RE: New EU Member States
Thanks to those who responded. I found and searched the whole treaty concerning the assession of the new members states. There is mention of some other directives such auto, medical and packaing waste, but not the LV, EMC and RTTE Directives. Thus, it appears that the requirements for those three directives are in effect upon entry into the EU. The treaty can be found at http://europa.eu.int/comm/enlargement/negotiations/treaty_of_accession_2003/ index.htm Richard Woods Sensormatic Electronics Tyco International > -Original Message- > From: WOODS, RICHARD > Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2003 12:08 PM > To: 'emc-pstc' > Subject: New EU Member States > > I received information that the Czech Republic has until 2005 to > completely implement the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive. RE: New EU Member States
Rich See http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/regulation/pecas/pecas.htm for the PECA's relating to Hungary, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovak Republic, Estonia Brief info also given on Poland, Malta, Romania, Bulgaria - see also the hyperlinks on the page called "negotiations" and "sectors". For more info, put "country name + PECA" in a search engine . Being "awkward", I generally use Altavista (not Google), and that took me to some very relevant URL's and documents! Try it and see! RE: New EU Member States
As a matter of interest, I have read that the enlargement of the EU is going to provide many, many jobs as translators, and there are anticipated to be major problems ahead since for some language combinations it is expected that there is no-one trained as a translator, and therefore they would need a translator to translate language A into, for example, English, and then another translator to translate from English into language B. I have listed what I understand to be the ISO 2-letter country codes and official languages of these states, but I am seeking confirmation of the accuracy of this information. Under the RTTE Directive, a DoC in the national language must be included with the equipment. However, what is not clear to me concerning Malta, for example, is if the DoC must be in both Maltese and English or in at least one of those languages. Comments? Re: New EU Member States
I'm not sure if the official EU language of Cyprus includes Turkish just yet as that is the main dispute between EC and Turkey. The Turkish occupied territory of Cyprus, which is not included in the EC decision, is the part where Turkish is spoken. In the un-occupied part, Cyprus, Greek is spoken.
