How did you trace that? oszillosope? The problem came out of the blue. I have
a hard time to believe it is from this, I did not change the mill.

I have neither of this, currently organising ferrite rings.

I will let the mill dryrun the jobs without the spindle running.

I'll be back

Where would I find more verbose documentation on this? I am new to

I think that Bridgeport started the software development but it doesn't

Is this the same software that is used on the EZ Turn Bridgeport lathes?

[Emc-users] Help with Kinematics

2009-12-17 Thread Dave Fansolato
I am interested in using EMC2 to control a homemade SCARA type arm.

My question is how do I configure the arm lengths and required info for the
kinematics to be correct.

Do I select the scara setup that is already in EMC2?

Is there a way to modify the existing scara kinematic file that is included
with EMC2?

Do I have to write my own kinematics?

I am a total newbie when it comes to Linux and EMC2.

You may have to hold my hand through this but all/any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Purely observation Chris,

At first everything worked OK for about a year, then I
started to get a spate of broken cutters and realised that
the z-axis was very slowly drifting downwards during a cut.
I put a dial gauge on a magnetic base on the table with the
plunger under the z-axis and watched it both with the
spindle running and with it not running. When it ran, the
z-axis moved down about 10 thous a minute - in my case, on
very small work, this was enough to quickly break sub-1mm
carbide end mills.

I only passed this on as a possibility - your case may be
different but your situation is most probably caused by
electrical interference either at a frequency within the
normal operating frequency of your axis motor or at a
multiple of it which is producing a beat frequency. I
suppose that if you measure the speed at which the axis is
moving when it should be stationary, you should be able to
work out the frequency of the interference and maybe use
that information to track down the cause

Best wishes,
Ian

Re: [Emc-users] Commercial Info

2009-12-17 Thread Kenneth Lerman
Li's posting brings to mind a question.

Should we provide an area on our Wiki for listings of a commercial
nature? In particular should we provide a place where EMC consultants
can post their contact information?

In the past, I believe we've seen people who would like to retrofit
machines to EMC, but lack the hardware and/or software support to do so.

I believe that we should allow:
1 -- A listing page where contact information is provided. This would
permit three or four lines per person.
2 -- User pages -- limited to text only that one could use for a brief
(we could limit the number of lines) pitch describing the services provided.

This would be supported by a single link on the front page of the Wiki.
Anyone who didn't want to look at sales pitches wouldn't have to look at it.

We provide links to commercial hardware, and it's helpful. I think
providing listings for consultants is a good idea.

"EMC is free and open-source software, and there are freely-available
online sources of documentation, information, and help at . As an additional resource, consultants who provide service
related to EMC may list their contact information along with a brief
(1-line) description. (More detailed information may be placed on a
separate wiki page--text only, one or two paragraphs.)"

Some boards allow to disable the ethernet in bios, kindly verify it is enabled
first.

I do not have this board, but several other asus boards. They always worked. I
just glanced at the asus page
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6nnVb6RBxd7PhGmt
it is stated it has Intel G31 Intel ICH7 chipset. nothing said about the
ethernet chip. So, I would suggest you do a lspci and probably paste the output
here. it will look something like this:
...
00:10.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP55 Ethernet (rev a2)
00:11.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP55 Ethernet (rev a2)
...
then you may google for the correct kernel module and load it manually like
ths : insmod forcedeth

I always have a knoppix live cd available. booting this, will give you most
liekly a working configuration for your hardware, look at lsmod output and
compare it to lspci. I had a similar problem once (not emc2) and was able to
convince the distro to load the correct kernel module based on the knoppix
lspci / insmod output. In that case I had to tweak the modprobe.conf to get it
permanently right.
