Re: [e-users] Re: Fonts offset from where they should be
Another problem I've noticed that I guess is related is that the fonts in gsview have become really big and blocky -- there's a screenshot of this problem at http://gataki.co.uk/gsview.jpg This is certainly a less irritating problem than the offset text, but I'd guess solving one would solve the other. It's really frustrating to not be able to read the text on epplets -- for the first time since I started using enlightenment a couple of years ago, I'm seriously considering changing to a different window manager. Can anyone offer any help with this at all... please?! Many thanks, Al --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? [e-users] Fonts offset from where they should be
Hi all, I came in to work a couple of days ago and logged onto my laptop (which, from the previous night had been on for about 3 days, so I'm not sure what's changed) and all the of the text in the window titles and epplets in X have become offset slightly (moved down) from where they should be. This makes all the epplet text virtually unreadable and just looks wrong in the window titles. There's a screenshot I've just taken here: http://gataki.co.uk/offset_text.jpg There's also an old one (unfortunately without any windows visible, but you can see the epplets at least) showing what it should look like here: http://gataki.co.uk/screenshot.jpg Can anyone throw any light on where I should be looking in trying to solve this? I've checked the urpmi logs and there's nothing that seems relevant that has been installed; the only thing I've installed from source was E-Keyboard.epplet, but this doesn't actually run on startup, so it seems strange that it would cause a problem. I've also recently modified the xorg.conf to change the keyboard layout to gb,ru rather than just gb, but I've restarted the X server several times since then without problems. Many thanks in advance, Al P.S. Re: [e-users] Bug: (forw) [Scribus 0000673]: Borders of tools are messed up on startup]
Thus spake A. S. Budden: Thus spake Kim Woelders: [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, I had exactly the same problem (and the problem hasn't change with E16.7). When Scribus starts, some dialogs window appears, but they shouldn't exist for scribus (i.e. in Tools menu, they are all unchecked) nor for E (they don't appear in the 'wl' command of eesh). These windows are thus unmanaged by E. If you check these windows in the 'Tools menu, nothing happens. If you uncheck them, they disappear. Then, all is OK. If you check again these windows, they appear, managed with menuborder. A quick hack is that when you close scribus, all tools windows must be open, so that the next time you start scribus, they are marked as opened, and appear managed. If you closed them, the next time, they are marked as closed, but are still opened, unmanaged. I don't know what happen, but it looks like these windows shouldn't appear... but does. There seem to be a few apps that have windows which escape management by E, MonoDevelop being the only other one I know of. I think it is a bug in scribus. It sends a bogus Unmap event after a dialog window is (requested to be) mapped but before it has actually been mapped. The attached patch seems to make scribus behave, although I think there are some other program logic bugs (why try to hide the window immediately after it is mapped?). However, I think E probably should be fixed to ignore these bogus events. I've passed this information (and the patch) along to the scribus people. The response, in case you're interested: cbradney 05-18-04 10:55 Ok.. well.. actually.. this is surprising and welcome news if this fixes it. Thanks heaps. Ill assign to Franz and he can check it out. cbradney 05-18-04 10:56 Franz, please check out these patches. [e-users] Bug: (forw) [Scribus 0000673]: Borders of tools are messed up on startup]
Dear all, I just filed this bug with the people at scribus and they seem fairly sure it's a bug with enlightenment, so I thought I ought to post this here. If anyone wants any more details or just to tell me that I should have searched the web more thoroughly (sorry, our proxy server's down at the mo), please do not hesitate to do so. However, they cannot be closed by clicking on a close icon (there isn't one). [e-users] Pager Windows
