If you haven't already, you could try gevas2: http://www.enlightenment.org/viewvc/misc/gevas2/ There's also an article about it by the author available on Linux Journal (from 2005): http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8213 Though the code is a bit old, it still seems to work ok.
