Happy New Year everyone.
Yes I noticed the list was quiet.
I decided to put work with the tool setter/probe stuff on hold due to
frustration. I'm rereading
https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/29187-work-with-probe
and now on page 37 to try and get a handle on what I'm doing wrong or what I
need to do for my situation.

It doesn't help that GIT allows multiple branches to develop each with
different changes, some desired, some not. I finally figured out I was using
the Probe_V2 master which has the support for the Linux 2.8 and up.

I have the macros etc working so that on each tool change the tool is measured
with the tool setter.
I've yet to get working anything that uses existing values in the tool table
and if the length is 0 then go use the setter.

A Jolly good idea John, that will get most of us to actually make and
use a permanent one. Up till now, all of my use has been only in the
individual .ngc file on the GO704 wheere I sometimes setup a production
line at various places on the table.

Usually using a piece of pcb for a tool contact, but that's difficult on
the 6040's new spindle, the bearings appear to be ceramic as the spindle
is insulated so I'm going to have to deploy a spindle stop and ground
first.

There is a dust flange above the er20 of the 6040 that I could hit with
a leaf spring or a slab of pcb but have not grokked the exact howto yet.
Room is very precious there. Ideas welcomed. The usual 4 bearing water
cooled 24k 1.5 horse motor.

Most of the issue is I've been unable to get my head around the values in the tool
table. Sometimes the actual length of the tool >from the spindle works, other
times it's an odd value determined from probing.

You've company in that boat.

For now I've put it aside while I play with my new tool; a 12" box pan brake which bought on
sale but has, shall we say: "Issues". >To be expected for something as cheap as it
was. I'm about 1/3rd of the way through modeling it in AlibreCAD so I can figure out >how to
modify it to fix it.

So tool setter, tool probe, probe screen etc on hold for a while yet.
John

Subject: [Emc-users] Happy new year and also checking if the list is alive

Hi everybody!

First of all happy new year to all :)

I'm wondering if there's low activity or if there's a problem with the list
or my subscription because it's been several days without messages and
seems strange.

Thank you and stay well!

Happy New Year to you, Leonardo, and to everyone else on the list.
Like you, I haven't seen much activity so I assumed everyone was either
eating or had escaped to the workshop.
I had regular messages up until 23rd December, then one on 28th December
but no activity after that until your email.

Marcus

Same here Marcus, except I did get one from Sam S. on the 23rd. but
between the 18th and now Leonard's question, that is it. Big hole in
traffic.

Happy and better New Year everybody.

Cheers, Gene Heskett.
