this does not work for me. when I select a message from the message
list by clicking on it, the message list should have the focus.
when I then use the scrollbar in the preview pane, the message
scrolls by half a page only. at the moment I can not get it to
scroll a whole page. maybe, when I switch on my computer tomorrow,
it will scroll a whole page all the time, and I can not get it
to scroll a half page. :-(

or maybe the preview pane gets the focus, when I click into the
scrollbar? but then I never could scroll by a whole page - really
weired for me...

That explains it. I saw this in a diff that was posted in December 2000:

I guess it never made it into the official release. Is there another way
of setting the path/options for sendmail?

[Evolution] POP, SSH port-forwarding, and deletes

2002-04-15 Thread Ian Forde

Hi all - I'm new to the list, though I've been using Evolution for well
over a year now. I'm having a problem using Evolution with a POP
account in that it won't delete any messages. Here's the setup:

My machine: Linux Laptop (RH7.2,
evolution1.0.3.99-various-snapshots-usually-the-latest-though-this-problem-has-persisted)

I don't control the mailserver, and it's running Qpopper 4.0.3, with no
APOP support. Thus, I port-forward over an ssh connection:

ssh -2 -L 4510:mailhost:25 -L 4500:mailhost:110 me@mailhost

So I point Evolution at that mailhost:4500 for receiving mail and
mailhost:4510 for sending mail. I've turned on the "Leave messages on
server" option, since unchecking that one sucks the mail off of the
server and leaves me with no mail the when I'm done. (Sometimes I
travel without my laptop and like to use pine.)

So when I "empty trash" and "expunge" the messages leave my "Local
Folders" but still stay on the server anyway. I've sniffed the
connection and watched message downloads, but at no time has Evolution
performed a "message delete" operation.

Could the fact that evo sees this account as a "local folder" be
relevant here? And just to be sure... Mozilla mail works fine in this
regard, so it's not the server. (Evo is a better, nicer-looking email
client, supports gpg/pgp, and doesn't die when my browser crashes, which
is why I'm using it...)

Any help here would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I have a solution, but it's not quite fixed yet I belive (bugzilla
15975).

What I do is use vFolders. for example for work I create a normal Folder
for all my clients, I then use vFolders for each individual client, in
the vFolder setup I have at least two rules.

one is sender contains "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and the other is recipients
contains "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and then I include the sent folder in the
vFolder sources.

This works except that every time I restart evolution the sent mails are
not showing in the vFolders. To make them show I have to do a bogus
edit for each vfolder. I do TOOLS->Vitrual Folder Editor and select the
required vFolder, press the edit button, on the dialog that pops up I
just press the ok button then the vfolder will show the sent mails.

It's a pain in the ass but obviously it will one day be fixed by the
evolution guys.

create a vfolder that has all local folders as it's source and status
unread. Go to the vfolder and select all and then mark as read.

I have one that holds all unread mail older than 2 weeks, mostly from
mailing lists I am not currently keeping up with,

Where did you read that such an environmental variable exists? It
doesn't.

---

I need to specify "/usr/sbin/sendmail -i -U -t". I set the
CAMEL_SENDMAIL_PATH environment variable in bash and start Evolution
like
this:

 [user@host dir]$ export CAMEL_SENDMAIL_PATH='/usr/sbin/sendmail -i -U

 [user@host dir]$ evolution

But Evolution still uses the "-f" option when calling sendmail. Am I
missing something?

What did you import them from? Perhaps the importer has bug with it.

FWIW, its possible to write a simple script to do this 'offline' anyway.

Because it is not always the same folder. I mainly do this to keep track
of threaded discussions I might have. I currently have filters on
incoming email (evolution goes into it's own folder). So it would be
nice if my reply to an message from the Evolution folder (like this one)
is filed in the same Evolution folder.

This is property was available under Netscape/Mozilla. I found it very
useful when involved in long multi-message/multi-threaded discussions.

I was using it as a feature, to have a choice between the scroll

I could be wrong (and if so, I'm sure someone will correct me), but it
seems unlikely to me that this is possible since, for example, one can
send mail without having *any* "current folder," at least in the mail
sense (by, for example, pressing Shift-Control-M from the Calendar).

You could at least partially simulate this behavior by setting
appropriate outgoing filter rules, however; for example, you can filter
mail to mailing lists based on destination address relatively easily...

This is a PITA, and it's less preferable to a simple BCC: header, but
here's what I do.

Create an outgoing filter with the criteria "Sender contains spencer"
(or something like that), and the actions "Move to folder INBOX". It
doesn't actually send the message through your MTA (like BCC: would), so
you don't get confirmation that your MTA is working, but at least it
automatically drops the message in your inbox.

If the focus is in the message list, it scrolls by full pages, if it's
