Hi Thaddeus,

I second Chris on using Kicad. I just started with it a few weeks ago and
it's very good. Easy to use, lots of libraries and it's really easy to edit
or make new components in case you don't find what you want.

Gene;

I wired up the G0704 sensor to my Mesa 7i76/5i25 combo and use it with
Andy's Lincurve stuff for speed feedback. And full speed control via the
same combo.

I'll be mentioning some of this at a seminar at the upcoming CNC Workshop.

Some stuff on my blog - the Canadian name for the G0704 is KC20VS, so
search for that.

Blog is cnc-for-model-engineers.blogspot.com - ask questions. (gotta run -

Is exactly what came with the machine. The wiring diagram is in it twice,
but nothing on the PCB's.

>From the sounds of it, its a scr or triac control. More evidence of that
in the fact that the reversing switch is wired to the motor.

The rpms display is driven by a single slot interrupter from a disk with
round holes drilled into it on the top of the spindle. Eg, no room for
a disk like I put on the lathe, but the top cover of the gearbox could
be machined away to do something similar, but would need me to design a
new pcb to mount the slot interrupters. That means their speed display
will not work but since we can do that with linuxcnc, thats no biggie.

Yet TBD whether I rip out their speed control and put in one of the Pico
servo amps. I am extremely pleased with how it worked on a similar sized
motor on my toy lathe. It sure simplifies the reversal as that servo
amp handles that with no relays to putz with.

The motor kit came Friday, and thats the first Nema 34 motor I'v seen, it
will go on the z axis. Buying the package like that sure makes it nice.
Looks like all I'll have to do is mount the stuff and wire it up.
Its 2 each 470oz/in nema 23's with 8mm shafts, a 1600oz/in nema34 with a
12mm shaft, 2 ea DM542's and a 42 volt PSU for the nema23's, a DM860 and
a 60 volt psu for the nema34, and a bare bones but all opto, breakout
board. On fleabay for a tad under $400.

I just got to get me back into working condition. I pulled something
loose in my game knee and back getting it into position in the garage.

Thanks Belli Button.

Re: [Emc-users] schematics

2010-07-23 Thread Thomas Powderly
Stuart didnt say what he expected/wanted to find
but today i spent with one system installing AcadE and another running GEDA

I envision drawing a schematic showing the relational connections,
like mains swx to fuses to filters to distribution to safety relays to
servo drives
nad int he establising the physical things to buy and mount and wrire together
i expect the software to get me a BOM and wiring list ( netlist )

then
i expect to do a physical layout, breaking apart cabinets and cables between
i'd like to have a 3Dish layout and find how much wire is needed and
what the cables would look like
and how the routing would look

i'd like the 3D cables to be flattened into nailboard schemes

I'd like it free and really easy to use :)

haha, took all day to find how tro do sub-sheets on GEDA

(hint: ignore the web tutors, find the damn examples
and write the necessary text files fixing where sub sheets are located)

AcadE is likely closer to the above wishlist but it costs a load and
isnt all the above unless you add Inventor

btw if you goto gEDA plan on creating a load of symbols
i dont see how to do physical layout, but have guess the phys layout
is akin to PCB
(meaning plan on creating a load of footprints :)

TomP

Hi Stuart,

If it is permissible to offer a Windows based solution I would suggest
EasyCAD. It really is a very easy to use 2D drafting program that I have
used for years for mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, etc. Low
cost ($295.00) and very good support. If I was sitting next to you showing
you how to use it you would be reasonably proficient in 15 - 30 minutes.
Without help it might take you 45 - 60 minutes to be up and running. It
really is easy. Here is the link: http://www.fastcad.com/infoec7.php. Like
most programs a free demo is available for download.

My thanks to the replies that provided the Linux based options. I am
interested in trying them and comparing them to the Windows based products I
currently use.

Have a good day,

Jim

I like http://www.gpleda.org/index.html Its free, very active
developers. They are much like the EMC2 developers in the respect there
are always updates forth coming.
of course you need to be a linux user as its not written for Windows.
Seems to me Ubuntu has a direct update for gEDA, though I use OpenSuSE
11.3 mostly and it does not.

Guys,

I use Eagle and would highly recommend it. They have a very active forum
with 1000's of archived messages. The free version will do PCB's up to 80 mm
X 100 mm with no other functional limitations.

I did find the learning curve to be pretty steep especially for creating
libraries and devices. Otherwise, OUTSTANDING!.

Stuart

I havent found what I'd like yet
Meaning, something that lays out cables and nailboards so cables can be duped
Layout of cable harnesses showing connectors...
Panel layouts showing cable paths
There's youtube flvs of similar using Inventor/AcadElectrical and with
Solidworks
Those are very close. SW likely is the gui-est

I'm going thru the ACAD-E startup guide now.
i hope to use qemu & XP

the eagle/geda/qelectrotech are good 2D tools
QElectrotech looks more cable/panel based than the others (need BOM
and palletes of contactors/fuses/term blox...)

I'd look thru the demos to see what mates with your vision

[Emc-users] schematics

2010-07-22 Thread Stuart Stevenson
Gentlemen,
I would like to find software to create/document schematics for my
machines. I would like to have symbols and features to place where needed.
Is there anything out there?
Sorry if this has been addressed before.
Free is good but it doesn't have to be free - just not many thousands of
dollars.
thanks
Stuart
