Now Taipei-based startup Xing Mobility unveils its new electric hypercar today after having compared the specs with Tesla’s new electric vehicle. Xing Mobility originally unveiled a working prototype of its hypercar ‘MISS R’ right after Tesla’s unveiling of the Tesla Semi, which also happened to be the unveiling of the next-gen Roadster. They released the following specs and compared them to Tesla’s new Roadster : 0-100 km/h in 1.8 seconds (Roadster: 2.0 seconds), 0-200 km/h in 5.1 seconds (Roadster: unreleased but 0 to 161 km/h in 4.2 seconds) and a max speed of over 270km/h (Roadster: over 400 km/h). They didn’t disclose the range, while Tesla announced over 620 miles of range (~1,000 km) for the new Roadster ... Now they say that they are unveiling the full vehicle, which they claim is the “world’s first electric supercar with on-road and off-road capabilities.” They are sticking to the original specs that they unveiled last year even though the vehicle still doesn’t have an interior. Xing also hasn’t demonstrated the insane acceleration that they are claiming but they did release some footage of that “off-road” capability: They claim that they achieved this kind of performance with a 1-Megawatt (1,341hp) powertrain equipped with 4 independent electric motors powered by a battery pack of their own design. It’s made of 98 “modular blocks” with each 43 cells, which are submerging directly in “3M™ Novec™ 7200 Engineered Fluid”. They claim that is results in “one of the highest power density EV battery packs on the market.” The battery pack system is also swappable. The company describes it: “In displaying the vehicle elevated above its 4116-cell, 98-module battery pack, the company also plan to showcase its extremely fast battery swap technology that sees the entire battery enclosure exchanged within 5 minutes. As well as tackling the challenge of range and charging restraints, the vehicle is designed for exceptional driving experiences previously unthinkable in gasoline vehicles. Fully race-enabled, its battery-swap technology and dual-personality setup is primed for track sprints, hill climbs, and endurance races alike.” While they have been talking about bringing ‘MISS R’ to limited production with 20 units to be built in 2019 with a price starting at $1 million USD, Xing Mobility says that the powertrain is the real product and they want to leverage the development for other vehicles – starting with commercial vehicles. XING Mobility’s Co-founder and CTO Azizi Tucker said: “The commercial vehicle market is primed for a conversion to electric drivetrains due to functional needs, increasing emissions requirements and public noise reduction. However, this market is currently extremely underserved with many electric vehicle technology manufacturers focusing only on passenger vehicles”. It’s why ‘MISS R’ will be showcased at the AutoTronics Taipei [.tw] show alongside a 3.5 ton electric transit vehicle referred to internally by the team as “Mr T”. They haven’t released any specs about the truck other than saying that its powertrain consists of “6,300 lithium-ion 18650 cells in 150 reconfigurable and immersive-cooled battery modules and equipped with a 350V high power density induction motor.” The company wants to use its same “LEGO-like” battery pack technology to electrify several kinds of vehicles. Electrek’s Take It’s interesting how quickly other companies are using the new Tesla Roadster as a benchmark when unveiling their own hypercar. It looks like the Roadster has the new numbers to beat. But in this case, it doesn’t look like it will actually by a competitor. Instead, they are mainly focusing on their battery pack technology, which kind of reminds me of Kreisel Electric in Austria. Unfortunately, we don’t know enough about their technology to say if they truly have something special here, but a 1-Megawatt (1,341hp) powertrain in such a small vehicle is certainly impressive.
