Is this also the case when your account is exchange-based?

I have no direct knowledge of this, but I believe Evo tries to be
consistent and applies the IMAP model across the board. It also does it
with local (i.e. POP) mail.

The last time I connected Evolution to Exchange was with 2.12.
At that time it followed the Exchange model: deleted messages were
moved to the "Deleted Items" folder.

I haven't been able to get 2.22.3.1 to work with our Exchange server
except as an imap client so I can't say if that's still the case.

This is indeed how it works: it uses the Exchange model. As far as I
can see, expunge doesn't do anything at all to exchange accounts.
Unselecting "Hide Deleted Messages" doesn't change the contents of my
Inbox even though I have LOTS of messages I've deleted.

To clear out the "Deleted Items" folder I go to that folder, select the
messages I want to be "really deleted", and use "Delete" on them.

Is your server running Exchange 2007? I have no problems with Exchange
2003 and Evo 2.22.3.1.

OK, that's useful to know. It would also seem to imply that there could
be surprises in store for anyone who mixes IMAP-mode Exchange access
with the other thing (since they have two different models of what
"delete" means).

2003. I have to admit I didn't try very hard to get it configured.
imap suits me better in most respects.

Re: [Evolution] Does Evolution really need to be so terribly bad?

2008-09-02 Thread Axel
Moving a message and then putting it into the Trash Folder and the target
folder. It should not show in the trash folder, it confuses me and many people.
It also makes the trash not readable. I am getting a 100-200 emails a day and
keep 50%, but move them into different folders ... But if I have to look up a
deleted email, its really difficult to find in the trash.

(Offline Mode) Purging the trash in Outlook/Exchange works the same as in
Evolution. When you Purge Trash (or delete contents of the deleted items folder
in outlook), then only these are removed from the Server trash.

I think it would be good for the Evo team to look towards Kontact Kmail
Korganizer in KDE4.1 Ver, very nice. In effect, if you could < or they could >
use Evo Exchange data provider with Kontact, that would be just fantastic. No
one in the Kontact community is focused on Exchange/Ouotlook at all.

Personally, I would love to see both project merging. The Kontact team created
a very nice and intuitive front end, but the Evo team has just so much more
know how on the Exchange, but also imap connector side.

Food for thought!