Hi there, I have a bit of a problem with the pager windows. For some reason (and for quite some time now), the borders around the pager windows have been looking a bit odd. I assumed that I'd done something stupid like delete the relevant bitmap files, but I just decided to increase the number of desktops that I have from 6 to 9 and lo and behold, the new pagers that were created look correct. I have tried going down to only one desktop and then back up to 9 again, but it makes no difference. I have put a screenshot here: http://tinyurl.com/2gmuo Can anyone offer any help with this please? Thus spake Hall Stevenson: At 04:09 AM 11/24/2003, A. S. Budden wrote: The second, and more fundamental one is that when I start enlightenment, it's quite random what epplets I see. For example, when I logged on this morning, my desktop looked like this: snip rpm -q Epplets: Epplets-0.5-11mdk I would first suggest removing the epplet package you've currently got installed and install the RPM that's available from E's website. epplets have a configuration option that helps deal with multiplying epplets, i.e. extra instances. It's possible that Mandrake didn't enable this option when they built it. Then again, I can't say that the E-supplied epplet RPMs were built with that option either I recompiled it from the source (with a fair amount of editing the configure script to stop GL from getting upset). Seems to have solved the problem. Many thanks for your help. In case anyone else wants to know, the option in question is --disable-auto-respawn. This stops the epplets from reloading automatically, so you put them in your .xsession/.xinitrc and robert's your father's brother. Re: [e-users] Epplet Nightmares
Thus spake Hall Stevenson: [snip] Ahhh, it seems you left out a key thing from your original post, that is, assuming you're running E as your window manager. If so, you do NOT launch epplets from your .xsession or .xinitrc file. epplets will automatically be set up to re-start with E each time WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO DO ANYTHING. I didn't have epplets loading from .xsession or .xinitrc before, only since I did the --disable-auto-respawn. The reason for this is that since recompiling, none of the epplets appeared at all. To clarify, the set up I had BEFORE (which didn't work) was with GDM as the login manager and the following .xinitrc: #!/bin/sh enlightenment pid=$! /usr/local/bin/sonypid /dev/null 21 Eterm --foreground-color white --background-color black --geometry 150x48+95+85 --title Main Terminal --resize-gravity sudo /usr/bin/tpconfig --tapmode=0 xset m 8 wait $pid (The pid thing is just for historical problems with the fluxbox pager -- never got round to removing it when I changed to enlightenment). Now it is as follows: #!/bin/sh enlightenment pid=$! /usr/local/bin/sonypid /dev/null 21 Eterm --foreground-color white --background-color black --geometry 150x48+95+85 --title Main Terminal --resize-gravity E-Clock.epplet E-MoonClock.epplet E-Biff.epplet E-Biff.epplet E-Cpu.epplet E-NetFlame.epplet E-ScreenSave.epplet sudo /usr/bin/tpconfig --tapmode=0 xset m 8 wait $pid The reason for this --disable-auto-respawn, or one of the reasons, was because Gnome users were having both Gnome *and* E remember what apps were to be re-started, hence people getting multiple instances of apps. Why ?? Because Gnome restarts them and E restarts them. Let us know how soon your problem comes back. :-) You can count on it! [e-users] E-Term home end
Dear Gurus, I've just installed Mandrake 9.2 (instead of Redhat 9) and transferred my home directory across. I use the enlightenment window manager and one large E-Term for virtually everything that I do. However, I have a problem with the home and end keys on my keyboard. When I'm using vim among many other things, they don't do what I'd expect. In vim they change the case of the current character after a short delay. They work fine at the bash prompt, but that is it. I do not have this problem if I use an xterm or rxvt window, so I assume there is something configured wrong for E-Term. I also have the problem that the backspace key doesn't work properly when programs like less are running, or if I'm typing commands in before a command has finished. For example, if I run 'man Eterm' and type /something and then hit backspace, I get '/something^H' displayed on the screen. Again, this problem does not occur in xterm. Can anyone offer any suggestions with this please? Many thanks in advance, Al --- This SF. [e-users] Toggle Skip Window List not being remembered
Hi there, I have just started using enlightenment. On startup, a number of epplets are run (a clock for example). I do not want these to be in the list of applications that I cycle through with alt-tab. I can achieve this by alt-right-clicking on them and selecting Toggle Skip Window Lists. However, the next time I log on, this behaviour has been forgotten. I have tried alt-right-clicking and choosing Remember... and then selecting Window List Skip, but this does not seem to work. I sometimes find that one or two of the 7 epplets that load remember it the next time I log on, but even that isn't consistent. Also, if I log out and log in AGAIN, the behaviour is completely forgotten. Can anyone offer any help with this please?
