Re: [Evolution] Evolution 2.6.2 Formatting toolbar

2006-08-28 Thread Li Yuan
Hi Greg,

I have tried this on Evolution 2.6.2 but can not reproduce your problem.
When the focus is in the subject line, press tab, the first widget in
the toolbar gets the focus, press tab again, the focus gets into the
message pane. Then press shift+tab, the last widget in the toolbar gets
the focus, shift+tab again, the focus get back into the subject line.
When the focus is on toolbar, you can move focus between widgets on it
by pressing "left" or "right".
Please tell me if it performs differently on you system.

My wife recently had someone in her company set her up with a Mailstreet
account, so that they could share calendars, contacts, etc.

Is it possible to connect in to some extent, using Evolution, so that I can
share the calendar and other items?

[Evolution] Evo moving mail on its own?

2006-08-28 Thread Des Dougan
I have an odd problem that came up this morning. A client of mine has a
problem with space on his server and can't resolve it for a while. To
assist, I migrated the majority of his mail to my server, and stored it
in my home directory in a folder tree like this:

/home/e-smith/files/users/des/home/clientname/Maildir

My own mail is stored in /home/e-smith/files/users/des/Maildir.

When I started Evo this morning at work, it was taking ages to check new
mail and I noticed it was scanning my client's mail (although the
folders are not subscribed to, it was scanning them for new mail).

Something has moved the mail from where I put it into my Maildir tree,
as I now see folders like this:

.home.clientname.Maildir..Projects

Did Evo do this?

Any ideas gratefully accepted...

Thanks,

Des

[Evolution] Evolution 2.6 for Mac OSX

2006-08-28 Thread Sankar P
Hello all,

Evolution 2.6 released on March for Mac OSX had a few problems with
Exchange account setup.

So an updated release is made and the binaries are available at :

http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/Special:Downloads/evolution/builds/Evolution~~~2.6~~~for~~~Mac~~~OS~~~X~~~/evolution-2.6.pkg.tar.bz2tar.bz2

Downloading and extracting the above archive will give an installer.
Once you install using this installer, there will be a launch_evolution
that will be created under /opt/gnome-2.14/bin . Use this to launch
Evolution.

Once installed there will be a README that will be copied
to /opt/gnome-2.14/bin directory. You are STRONGLY advised to read it if
you want to configure an exchange account.

The release is an unsupported release. You are using at your own risk.
However, feel free to mail me if you find any issues with this release.
I will try to address them in the next release.

[Evolution] problems when ~/.evolution symbolically linked to directory on fat32

2006-08-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I try to move from Sylpheed email client to Evolution.

When I migrate my emails to Evolution using the default storage location
(~/.evolution) it works great.

However, I want to store all of the data (email, calender, etc) on a different
partition by making a symbolic link between the .evolution directory and target
directory; the target directory is on a FAT32 partition. Here the trouble
starts.

After I imported all the Sylpheed emails (MH directory) into a temporary
account, I cannot move the emails between these accounts. The complaint is that
it timed out creating a lock file.

Any suggestions?

Do I have to tell (and can I tell to) Evolution that the target is on FAT32?

I am using Debian Linux Sarge, with Evolution 2.0

Greetings Rob

[Evolution] UI-Suggestion / Folder-View

2006-08-28 Thread Thomas Voß
Hi,

as a long-time linux-user and cheerleader permanently advertising Linux
/ GNOME to my friends and family, I'm maintaining a huge archive of
statements given by new GNOME users regarding the overall UI-experience.
Most of the 'contributors' are former MacOSX-users and therefore
accustomed to Apple.Mail.

So, here is the essence of their ideas/concerns regarding Evolution:

[1.] Folder View
The folder view presents a hierarchical view of mailboxes(local and
remote) and the folders contained within these mailboxes to the user. In
general this resembles the view on a (local and/or remote) filesystem.
Why not offer the same options like e.g. nautilus regarding the display
of this hierarchy, i.e.:

[1.1] Default Icon View - Just presenting the icons representing the
individual folders (tagged with their name and the number of unread
messages enclosed in parentheses) of _one_ mailbox to the user and make
the different mailboxes accessible by a drop-down box. This view is
quite similar to the one provided by Apple.Mail.
[1.2] List View - This is the currently implemented one. All
mailboxes and the folders contained within are presented in a
customizable list view.
[1.3.] Detailed List View - An enhanced list view on mailboxes and
folders that displays information customizable by the user similar to
the information that is displayed by nautilus according to different
levels of zoom).

Once the user is familiar with file-browsing, she/he will be able to
read/manage her/his mail in quite the same way. Furthermore it might be
useful to make the folder-view collapsable as most (non-geek:-)) users
maintain just one inbox. Collapsing the view saves screen estate.

[2.] Message Pane
Most new users claim that the display is a little too narrow and that
they would like just a little more vertical space between individual
message headers. One interesting idea was the ability to display a
small popup on mouse-over containing the first few lines of a message
(of course it should be possible to switch this feature off).

Cheers,

Thomas

[Evolution] Evo sends two copies of email when using contact list

2006-08-28 Thread Arthur Smith
Hi all,

My co-workers keep complaining to me that they get two copies of my
emails. They say this started about a month ago, which is about when I
set up a contact list for them.

I only enter the contact list once, either in the to, cc, or bcc fields
(sometimes I expand the addresses inline). However, when i look in my
sent mail folder, I see them entered either in the cc AND bcc fields, or
TWICE in one of the fields.

Any idea if this is a bug or user error?

TIA,

Hmm, I just tried going to to without any problems (in fact it loaded

trying, right?

If you want to try their ip address instead, it came up as
129.187.150.92 for me.

Possibly, but I doubt it. I'm using 2.7, but I've seen this behavior on
2.6 as well. In addition, it doesn't happen ever on startup, it always
goes away after a restart, and it always takes days to happen. It feels
just like a plain old fd leak somewhere.

[Evolution] Evolution 2.6.2 Formatting toolbar

2006-08-28 Thread Greg Oliver
I just upgraded to 2.6.2 and gnome 2.14.2 - and a really annoying
feature was introduced.

Each time I create a new message, there is now a formatting toolbar
between the subject line and the message pane. I can tab twice to get
past it, but cannot shift-tab to get back above it to the subject line.
All of my emails are plain text and I really hate it, but do not want to
switch back to thunderbird.

I have been through every setting I can think of and am unable to get
rid of it. Is there a setting I am overlooking, or a compile option I
missed, or something? I hope so - please help!

Re: [Evolution] Question About Evo Odd Behavior

2006-08-28 Thread Scott Satkin
That is an issue with the way gmail works. They intentionally block an email
from being delivered to the client it is sent from. I *believe* this is to
combat the googlefs that many people are using now to get a free 2GB+ network
storage which can be mounted anywhere. If you want to receive your own emails,
you will have to send them out with a different program, try configuring your
outgoing messages to use sendmail.

These are message that have been marked as junk. They're not deleted.
Messages marked as junk show up in the junk folder, where you need to
delete (and expunge) them to get them to be actually deleted out of
their original location. It's done this way so you can catch messages
erroneously marked as junk, and they'll re-appear in their original
location.

This seems unlikely to me to have actually fixed the problem. For me,
merely restarting Evo gets it working again. The problem is
intermittent (I run my evo for days at a time), but it does happen
semi-regularly to me. My best guess is that Evo just leaks file
descriptors under some circumstance that is related to uptime, but not
necessarily directly related.
