[Emc-users] Workshop / EMC fest

2009-03-04 Thread Jon Elson
Is there any news to report on a new venue to replace to CNC Workshop
and/or EMC fest?
I'd like to see a replacement for the full range of the CNC Workshop,
but if we are only going to have an EMC Fest, I'd like to attend that.

If the CNC Workshop doesn't happen, then I'm going to attend the NAMES
show for sure. Have to start planning, it is only 6 weeks away!

Thanks in advance for any news anyone can report,

Jon

I think it's up to us to decide. Nobody is going to be able to make a
full Workshop replacement this year because there's no longer time. I
also haven't heard any talk of anyone wanting to do it.

So I propose we narrow our goals to something EMC-specific. That's my
interest anyway.

We've had several offers of venues for an EMC meeting. I think
Stuart's is the most appealing because of interesting ongoing projects
there. So that's my preference.

I recall there being a suggestion for something in Ann Arbor due to its
proximity for Toledo and coinciding with the NAMES show. I live in the
Toledo area and certainly wouldn't mind seeing it held in this neck of the
woods. A² is only a 45 min drive from Toledo. I don't have any space to
offer (here or in A²) for a gathering (or time to commit to planning, etc.)
but would like to attend some CNC workshop/EMC fest sessions, etc. I will
be attending NAMES as well Jon.

I have a couple ideas for a workshop/fest location that I could work on
softening up for next year.

Stuart is closer to me than Ann Arbor, so I also prefer that. I'd also
love to see his shop, and the 5-axis Cinci mill!
I'm planning on going to NAMES, too, and I think Steve Stallings is also
going there. So, maybe we need a breather between April 17 and the EMC
fest. Probably June would be fine, though, if people were already
reserving some time that month.

As for projects, I will have my commutation converter for Panasonic
brushless motors, and hopefully it can be adapted to other motors, too.
Also, I'd like to work on a low-pass filter on the D term of the PID, to
try to get rid of the 1/2 F sampling jitter.
(Yes, a surprisingly sparse offering for a whole year)
