Re: [Emc-users] OT - Ford diesels
I love diesel cars, and I have driven VW diesels since 1985 (only 3 of them). It's crying shame what restrictions they have imposed on USA diesel cars. They've overcomplicated a once elegantly simplistic design that was years ahead of anything else on the road (and NO computers or batteries required). My current 1993 Jetta gets 48-52 MPG but the sheet metal is on it's last legs. What I don't understand, is the diesel cars (old design) pollute to much so we must ban them, but the 400HP pickup trucks are allowed. Makes no sense. BTW I would never own a modern VW diesel...what an over priced engineering nightmare. dk -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Re: [Emc-users] C Axis in Lathe
Wow, that's cool.but all I wanna do is index to drill and chamfer a cross hole in a small 'hitch pin'. Simple stuff comparatively, but a lot less work in the lathe instead of a second operation in a mill w/ indexer dk Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Years ago I read an article on a guy that used a small lathe to make the hundreds of 'pull stop handles' they needed for rebuilding large pipe organs. ... A great use of CNC work! A simple thing, but they needed so many that doing them by hand was problematic. -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. [Emc-users] OT-Retrofitting machines
There is a bit of talk on some machine shop forums, arguments perhaps, that retrofitting a machine is a waste of time. And that it's time and money well spent to just buy a good used machine and move on with making money with it. [Emc-users] Using a PC in extended temperature ranges and mobile application
If you go with a standard PC motherboard, I would get a can of clear lacquer and apply 2 coats to both sides of the board and components. I have aging industrial electronics in my shop that get weird in summer when humidity peaks. I have successfully eliminated -some- of the weirdness by sealing out moisture as per the above method. dan k >> Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 18:58:48 -0400 >> From: e...@dc9.tzo.com >> To: emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net >> Subject: [Emc-users] Using a PC in extended temperature ranges and mobile application >> >> >> Hi Guys.. >> >> I am considering using EMC2 (or part of it) in a mobile application that >> defines the term "rugged". >> >> The application itself is pretty simple so I am not worried about the >> software. Re: [Emc-users] Seeking ideas how to sync an AC generator to 60 HZ average.
I have researched this subject over the last 10+ years. And I know a couple people that have tried limited phases of this experiment as well. My conclusion is, if do not have enough hobbies and too much free time, adding 'home shop power station' to the list might be fun. But there is no savings to be had over grid power. Even if you use the waste heat from the generator in winter, plan on being much less efficient in your work or shop activities, as your generating system will demand time and attention. I have a waste oil heater in the shop, been here for 10 years. I finally got tired of all the time it wastes (waste oil is NOT free heat) and am installing a gas furnace in it's place.
