I actually have "mark read after N seconds" turned off, so I mark messages as read explicitly (Ctrl-K), i.e. I use "read" to mean "dealt with". I realize this isn't the way most people do it, but it does mean the kind of problem you mention doesn't arise (I can easily hit "," to back to the previous "unread" message). > On other occasions, I get zipping along flagging read messages (I could > easily have 50 at a time) and then realize I should have stopped to read > an earlier message rather than just breezing by, but I am unable to > backup easily or accurately. I would actually love to have an undo for deletes, similar to what you describe for "read". I occasionally delete something without intending to. Even though I can undelete it, I first need to find it ... BTW I requested this almost exactly four years ago. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271140. Hi; Just re-posing a question about a request for an enhancement. Am I alone in wanting this? I know there was a bug (request for enhancement) filed against Evolution requesting an undo key or Edit tab undo for flagging read/unread mail. It shouldn't be difficult. If it went back 5 -20 read flags it would save me from a lot of grief produced by accidentally flagging a message as being read when in fact I hadn't read it yet. -- Regards Bill Fedora 10, Gnome 2.24.3 Evo.2.24.3, Emacs 22.2.1 ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

Re: [Evolution] Enter password for the default keyring to unlock
Sort of. It wont bother you as much. You should only be prompted once when you first logon (when Evo data Server cranks up) and once for the first time Evo starts up after configuring the keyring (If you Always Allow, you wont see the 2nd prompt again). From then on Evo should look in the keyring for authentication and you shouldn't be prompted for a Password once you allow evolution access to the keyring. Hi group, Trying to use Evolution for E mail. I keep getting a window that says, "Enter password for the default keyring to unlock" Two buttonsdeny and ok and somewhere to put your password. What is this and how do I get rid of it? Also, it keeps asking me for my email password even though I've clicked the box that says, "Remember password" Any ideas? Re: [Evolution] Enter password for the default keyring to unlock
Phil The gnome-keyring is the password store for Evolution and just about any other Gnome based application. The password you are to put into the boxes is for securing the keyring and making it easier for applications to find passwords they need to make automated tasks quicker. If you don't want it, rebuild Evolution and use the configure option --disable-gnome-keyring j On Fri, 2009-02-06 at 20:52 +, Phil wrote: > Hi group, > > > Trying to use Evolution for E mail. > I keep getting a window that says, > > "Enter password for the default keyring to unlock" > > Two buttonsdeny and ok and somewhere to put your password. > > What is this and how do I get rid of it? > > > Also, it keeps asking me for my email password even though I've clicked > the box that says, "Remember password" > > Any ideas? > > Phil > > > > ___ > Evolution-list mailing list > Evolution-list@gnome.org > http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

I too do not run Nautilus unless I have to turn it on just for this purpose. (I will omit the obvious polemic on this topic). The information on mime types and applications that can process them is kept in .desktop files. These are found in many places, for example, on my system, here is a partial list: /usr/share/gnome/autostart /usr/share/gnome/wm-properties /usr/share/mimelnk/application /usr/share/xsessions /usr/share/applications /usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/lib/desktop/applications /usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/plugin/desktop /usr/local/share/applications $(HOME)/.config/autostart $(HOME)/.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers $(HOME)/.local/share/applications Looking in these files, one can see what the format is supposed to be and try to add new application--file type associations. I believe the appropriate places are /usr/share/applications for global associations and $(HOME)/.local/share/applications for associations for the one user. I have tried this a few times and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Using nautilus seems more reliable, but I could never figure out what I was doing wrong. That having been said, here is a question for somebody more knowledgeable than me: There are several file types on my system (.doc, .pdf) where the exact same application shows up two or three times on the evolution right-click menu. How can I get rid of these duplicates? I don't see any way to do this in nautilus. The file-type-to-application linkage applies to all the GNOME desktop apps, not just Evolution. Evolution basically just asks the desktop environment "Hey, I have an attachment with this file type. What can I open it with?" But you're right, it wouldn't hurt to mention that in the User Guide. Nautilus provides the graphical interface for managing those file type associations at the moment. Granted, it's a little too hidden. And other apps like Evolution ought to be able to reuse that window so you don't have to save first and go to Nautilus. It's a known issue. Moreover, GNOME should learn what .docx files are by default are so you don't have to screw around with any of this. I'll ping the appropriate people.
