[Evolution] 0.15 comments

2001-10-19 Thread Ben FrantzDale

I have a few comments. Overall things are coming along great!

First: bug 10925. This should be easy to fix and not fixing it could
result in people believing that Evolution has trashed their mail.

Second: Somewhere along the line Search->show all became search->clear.
I personally thought "show all" was a particularly clear lable and that
it isn't clear exactly what "clear" would do.

I'm seeing something similar on both my RH7.1 boxes. If I shut down Evo,
and then go to open it again, it sys "can't find database componets" and
quits. At this point I have to do a "killev" and then kill all instances
of oaf to get it to start back up. Its been like this for a week.

[Evolution] From field with replies

2001-10-19 Thread John Weber

Hi,

What determines which identity gets put in the From: field when replying
to a message? I notice that sometimes it's not my default account id.
Right now it looks like any reply (reply, reply to all, reply to list)
picks a different ID in my account list rather than the default when I'm
replying to any Ximian list (I filter these into a folder), but uses my
default ID for other replies. Did evolution somehow remember what my
default was when I created the folder these messages are saved in? How
can I change it so it uses my new default ID? I did change the default
since creating the folder.

New messages seem to use the default OK.

Thanks, John

Yeah, there were so many of these that I more or less started ignoring
them once it became evident what the situation was. If people want to go

What I have noticed is that is appears based on the address the message
was sent to. If I reply to mails to the address I use here, this
address is used. If it came into one of my other two accounts, the
matching one is chosen as the from.

Yes, this is correct. If someone sends mail to your [EMAIL PROTECTED]
address, your reply will have that in the From:, even if your default
account is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

New messages always use your default identity, unless otherwise

Actually, the signs work in the opposite way you expect here.

You really wanted "Etc/GMT-1", for an hour ahead of UTC.
But of course that won't take daylight-savings time into account,
so "Europe/Copenhagen" is best.

Re: [Evolution] From field with replies

2001-10-19 Thread John Weber

OK. This info helps me narrow down the behavior I think is strange. If I
reply to a message where the To: field is one of my identities in the
mail settings, then the From: will match that. What I notice is that if
I'm replying and the To: is not one of my identities (e.g. the To: field
is this mailing list), then it's not using my default ID but a different
one that happens to be first in the list of 4 accounts, default is last.
This account is also disabled. So it seems to me to make more sense to
use the default ID in this case instead of another one on the list. If
it does use the first on the list, there should be an easy way of
reordering them. Does this mean that default account only applies to new
messages? What other attributes (if any) does the 'default' account have
except for the From: on new messages?

Next question. Does the status 'enabled' or 'disabled' just turn on or
off receiving mail or does it affect other things?

Thanks, John

One reason why "show all" is NOT a good term is its conflict with hidden
messages (the semantic of which I find stupid in itself, but that's
another question). If I use this feature and go into a folder with
hidden messages (whose count is also shown) I would expect a "show all"
to do what it says: unhide the hidden messages.

[Evolution] Curiousity???

2001-10-19 Thread Chris Holly

Is it my imagination, or is there a bug in gtkhtml? Or is it in the
preview function itself?
I just upgraded RPMwise to the 10.18.15.19 version of 16.99, and I am
getting some overlap on text, I think only on email addresses in the
body of the text. Am I the only one?
By the way, this is the only real complaint I can say that I have ever
had about Evo. It is the best, and is an awesome piece of work. I am
sure this is a bug that will be fixed by and by, I just am checking if
it is only me for my sanity.

[Evolution] Evolution CVS is STILL majorly broken

2001-10-19 Thread dan . hensley

Evolution has been severely broken for me since last weekend (I'm sending
this from Spruce). I updated from CVS tonight, did a killev, oaf-slay,
kill gconfd, and it still goes into 100% CPU mode in
evolution-executive-summary. So I rebooted, and Evolution came up. So I
thought I'd move my evolution directory out of the way and start fresh to
clear any cruft (late last week, I noticed that Evo wanted to copy some new
files into my directory, after which it crashed the next several times I
tried to start it--Evo is still very bad at handling new files).

When I tried that, I went through the First Time druid. I specifically
unchecked all of the import options. After clicking Finish I noticed a
Pine import dialog show up. Then Evo went into 100% CPU mode, with the
splash screen frozen with nothing displayed. Now rebooting doesn't fix the
problem, and setting the environment variable to bypass the splash screen
doesn't help either. What else can I do to get back up and running?

Another thing I noticed is that Evo doesn't seem to store my Mail Settings
in the evolution directory any more? During one of my iterations I entered
some bogus stuff in the First Time druid. Now even when I move by backup
evolution directory into the right place, my Mail Setting are still the
bogus entry instead of my correct 4 accounts.

On a side note, I'm very curious about the major breakage. Did the
person/people who committed the code that broke everything so severely know
this was going to happen? Surely the most cursory testing before
committing would have revealed the problems, since it seems to have
affected so many people. It seems rather strange that such major breakage
would happen so close to a Release Candidate.

Here's a backtrace of evolution-executive-summary. I ^C in gdb when I go
into 100% CPU mode and then do 'bt' to get this. It seems like there's a
problem in gtkhtml. By the way, I submitted this a week ago in bugzilla
(12648).

Re: [Evolution] Evolution CVS is STILL majorly broken

2001-10-19 Thread Dan Hensley

To add to this, I still can't switch to Calendar or Tasks. As soon as I
click on the folder, that component goes into 100% CPU and I have to do
a killev. It wouldn't surprise me if all of this breakage is due to the
same problem (in gtkhtml?). Let me know what I need to do to help track
this down.

Re: [Evolution] Evolution CVS is STILL majorly broken

2001-10-19 Thread Miles Lane

Hmm. You must be using anoncvs, because the bugs you mention
have all been fixed in the main CVS tree. Also, I believe that
the latest Snapshot release has fixes for these problems.
If you can try the latest snapshot, I think you might have
better results. Unfortunately, it sounds like the anoncvs
repository is delaying the main CVS reprository by more than
one day.

Best wishes,

Miles

Umm.. Just one thing. Now it reports 318 unread mail in my Sent-box (Not
on the IMAP-server, but the local one). But they are all "read"..
I don't know if this is related to the IMAP thing at all, just thought
you should know :)
