 Hi Oscar,

As I think I mentioned before, we are moving away from LyX,
so it would be better if you could wait just a bit and start
with the revised AsciiDoc (.txt) files I'm about to push.
Or, if you can't wait, start with the existing .txt files
 instead of the .lyx files.

In either case I would be happy to handle the git part of
the job, if you don't want to. Thanks very much for wanting
 to help with this translation.

yes it should work with your emc2 system fine- may take some skills

Hi - yep, this is a real 3d scanner - here's some work we did with it
a few months ago
http://aladigital.blogspot.com/2009/03/inspeck-3d-camera-gaston-wyatt-cnc-and.html

there's a tool in blender to turn a point cloud in to a mesh, and that
can be exported in to .stl .obj .3ds .dxf etc

i'm camping out on the IRC channel until i get my first cnc project up
- it's a small sherline 5400 3 axis... wish me luck ya'll :)

 Anson,

The inexpensive 3D scanners that are easily configured are really what
many consider 2.5D, kind of like
most folks use of routers with 3D.  It basically means no undercuts in
 the 3D model.  Many buildings,
terain, etc do well with this kind of scanning.

I haven't tried the EMC scanning, but the results I have seen from
MACH3, is that it generates a
point cloud (X, Y, and Z where the surface was detected).  I think I
 remember reading EMC has the
 capabilities too.

Take care and let us know more about your project as you get time!

 Hello, all,

I will be demo-ing EMC2 at the NAMES show in April. I wanted
to have some contouring program to show the fast EMC2 block
 processing rate.
Does anyone have anything interesting that I could maybe cut
out of wax that has a lot of short vectors? The machine will
be a 150 Lb minimill, so it has a 4 limit in the Y axis.

I could probably code up something that writes G-code to
carve a hemisphere or something like that, but if somebody
has a more interesting surface that might be good. I need to
re-scale the penguin and try that, too.

[Emc-users] getting emc + sherline 5400+ k179 controllers + step syn + astrosyn stepper motors up in charlottesville

2009-02-21 Thread anson parker
Hi All - maybe this is the best place to post this, maybe not... as
stated these are the parts

Sherline 5400
3 k179 stepper controllers
z-axis ='s step syn motor (p/n 2462561) rated at 2 degrees per step
1.4 Amps, 4.5 Volts
x,y axis ='s astrosyn miniangle stepper (type 231 mc705) 1.8 degrees
per step 2.4 Amps, 3 Volts

everything is wired up according to the k179 spec sheet, however magic
numbers appear missing for actual milling any thoughts? we need
the .ini and .HAL files? completely new to this stuff greatly
appreciate any help... also anyone in the charlottesville area
interested in playing around is invited :)
