Hi,
I tried to do it in 2.31.90 and it works as expected, Page Up/Down
scrolls the message preview, if it is focused. I cannot find a bug
number for it or a commit, but I recall seeing something like this.
Bye,
Milan

Hi,
external-editor plugin is part of 2.30 too, go to Edit->Plugins and try
to find it there. Though if it's an experimental plugin (which I do not
recall), then maybe your distro doesn't compile it.

Perhaps Rick is observing the behaviour that is driving me crazy ;-) If
you set focus on the message pane and then delete the message or move to
next message, the focus shifts from the message pane to the message
list. When you hit page down/up then, of course the undesirable happens.
I filed a comment against a bug:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620602

but didn't file a new bug (should I have done?), anyway there has been
no further comment there from the devs.

its just a simple compile-option away =).

Hi,
ah, I see, I understood Rick's message as "PageUp/Down doesn't work at
all, when message preview is focused", and yours is slightly different.
I see the request in your bug (Next/prev shortcuts should focus message
list), is against this PageUp/Down in preview panel, at least partly.

Maybe if it focuses message list only when not in the preview panel,
might work for you and for the bug #620602.

Not available here (Fedora 13), at least in the standard repos.

A quick google did show evolution-plugins-experimental as an Ubuntu
package. I think I'll just wait till its 'built-in', if its actually
happening on 2.32. Not too far away after all.

Experimental plugins are a set of half-baked, bit rotted or abandoned
plugins in our source tree that we would rather not support right now
but still show some potential. In this case I think the external-editor
plugin just needs a little UI love and some testing.

If any hackers in the audience are interested in giving it some polish,
talk to me. I don't think it's on any developer's agenda right now.

No good, because it will catch anything with the same subject (in fact
anything of which that subject is a substring). Subjects do not define
threads. It's also laborious.

I don't want to create a search folder every time I need to glance at
the context of a message. And again, it's laborious.

Note that we already have Ctrl-H (select thread) so it's not like Evo
doesn't have the machinery for this, however Ctrl-H only selects
messages which are visible according to the Show: criterion. In fact a
kludge solution would be to make Ctrl-H always select from the entire
current folder.

what's in git head for external-editor builds and works -- at least with
regard to using gvim -f. I'm editing this response now in gvim. Note -- I
don't have the plugin configured to start the external editor on every
compose -- I just invoke it from the composer's File menu when I need
vim's functionality in composing an email ( not really necessary for
this response, but I did want to make sure that the build I did this
morning didn't break it )
