users so they didn't announce anything until they had what they wanted.
I'm not saying that's what they were actually doing but that's certainly
  the way it seems.

I can see how it might seem that way. A big component of the timing was
not wanting to announce it before we could start demoing it and giving
out evaluation copies to potential customers. We weren't trying to
trick anyone, but we didn't want to announce it and then ask people who
wanted to buy it to wait 6 months before they could see a demo :-).

I see that you are talking about only Exchange 2000. Any chance that
there will be back-porting to the Exchange 5.5 platform, for those of us
in a situation where we can't get upgraded to 2000 in a short timeframe?

Just curious.

As mentioned in the press release, we will be releasing a connector for
5.5 later on. I think it says the first half of 2002 but I wouldn't
 swear to that.

Thanks Dan. Sorry for not reading it closely enough.

thats it. There is also a Epplet for E w/ the same features.

That's great. Is there anyway to get Evolution to give me a sound when
new mail has arrived?

[Evolution] Intended behavior?

2001-11-15 Thread Mike Strock

I'm hesitant to post anything that resembles an error because it may be
intended behavior, but here goes anyway:

Evolution Open (.58 build) with folders on the left, message pane on the
right.

Double click on a message (only message left in the message pane, hide
deleted messages turned on). Delete the message. It leaves the message
open, but does delete it from the list. If there is more than one
message in the current folder, Evolution takes you to the next message.

Shouldn't it close the message (if it is the final message left in the
folder)?

Yes, that is correct behavior - you can change the smtp server you use,

I would think that since you are creating a new account (which may or
may not have knowledge of the other account) that you would default to
NONE, and allow the user to enter their own preference, whether it be
the SMTP server from the default account, or something else.

Just my opinion though. It works the way it is now. :)

Re: [Evolution] Changing Quotation String?

No, it's not possible. I suppose we could add the feature but I
personally am not sure I like the idea. If people change the prefix,
then it becomes impossible (not hard, but impossible) to colourize
and/or do anything cool with quoted text in general.

Nonsense. A fixed quotation string is only needed if one is too lazy to
implement the solution correctly. Take a look at Balsa, for example.
Balsa lets you specify whatever you'd like as a quotation string, and
also lets you specify a regular expression to match against to determine
whether a line is quoted or not.

Besides, simply refusing to allow people to select their own quote
string in Evolution doesn't change the quote strings that Evolution has
to deal with (since *lots* of folks already use mailers other than
Evolution which allow them to select their own quote string).

Now come on. There are many things that would be nice to have in
Evolution 1.0. As someone who has worked with teams developing software
(released software), there will always be compromises in 1.0 .

You get 1.0 out the door so people fall in love with it, and enhance it
in future versions. Calling people lazy because they didn't implement
your pet feature is poor, in my opinion.

Put it on the list for 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, and let's focus on problems that
need to be fixed for 1.0 (actual bugs, I mean).

[Evolution] Interesting problem - RC1 Build Evolution

2001-11-10 Thread Mike Strock

Send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with an HTML page, it returns it in
an email (facilitates reading pages offline).

I sent an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a first line of

http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/3887/1

It returns the email, but the message can't be read in Evolution.

This is true both with 'Always load images off the net' or 'Never load
images off the net'.

Doesn't necessarily rely upon the above webpage, but that is the example
page I was trying to read.

Bug or limitation?

[Evolution] Buglets in RC1 build (+cvs.2001.11.02.08.57) I've seen

2001-11-02 Thread Mike Strock

o Right click on a message, say 'Add Sender to Address Book' - Doesn't
add anything to the address book or Contacts

o File...Print shows 'lpr' but doesn't show any of the queue names I've
set up using PrintTool. Shouldn't it, for consistency sake? For new
users, this would be confusing I believe. I want to print to my queue
LJ4, but all that is shown is 'lpr'. If I print to the 'lpr', it *does*
print to the LJ4 queue, but it isn't intuitive.

o View...Hide deleted messages is selected. Have a message open in a
separate window. Chose Delete. It clears the message screen, but
doesn't bring up the next message. If the 'Hide Deleted' isn't
selected, the next message DOES come up in the separate window. Again,
consistency.

Thanks guys. I *really* like Evolution. I appreciate all the hard work
you've all put into this tool. It is *very* useful.
