Could be some misunderstanding here. I will contact you off-list about your
experience with moderation but it is very strange that you were removed from
the Mach1Mach2CNC Yahoo! list for asking about APIs etc. To my knowledge, as
a moderator for more than 3 years, only a very few spammers have ever been
removed.

The driver for the G100 has evolved over several iterations but at all times
the source of it has been publically available.

Although it would be a daunting task to emulate a G100, drivers do also
exist for ncPod (http://ncpod.oemtech.com/) and Galil controllers and Art
Fenerty will support anyone wanting to add a controller. Of course, how
technically satisfactory this would be depends on the match of Mach3
architecture with the interface to the motion controller.

Finally, a personal observation. The division of intelligence between the
"user" machine and a "controller" is a particularly challenging problem
because of the conflicting needs to lookahead and buffer motion to provide
responsive jogging and feed-hold. Doing as much in one place (e.g. the PC)
has a lot of attractions!

2007-04-01 Thread Stuart Stevenson
Gentlemen,
Thanks guys. I like your solution way better than my idea.
In setting this up it did not occur to me to try to rapid to the
soft lime to see if it would hit the hard limit. I don't like to test
the machine by trying to break it. The MDSI control I put on has the
slow down spans. When I (you) got homing to work my next thought was
about the spans.
I will set the soft limits a large distance from the end of travel
and try this.
I really appreciate you answering (putting up with) my questions.
I have been looking for a way to help. I feel any help I could offer
would be like the blind leading the blind.

More advanced Trajectory types is one benefit. Not sure what EMC2
supports, as I have not used it to run a machine yet. I can't even
comment on it.

Not sure which list you are talking about, but I seriously doubt any
opinons would make either group kick someone out.

Also in bed with Galil, The NC-Pod people, and soon DaltaTau? I think
it's more like they are trying to take it further, sometimes trying to
do it a little too fast ;)

I'll use whatever I feel is going to suit my needs, I have some issues
with Mach, and I'm sure I'll find some with EMC2. But at the end of the
day I'll try to not be a zealot of either cause.

Hi Stuart

I can't read back on this thread right now but if this is stepper, there may be
one other cause of abrupt stop at the end of a commanded travel. It's old but
may still be an issue. If the step pulse generator can't quite keep up with
spitting out pulses they pile up at the end.

Well, I tried to get Art to support, or help ME support my PPMC
line of servo controllers under Machx. He declined to do
anything on it, after sounding enthusiastic for a short while.
The major problem is my controllers don't have "intelligence",
need the PC to close the servo loop, and have no buffering of
commands. His big complaint is that floating point calculation
would be needed in the "real time" interrupt service
environment. (I agree that F.P. would be a better way to go,
but historical CNC controls have done the servo loop with fixed
point calculation.)

Yes, I certainly agree. It makes monitoring and setup a lot
easier, and you can have the PC report the servo performance
anytime you think something might be wrong. No need to change
cables, download firmware or anything.

changes to? This is all very new to me but I have made improvements and need
people to test/approve them. Thanks.

Pardon the basic question but I finally have a modem that works on my

Ubuntu6.06lts. I need help finding and configuring a dialer I guess...
My external modem is at /dev/ttys0. I have had modems that will connect
using KDE but this Gnome thing has me totally baffled.

Please help me find and configure a dialer so I can update things...

Subscribe to the emc-developers list. Post a description of what you
want to do there, and start a discussion. If people like your plans,
great. If there is disagreement, we will work it out on the list.

When its time to commit changes, you can submit a patch to an existing
developer who will commit it, or you can send a ssh key to Chris Radek
to be added to the cvs server. We prefer that people make their first
contribution by sending a patch for review, once that has been accepted
future commits can be made directly.

Its also a good idea to subscribe to the emc-commit list (definitely do
so once you have commit access to CVS) so you can keep informed about
what other developers are doing.

I haven't used dialup in years, but here is the script I use for autodial
access for many years. Edit to suit your ISP's requirements, and make a
starter link from whatever runlevel you normally start linux in, with a
fairly low S number in that rc#.d directory. It should start before your
network does. If the network is S10network, then make the link
S09network etc etc.

Hi Chris,

this is good news ..
There is a mailing list for devel related things here:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=emc-developers
You can drop your ideas in there, and we'll see how we can proceed.

If it's changes to classicladder only, (depending on the changes) we
probably want to get them into the original project.
Classicladder has been integrated into emc2, but it is a project on
it's own..

I don't want to take this to far off the topic of EMC, but Art has
released a SDK for writing 'plug-ins' that has been used to do the
galil, ncPOd and a few input devices. If you really want to support your
device, and if its possible under the limits of windows, then you now
have the needed tools to do it.

I know thats not 'open', but its about as close as windows gets.

This is non-EMC related information. There is a rather rude but honest
statement that goes "STFW". It means "Search the F***ing Web".

In this case, the very first entry you get when you put Ubuntu
Dialup Networking into Google is:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=390599

That is a forum specifically focused on helping people get dial-up
working on Ubuntu. The people there are far more likely to be able
to help you than we are. In addition, that post includes a link to the
Ubuntu Dialup Modem HowTo:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto

A HowTo is exactly what it sounds like - step by step instructions
telling you how to do something.

We are happy to try to answer EMC related questions, and within limits
we will answer general Linux questions when we can. But there is far
more information out there on the web then we can possibly have. The
first step when you have a problem is to try to find the answer
yourself. Even the fastest mailing list response is slower than
searching the web or reading the manual. And the satisfaction of
finding the answer for yourself is worth something too!

John Kasunich

[Emc-users] new install, can't get needed packages to compile Axis

2007-04-01 Thread Jon Elson
Probably for Chris of Jeff,

I did a fresh install of the Ubuntu 6.06 and was trying to
apt-get all the necessary packages to compile EMC. When I
got to the ./configure I ran into this :

checking for GL/gl.h ... no
Required OpenGL header missing

I tried to apt-get install xlibmesa-gl-dev
bit it said this package has pbeen replaced, but what it
recommended couldn't be found, either.

Any ideas? I just did this a couple weeks ago and it seemed to
work fine!

Thanks,

Jon
