Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Investigate why so many people wrongly subscribe to this list (was: RE: Quantum ESR)

2017-12-20 Thread Schuetz, Zach
While we’re making adjustments, the section on “How do I configure Firefox for
my organization?” should definitely link to the actual community-supported
answer to that question, namely
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Enterprise_deployment. The
“Enterprise Wiki” doesn’t appear to contain any info of immediate use to
sysadmins.

I say this needs stronger wording:

We encourage those who are deploying Firefox ESR to sign up for the Mozilla
Enterprise mailing list available in English, French and German. This list is a
great place to discuss deploying Firefox with other community members. Regular
communications regarding product updates and support are also sent on the list
by various Mozilla teams.
I would add the words ...deploying Firefox ESR _in large installations_...
Thanks for updating this page.

The new page is now live ...

Interestingly, the release schedule appears to suggest the next ESR
release will be 60 not 59 ...

[Mozilla Enterprise] "Certificate chain incomplete" in 45.1.0

2016-06-28 Thread Schuetz, Zach
Hi folks,

One of our web applications is reachable from most browsers, including current
ESR 45.2.0. However, 45.1.0 (currently deployed in a few places) gives an SSL
error, saying the security chain is incomplete. Nothing jumps out at me from
the main or security release notes as to why there should be any difference.

Now, the obvious answer is to tweak the security (already working with our
server team) and update Firefox everywhere, but why did this happen in the
first place, and is there any way for me to know if it's likely to happen again?

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Configuration File For Mac

2016-03-02 Thread Schuetz, Zach
Hi George,

It's best to start with the instructions at
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Enterprise_deployment, paying
particular attention to the note on "Mac directory change" near the bottom.
(There's probably a clearer way to incorporate that into the page, but I
haven't found the right wording yet - I invite anyone else to do so!)

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Active Directory Security Templates for Firefox ESR

2016-01-27 Thread Schuetz, Zach
Hi Andreas,

There are no official admx templates for Firefox. It requires setting up a
configuration file, using the following documentation:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Enterprise_deployment
Many people use Mike Kaply’s CCK extension to streamline this process.

There are also third-party products like PolicyPak or Frontmotion but I don’t
have any experience with them.

Sincerely,

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Quick question on enterprise implementation

2015-12-17 Thread Schuetz, Zach
The biggest challenge is that Firefox can’t natively be configured with GP. So
any time you start using third-party add-ons, that introduces complications and
potential security vulnerabilities if they’re not maintained. It can also cause
problems when the way you have been configuring something stops working with a
new release and there isn’t a great replacement. Significant changes are only
supposed to happen with a new ESR (so about every ten months), but Mozilla
hasn’t always honored that promise in the past, particularly if your org is
dependent on plugins like Java. Also, the ESR point releases address “major”
security issues, but not necessarily minor ones. It’s a balance between
consistency and security.

Brian,
I want to use AD to manage the Firefox implementation through GP. Currently we
only use IE and want to expand. I want to understand the challenges in managing
it from security POV.

I read about using the ESR release and to use Firefox ADM. We normally use Lan
Desk to create a package and push the updates.

Any information on challenges and security vulnerabilities in these method of
control is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Do you mind providing some details about your environment? Are you using System
Center Configuration Manager, or Active Directory, or some other tool as your
deployment system? Do you plan to use InstallShield in any capacity?

Thanks!
