Cities Share £40 Million Grant To Increase Use Of Electric Cars The UK Government has confirmed which cities/towns share its £40 million grant to implement plans that encourage the use of electric cars. London receives £13 million, Nottingham £6 million, Bristol £7 million, and Milton Keynes £9 million via the Go Ultra-Low City Scheme. The winners were chosen based on their suggested initiatives. In London, for example, street lamps in more than a dozen roads in Hackney will soon incorporate charge points. In Milton Keynes, the Electric Vehicle Enterprise Centre will provide advice and short term vehicle loans. Furthermore, 20,000 of the town's parking spaces will become free for electric vehicle owners. Free Residential Parking In Bristol For Electric Cars Drivers in Bristol will receive free residential parking for ultra-low emission vehicles, access to carpool lanes and more infrastructure to facilitate charging. A scheme to encourage the short term lease of electric cars – so that motorists understand their capabilities prior to purchase – also looks set to come to fruition. In Nottingham, electric car drivers will get charging points, discounted parking and access to bus lanes on key routes. Such initiatives could further increase ultra low emission car sales that – in 2015 - eclipsed the total of 2010 - 2014. 2015 best sellers were the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Nissan LEAF and BMW i3. “Exciting” Ideas To Increase Use Of Electric Vehicles British Government Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “These Go Ultra Low Cities have proposed exciting, innovative, ideas that will encourage drivers to choose an electric car. I want to see thousands more greener vehicles on our roads and I am proud to back this ambition with £40 million to help the UK become international pioneers of emission cutting technology”. McLoughlin added: “The UK is a world leader in the uptake of low emission vehicles, and our long-term economic plan is investing £600 million by 2020 to improve air quality, create jobs and achieve our goal of every new car and van in the UK being ultra low emission (by 2040). Go Ultra Low is a “1-stop hub for everything you need to know about ultra low emission vehicles”, its website says. Its Head, Poppy Welch, added: “We’re excited to see the innovative ideas put forward by each of the winning Go Ultra Low Cities become reality over the coming months. The £40 million investment by government - combined with funds from each winning area - will transform the roads for residents in and around the 4 Go Ultra Low Cities. With thousands more plug-in cars set to be sold, cutting running costs for motorists and helping the environment, this investment will help to put the UK at the forefront of the global ultra low emissions race.” [© motoring.co.uk] http://www.profi-forex.us/news/entry4000007460.html Electric Vehicles Threaten Oil Exporters Sat, 13 Feb 2016 Electric vehicles are getting more and more popular worldwide. Experts predict that electric vehicles may win up to 30% as a share in the global market of automobiles by 2030. With that being said, this is a real long-term threat to oil-exporting countries heavily dependent on their oil exports. Just a couple of years ago, electrocars used to be something exotic. Today, these electricity-driven vehicles are something common in the streets all around the globe.
