[EVDL] Electron Automotive - Any experiences?

2016-09-08 Thread Michael Kadie via EV
I have a friend that bought a Chevy Volt with front end damage. He replace the
charger and charger connector and fixed the front end damage. The Chevy dealer
says its throwing codes and 'no one will touch it'.
Any recommendations?
Any opinions about Electron Automotive? We are in LA

Thanks,

What are the codes exactly? some are specific, others tend to be systematic.
If systematic, replacing a damaged component can correct several codes. If
specific, then it favors the dealers sensor replacement model.

Hi Michael,
Yep, a lot of manufacturers will not touch a vehicle that is salvage if
they can avoid it, remember Otmar buying a crashed Model S?
So, I typically count on being on my own when doing this - make sure you
have the service docs and the means to read and reset codes from the
car.
Often enough it is simply an airbag controller telling that it has
detected a crash or it is detecting a missing sensor or squib
or anything else that you may have missed, some vehicles even detect
issues such as an unexpected brake pressure (if the vehicle was powered
while you were replacing brake pads and it detected that you pushed the
old pads back in, to make space for the new pads, sending oil back to
the brake controller, it will throw and remember a code, as I noticed on
my 2005 Prius).
Simple codes like brake or missing sensor input is usually solved by
making sure everything is in normal operational state and then resetting
the controller. Hard codes like an Airbag controller detecting a
collision are not user resettable, you either have to replace the
controller and hope that the VIN of the car is not stored in the
controller, or you have to open the controller, read the memory, wipe
the hard code string from the dump and write it back into memory and
then hope it will have forgotten the previous event. There are "airbag
controller reset services" on Ebay, charging around $50 for this.
But it simply all starts with having a code reading that connects to the
OBD bus and shows what the car is complaining about, so you have an idea
if you can solve this yourself or not.

Hope this helps,
