[Evolution] Error when Sending

2002-11-30 Thread Michael A. Peters
I use a .Mac mail account.

Sometimes when their server is having trouble, I get an authentication
error : http://12.233.82.128/~mpeters/images/evolution_error.png

It asks me to re-enter the password, and stops checking until I do.
The problem is that I subscribe to a LOT of e-mail lists - and if I'm
gone for a week (sometimes even a weekend if the lists are busy) my 15mb
of pop can get filled.

If I have my box running an popping every half hour while I am gone, my
mail box doesn't fill. But this breaks if there is this error.

Is there any way to configure evolution to cancel its pop attempt if it
gets this error, and just try again at the next scheduled pop?

My e-mail password doesn't change, evolution should be able to have a
setting to ignore that error and just try again later.

Anyone know how to do this?

[Evolution] Spell Check, Wrap

2002-11-29 Thread Michael A. Peters
When I upgraded to Evolution 1.12 it seems spell check broke.
This is RH 8.0 - upgraded through Red Carpet.

What do I need to be able to enable it?

-=-
Second-

How do I set up word wrap?
I want to make sure my message text is wrapped, so that it won't be
annoying to pine etc. users.

I can't find a preference for this.

[Evolution] RH8 + 1.2 = crash

2002-11-27 Thread Michael A. Peters
I am running RH8 and I installed the 1.2 evolution via Red Carpet.
Twice now right after sending a message - I get notification that
whatever controls the Inbox has crashed, and that I need to restart
evolution in order to use that component.

It's only happened twice - and do a lot of mail - so its not an
everytime thing.

But it never happened in 1.0.8

Is there any way for me to get a dump or something else that would be
useful in figuring out the problem?

[Evolution] Managing Lists

2002-11-23 Thread Michael A. Peters
I have a contact list from people in my Sunday School class.
We don't use a list server, a speadsheet of names and e-mail addresses
is simply updated and sent to everyone.

I created contacts for everyone in the lists and created a category that
all these people are part of.

I then created a list contact and had the evolution contact manager sort
by category and dragged all the contacts onto the list.

Works very well - except it seems every few weeks someone changes their
e-mail.

When I change the e-mail address of the contact, though - the contact
list does not get auto updated - so I have to find the contact in that
list, delete the old one, and then drag the person onto it again.

Is there a better way to do this?
I would like to be able to just change the primary e-mail in the
person's contact profile and have any lists that person is on
auto-updated.

What happens is the list starts out alphabetical, not difficult to deal
with when I need to delete a e-mail from the list - but when I then drag
their contact with the updated e-mail onto the list, it gets put at the
bottom. New people added to the list also appear at bottom.

The order in the list then becomes non alphabetical over time, which
adds to the problem of having to update more than one component.

I *really* would like to be able to just update a contact and have any
lists that contact is on automagically updated.

I have a list for this Sunday School class, a list for personal, a list
for family, etc. and some people are on more than one contact list.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: [Evolution] Managing Lists

2002-11-23 Thread Michael A. Peters
Click the Contacts button.
Next to the search menu is another pull down menu - one of the options
is Category is. Select that - and you should be able to pick from any
of the categories which will then be in the next menu.

This is with Ximian 1.0.8 that ships with Red Hat 8 - I haven't used any
other versions of Ximian.

How did you get that to sort by category? I would love to be able to
group by category, but for some reason, that is not an option in any of
 the drop-down lists.

 Thanx in advance,

Re: [Evolution] JPEGs from a Mac OS X

2002-11-09 Thread Michael A. Peters
I can try sending myself a jpeg from my OS X box and see if my evolution
has any issues with it (Red Hat Linux).

What happens when you scp said jpeg from his OS X box to your linux box?

My Dad just made the switch from a WinTel machine to a blowtorch of a
Mac (it's really sweet). He's still climbing the learning curve, so
we've hit a hitch we can't get over. He attaches a jpeg picture (he's a
huge railfan, likes trains) to an e-mail and sends it to me.

It comes in and I can't do ANYthing with it. I see the attachment. I
cannot view it in The GIMP, Electric Eyes... nothing. I save it to disk,
and it saves, but when I try to pull it up, I get Unknown. But, it's a
 standard JPEG.

Seems to me it's a coding config problem. Does anyone know what might be
the problem? He says he can send the same pic to his WinTel machine (via
Juno, another dial-up he has) and it comes through fine in WinDoze.

 Thanks!

Re: [Evolution] mac os x

2002-10-23 Thread Michael A. Peters
I do have one comment-
Smart move looking for something other than Mail.app

Mail.app chokes on me after about 3 days worth of my high volume mail.
I kept trying it every time (looking for something better than Sylpheed
which I had been using on Linux) they updated it- but it always choked
after a few days and became unusable.

I get a lot of mail.

But now I've found evolution (RH8) which hasn't choked yet- and has a
better interface than _any_ mail client I've ever used :)

// I do wish that when updating an e-mail address of a contact, that the
e-mail address in a list that contact has been added to would also get
updated- but that's minor

have any information if evo runs on os x when you install an x-server,
the darwin-base-archives and use the darwin-ports oder fink? is there a

[Evolution] vFolder and Categories

2002-10-23 Thread Michael A. Peters
I want to create a vFolder where the search criteria looks at the from
address (or sender or whatever) and checks to see if that e-mail address
belongs to any contact in the category blahdedah.

Is that possible?
I can't seem to figure out how.
