[Evolution] multilingual support

2001-12-05 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hi,

first congratulations for Version 1.0!

However, I still find multilingual support in evolution unsatisfactory,
which wouldn't be astonishing for older applications, but definitely
doesn't fit to a potential killer app like evolution (at least compared
to mozilla and star office 6.0). If I want to read (and of course write)
Japanese mails I have to restart evolution with Japanese locale! Just
selecting the correct codeset doesn't even show Japanese correctly. If I
then want to write a mail in German (with umlauts) or sync my palm (with
German OS) I again have to restart evolution. Is this a bug or a
feature? I hope the first and not the latter. And I strongly hope that
it is not a problem of the underlying concept.

Re: [Evolution] japanese input

2001-11-28 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Thank you, it works. I just had to add export XMODIFIERS=@im=kinput2" to
your script. Without Japanese menus and text were ok, but kinput still
didn't work. But now everything ist ok.

By the way I don't start kinut in the script because it's already
running

Thanks again

As I now found out, it's not a problem of synchronization but a problem of the Pilot
Link configuration program in control center/Advanced. When I open "control
center/Advanced/Pilot Link", change the configuration of MyPilot from "Use conduit
settings" to "Syncronize", click OK but don't close the "Settings" window, sync works
fine. As soon as I close the window the synchronization is blocked. Strange isn't it?
Somehow the Pilot Link settings aren't saved when I close the Settings window, and the
settings jump back to a standard configuration which doesn't work. At least that's my
conclusion as a user.

So for the moment I know what I have to do to get my Palm synchronized. But still the
question is open what's going wrong.

[Evolution] Transfer of data from one installation of evolution to another

2001-11-28 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hello,

I've just installed evolution for the first time. So the problems I have are still on
a very basic level. The first one: how can I share data between two installations of
evolution on different computers. I just tried to copy the content of the
~/evolution/Tasks folder from one computer to another. But on the second one the
changes of the first one didn't appear. When I opend evolution everything was the same
as before I had copied the data of the other computer. More strange: the files in
~/evolution/Tasks seem to be restored to the status before. (Perhaps important: I had
imported the data from my palm)

So what's going on in the background. Which filed do I have to copy, if I want to
transfer data from one computer to another?

A second question: Can I open evolution without the email modul? (It might sound
strange, but I prefer to use sylpheed)

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately it doesn't work. I did oaf-slay and killev. Still the same
problem. I think there are at least two problems: kinput (the Japanese
input method) doesn't work. And, independent from that, Japanese fonts
are not configured correctly. Where can I do that? In gnome control
center I don't find anything about fonts, nor in evolution. By the way I
also can't read Japanese mail, although choosing the correct coding.
That seems to be a font configuration problem. But it's not the problem
that I don't have the fonts available! In sylpheed, mozilla and a lot of
other applications display and input of Japanese text works fine.

[Evolution] japanese input

2001-11-26 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hi,

How can I get japanese input working for mails in evolution? Usually I
start an application with a script like this one (for sylpheed):

export LANG=ja_JP
export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP
export XMODIFIERS="@im=kinput2"
export LANGUAGE=en_US
sylpheed

Then I have english menus and japanese input with kinput2 is working.
But with evolution the menus are still german and japanese input doesn't
work.

Im using evolution RC 2, gnome-control-center 1.5.9 on icewm-gnome (but
without gnome or gnome-panel running).

No, what I tried to explain was the configuration in "controll center/Advanced/Pilot
Link". Also "controll center/Advanced/Pilot Coduits" is configured. What I actually do
is just push the HotSync button while evolution is open. That' how it should work and
it worked well yesterday. My point is, that it worked only with the Pilot Link
settings configured as "Syncronize" (and not as "Use conduit settings"), and that this
configuration now isn't saved. It always changes back to "Use conduit settings".

Sorry if I'm unclear. My English is too bad and moreover I don't really understand
what's going on between "gnome-pilot", "pilot-link", "conduits" and "evolution". By
the way pilot-xfer on the command line works, for example for backup.

[Evolution] sync stopped working

2001-11-20 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hi,

last Friday sync worked fine with the new RC2 release. Today it doesn't work at all.
My Palm says that it can't connect to the computer. What I found out: Even on Friday
(a far as I remember) sync worked only, if I choose "Syncronize" in the Pilot-Link
settings of the control center. It didn't work with "Use conduit settings", which I
find a little bit weird. Today, after sync had failed, I checked Pilot-Link settings
and found out that it had changed to "use conduit settings" automatically. But even
after changing back to "Syncronize" it didn't work. Somewhere I read that one has to
restart the daemon by right clicking on the Pilot-Link icon. This doesn't work here.
Right clicking shows no reaction. So I rebooted. Again the settings had automatically
changed from "Syncronize" to "Use conduit settings" and sync didn't work.

So what can I do?

Thanks in advance

[Evolution] sync ignores categories

2001-11-18 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hallo,

sync with the new RC2 version of evolution worked generally fine. But "categories" are
ignored in both directions.

That leads to a question: How should sync work, if you have two or more categories in
one entry? Palm only supports one category at a time. So I suppose that only the
first category should be transferred.

[Evolution] Transfer of data

2001-11-14 Thread Gerhard Schuck

Hello,

which are the relevant files if I want to transfer lets say the ToDo Database from one
computer to another? I tried just to copy ~/evolution/local/Tasks/tasks.ics but
evolution doesn't accept this file. It just replaces the file automatically with the
original one. So there must be a backup mechanism in the background which I don't
understand. I didn't find anything in the documentation.

By the way, is this the right place to ask such questions? I asked the same question
in [EMAIL PROTECTED] but got no answer there.
