Okay, now that comment just got my attention. I'm running Red Hat 7.2
and Evolution 1.0.8. How do I get the window size and location to stick.
Every time I crank up Evolution, it's jammed into the corner, like you
say.

[Evolution] Character Encoding

2002-10-23 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky

How can I get "Character Encoding" (View | Character Encoding) to stick in Evolution?

I'm having problems seeing both imbedded and linked graphics in e-mails I receive.

I have set my Mail options to download all graphics automatically if mail is HTML. So, that's not the problem.

But, if when I open the e-mail and View | Character Encoding to change to any character encoding set, the graphic pops right up. But, then I exit Evolution, come back in and nothing sticks.

Help?

Thanks!

-Greg

Re: [Evolution] Character Encoding

2002-10-23 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky

No, it's not just taking a while to load images. I can leave it up forever and they don't load (not imbedded, not html links).

I'm using Evolution under KDE, if that would make any difference.

Thanks for the info on character sets. At least I know it's not that.

But, then, why is it when I open a mail with an imbedded graphic, if I do View | Character Encoding and choose anything (!), that it pops! right up??? That's the weird thing. Are you saying that the guys sending me these mails have something set wrong on their machines?

Thanks!

This has nothing at all to do with image loading at all, so I'm not sure
what the problem is. Are you sure it's just not taking a while to load
the images?

[Evolution] Cannot sync under new Kernel.

2002-10-28 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky
When I updated my Kernel, my sync capability with my Palm device
disappeared. When I boot under the old Kernel, I can sync no problem.

Here is my info:

I use a serial cradle (/dev/ttyS0) and have the permission to this
device set to 777.

I use Evolution 1.0.8 (updated to the beta and had some bad experiences,
so I went back to the version that was stable for me).

Evolution syncs fine under Kernel 2.4.7-10, but NOT AT ALL under
2.4.18-17-7x.

I run Red Hat 7.2. I recently did an up2date and that's where I got my
new Kernel. I also encountered problems under up2date downloading and
installing the following files:
  evolution 1.0.8-1.ximian.1
  gnome-pilot 0.1.65-1.ximian.2
  gnome-pilot conduits 0.9.1.ximian.1
  gnome-pilot conduits 1.4.7-1.ximian.1

The error message I receive under up2dates is that libpisock.so.4 is not
installed, but it is (in /usr/lib). I even did a rpm --force to get a
current version on my machine. Same error message.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here? What's the problem syncing under
the new kernel?

Re: [Evolution] Cannot sync under new Kernel.

2002-10-28 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky

I've thought about that, but the file those updated conduits etc. want (the dependency) is libpisock.so.4. I have that and it's installed. Why won't up2date recognize it? If I need the files listed below, where do I get them if up2date won't work because it won't find my lib file?

Or, could someone do a file search and tell me where that file is on their system (if you have a system that syncs fine)? My file is in /usr/lib. Maybe up2date is looking elsewhere for it??

Given that you had installation problems related to all of the packages
that actually perform the pilot syncing, i would probably start looking
there.

The other alternative is that the driver for the required sync device
(e.g. serial or usb) isn't installed/setup, but that is probably less
likely.

[Evolution] lib dependency

2002-10-30 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky
When I try to update my pilot links using Red Carpet, I get a dependency
message regarding libpisock.so.4. For this reason I cannot update my
pilot conduits, etc., and my Palm device won't sync.

PROBLEM: I have libpisock.so.4 installed (up-to-date) on my system. It's
sitting happily in /usr/lib.

Why won't Red Carpet find it? see it? recognize it?

[Evolution] JPEGs from a Mac OS X

2002-11-08 Thread Gregory Alan Kedrovsky
My Evolution 1.0.8 won't receive a binary file (jpeg picture) sent from
a Mac OS X (using UUEncoding?).

My Dad just made the switch from a WinTel machine to a blowtorch of a
Mac (it's really sweet). He's still climbing the learning curve, so
we've hit a hitch we can't get over. He attaches a jpeg picture (he's a
huge railfan, likes trains) to an e-mail and sends it to me.

It comes in and I can't do ANYthing with it. I see the attachment. I
cannot view it in The GIMP, Electric Eyes... nothing. I save it to disk,
and it saves, but when I try to pull it up, I get "Unknown." But, it's a
standard JPEG.

Seems to me it's a coding config problem. Does anyone know what might be
the problem? He says he can send the same pic to his WinTel machine (via
Juno, another dial-up he has) and it comes through fine in WinDoze.

Thanks!

Tell him he'll be doing you a real favor by sending it as a .zip file
(do Macs have zip?) gzip -d or gunzip it.

Really?? Is that the best answer to the problem?? You sound like you've
bumped into this one before. And, there's no other fix for it? Is there
a reason it happens?

Tell him that, come the spring, you'll mow the lawn for him.

I told him. But, I bet he doesn't hold his breath. We live just about 1
hemisphere apart. :-)

THANKS!
