The WM shouldn't make any difference to Gdesklets. The application

I had always used virtual desktops in e16 and no multiple desktops at

I hope e17 will have virtual desktops, so I can use it the same way.
I use Virtual Desktops to expand my desktop horizonally and Multiple

the scroll rate is proportional to the number in the spinner box before

No. You must have imlib-devel (imlib2-devel won't do).

Hmmm. I'm pretty darn sure I have imlib2-1.1.0. I re-downloaded from

Is there a config option to fnlib that I should run to tell it to use
imlib2-config rather than imlib1? It seems to be looking for imlib-1
rather than imlib2. Is this correct?

You could also consider simply installing the RH9 rpm's from SourceForge.

For a variety of reasons, I like to build this sort of package in its
own prefix (e.g. /usr/local/enlightenment) and contain everything
under there.
Thanks,

I use this script, where ^[ is control escape and ^G is control G:

I have this as an alias in my .cshrc:

You didn't mention if you were using the Nvidia drivers or the
standard XFree Geforce drivers.

I had lots of problems with memory leakage with the Nvidia drivers on
a GForce2 and also an original Gforce card. If I ran the box for more
than a couple of hours and let Xscreensaver run some of the OpenGL
hacks it seemed to lock up after only a couple of hours. This was a
hard Xserver freeze. I could usually recover if I could log in over
the network and kill X. But it was a pain.

My explanation for this behavior would be that enlightenmenet was
pushing on the Graphics card harder than Gnome ever has. But that
isn't really a satisfying explanation because IIRC, e.16.5 doesn't
really use any OpenGL acceleration.

So I don't really know how to explain your situation. However, I
would be suspicious of the Nvidia drivers (not of the company, of
course; they have decided that they can't give away the specs for
their card and can't open the source for their drivers so they are in
a real bind). I think it is really hard to get the nvidia drivers to
work well on Linux. Not sure, of course.

I eventually decided I wasn't doing anything requiring 3d capabilities
and bought a Matrox. Stable as a rock too.

Best of luck. Keep playing with things and try the latest NV drivers
and see if that helps.

Not a bad question and this is certainly the place to ask.

For E.16.5 the only way to get Icons on the desktop (without using
GNOME or KDE, that is), is to put them in an icon box. Unfortunatly,
as far as I can tell, the only things that can go in the icon box
are iconified windows (or you could call them minimized windows).

I'm sure things will be different in e.17 (which is still in heavy
development). There, e will have its own file manager so "real"
icons should be a snap.

Let me know if you need more information on how to use Icon boxes.

I think E-Biff works but only does POP3. I've started using gkrellm
lately and it does both (will monitor multiple accounts) and it also
has some other nifty plugings.

But for your purposes E-Biff might be just the ticket. It comes in
the standard dist, AFAIR.

You can do very well in speculation where land or anything to do with dirt
is concerned.

Oops, that's right. Now I remember why I stopped using it. It only
did local mail. In fact, I now remember that I modified a perl tk
'biff' thingy to use the E-Biff pixmaps because they were less cheasy
than the the ones it shipped with.

Sorry for the red herring.

I noticed that gkrellm failed in that way too. Probably a patch would
be welcomed but ... who has the time, desire, etc.

BTW, did you try right clicking on wmbiff with the windows key
pressed? I rememberd that you have to use that key to change the size
of the Icon box and that might work with the wm applets.

Of course if you just want wmbiff relaunch each time you login, you
could exec it from your .Xsession file. Do the wm applets take a
-geom argument (can't remember how WM worked with that stuff. It's
been so long ...)?

Can't think of any other options that don't involve programming
something up yourself.

hi..
I have a WM dockapp that I'd like to use as an E epplet..
I can copy the binary to /usr/local/enlightenment/bin and rename it to name.epplet, so now I can start it as an epplet.
My problem is that it's neither saved and re-started each time I start E, nor the position is remembered.
I'm sure there's some step I'm missing in this - what is it?

[snip]

As far as I know, enlightenment treats WM dock apps as regular
windows without borders and other decorations. To get it to remeber
to restart and its position, etc, hold the key and right click
to bring up the menu. Then select stick/unstick to make the window
sticky and select rememeber to deal with the remember settings.

I don't believe it is necessary to rename the WM applet and put it in
/usr/local/enlightenment bin.

Just out of curiosity, which applet are you using? After the epplets
came out, I stopped using any of the WM applets.

Sorry, I probably got E-Disk from epplet-base-0.5.tar.gz.

I am running? I am running version 0.16.4 of Enlightenment, Gnome 1.4

different version of E-Disk was included in the rpm?

If you just want to kill E-Disk and it isn't putting up a close box,
you can kill the process with the kill command.

Just look for its process number from the ps command. If E keeps
starting it, quit out of E and edit the .esession file in your
.enlightenment directory.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that
you do it.
