Just Evolution. I had an early version of Connector installed at one
point (lucy), but I removed it a while ago when it was causing other
problems.

I have not tried a complete uninstall-reinstall of Evolution, and I've
updated through many of the incremental versions since pre-1.0. Would
it make sense to try removing Evo completely using Red Carpet and then
re-installing it?

Thanks

Re: [Evolution] Calendar Reminder Problem

2003-01-03 Thread Bob Haddleton

I have this same problem on 1.2.1, RH 7.3, and I don't have to exit Evo
and restart for it to happen. Every time I switch from the Mail view to
the Calendar view and then back again, or add/modify an appointment, I
get all of the day's expired reminders repeated. It seems like anything
that invokes the calendar component triggers the alarm mechanisms to
fire again for the last 24 hours.

I don't believe that the POP3 protocol will allow you to do filtering
without downloading the whole message.

It has been discussed on this list several times, but in Evo 1.2 you can
set up a filter to pipe the message to a program (like SpamAssassin -
www.apamassassin.org) and then process the message based on the return
code from the program. However this requires downloading the entire
message and sending it to the program to be filtered.

See the list archives for details on setting up the filter to use
SpamAssassin - it works really well.

I don't have any problem with the alarms firing reliably, but when I
open and/or close the Calendar window, I usually get the last day's
worth of already-fired alarm notifications repeated again. It's pretty
strange, and can be annoying when I had a lot of alarms in one day.

I haven't had time to look into it much.

I haven't tried it for POP3, but I assume you just configure it with the
same mailserver, login and password that you gave to Evolution and it
will watch that account for new mail.

There is a Mailcheck applet that you can add to your Gnome panel (both
Gnome1 and 2) and you can configure it to check a
mailspool/maildir/POP3/IMAP account and play a sound/display a graphic
when new mail arrives.

Right-click on the panel and on RH7.3 it's under Applets->Network, in
Gnome2 it's under Add to Panel -> Internet -> Inbox Monitor

I've seen cases before when wombat has crashed, but it has always told
me that it crashed and asked if I want to submit a bug report. That
hasn't happened recently.

If I killev and start over, it seems to work, though it is still slow.

I assume the size of the calendar.ics file affects performance - what
would be considered a large calendar.ics file that would degrade
performance of the tool?

[Evolution] Calendar performance

2002-11-22 Thread Bob Haddleton
Evolution 1.2, RH 7.3

I'm having trouble with the calendar component getting stuck, or taking
a long time, when refreshing the screen after changing the displayed
timeframe (month view, scrolling to the next week or two). It says
"Searching..." in the status bar and never paints the appointment
information on the screen.

Possibly related to this is the fact that whenever I do a calendar
operation (add an appointment, or "Open in New Window" the calendar) I
get all of the pop-up reminders displayed again for the appointments
from the past few days.

My calendar.ics file is about 1.6MB, so I don't know whether that is
considered a big file or not. I would really like to find (or write) a
utility that would go in an prune old entries out of the file to make it
smaller and hopefully help the performance. If anyone knows of such a
utility, please let me know.

Thanks

If your email uses IMAP, and you have shell access to the mail server,
the best way to do it is to use procmail to invoke SpamAssassin
(http://www.spamassassin.org/) on your incoming mail.

If you are using POP, or don't have access to the IMAP server, you can
set up a filter to invoke /usr/bin/spamassassin -e on your incoming mail
messages and check the return code. If the return code from
spamassassin is non-zero, then the action should be to move the message
into a Spam folder.

The filter would look something like:

If Criterion
"Pipe Message to Shell Command" "/usr/bin/spamassassin -e" "Does Not
Return" "0"

Then Action
"Move to Folder" "Spam"

Hope this helps...

Yup - we're using Netscape Directory Server. They plan to change it out
for a better server, but not for several months.

> $ ldapsearch -h -x -b -s
> '(|(displayName=had*)(mail=had*)(|(cn=had*)(sn=had*))(fileAs=had*))' dn
> and see if that works.

If I do this query as written, I get:

version: 2

#
# filter:
(|(displayName=had*)(mail=had*)(|(cn=had*)(sn=had*))(fileAs=had*))
# requesting: dn
#

# 1hadeleon, people, lucent.com
dn: uid=1hadeleon, ou=people, o=lucent.com

# search result
search: 2
result: 11 Administrative limit exceeded

# numResponses: 2
# numEntries: 1

If I remove the "fileAs" criteria, I get:

version: 2

#
# filter: (|(displayName=had*)(mail=had*)(|(cn=had*)(sn=had*)))
# requesting: dn
#

# 1hadeleon, people, lucent.com
dn: uid=1hadeleon, ou=people, o=lucent.com

# bobh, people, lucent.com
dn: uid=bobh, ou=people, o=lucent.com

 .
.
(truncated by me)
 .
.
# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 23
# numEntries: 22

So it looks like the fileAs is what is causing the problem.

Would a different (more modern) LDAP server make a difference?

[Evolution] Can't tab out of Cc/Bcc fields in Compose window (sometimes)

2002-11-01 Thread Bob Haddleton
Using the latest CVS snapshot (the RC hasn't show up yet when I look in
Red Carpet)

I've noticed that at times I cannot "tab" out of the Cc and Bcc fields
in the Compose window, even when the fields are blank. Other times it
works just fine.

When I addressed this message, I typed "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in the To:
field, hit tab 3 times to go to the Subject field, but got stuck in the
"Cc:" field and could not advance out of it. The same thing has also
happened in the Bcc field.

Now, however, if I put my cursor back in the To field and hit tab 3
times, it works fine.

Is there possibly an interaction with wombat trying to do address
lookups?

Something else that may be related - backspace seems to stop working at
times. If I enter an address in the Cc field (for example), and the
address is in my contacts list, and then change my mind and try to
backspace over it, I can only backspace a few characters before the
cursor disappears from the field and no more keystrokes are accepted.
If I put the cursor back in the field I can backspace one more character
before it happens again. This is also an intermittent problem and does
not always happen.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you just say:

I have an Evolution filter set up as follows:

Criteria:

Pipe Message to Shell Command "/usr/bin/spamassassin -e" "does not
return" "0"

Actions:

Move to Folder "SpamFolder"
Stop Processing

This seems to do the job very well. Note that it does NOT rewrite the
message headers the way procmail does, so looking for the X-Spam-Flag
after calling spamassassin will not work.

The only problem is I can't figure out how to have it delete the
messages from my POP3 account automatically. I have the account set to
"Leave messages on server" so my family can get to the mail from
Windows, but I can't get Evolution to delete the spam from the server
(using the Delete action) after it has been detected by spamassassin.
