?

As an instrument manufacturer selling products into both the US and EU do
I need to panic over this, or can I ignore it and sleep peacefully in my
bed at nights?

'DOW' of standards

2003-01-28 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Dear Group,

The OJ for the LVD (page C317/73) gives 1.1.2004 as being the date beyond
which IEC 61010-1:1990/A2:1995 can no longer be used to presume
conformance with the requirements of this Directive. After this date, can
equipment previously assessed to this standard still be marketed without
reassessment to the new standard (IEC 61010-1:2001)? If so, until when?

Between 1.4.2001 (the 'dow' of IEC 61010-1:1990+A1:1992 (Modified)) and
1.1.2004 (the dow of IEC 61010-1:1990/A2:1995), can either IEC
61010-1:1990/A2:1995 or IEC 61010-1:2001 be used to presume conformance
 with the requirements of LVD?

Apologies if the answers to the above have been covered before and are
thus locked up in the group's archives.

Re: Wee Directive

2003-01-23 Thread iun...@servomex.com

Ian,

As a process equipment manufacturer we are members of GAMBICA
(www.gambica.org.uk), a UK trade association covering automation,
instrumentation and control technologies. This group regularly provides us
with valuable information on directives such as WEE, and acts as a point of
contact for answering any queries we may have.

Subject:Wee Directive

Hi everybody

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive in Annex 1B lists
the products covered by the Directive. Most of the products are consumer
type products. As a company which produces industrial control equipment we
need need to be sure we are covered before we proceed. We do not want to
waste time and money.

Our reading is we come under the Directive but would like the council of
informed legal opinion. Can any one suggest anybody or organisation apart
>from the Department of Trade and Industry who did not want to be tied down
to giving one.

Thanks

Ian White
