Hi,
unfortunately not, RPC-over-HTTP is a protocol related to Samba, and
then OpenChange, and then finally evolution-mapi - it's not a proxy
related thing at all.

If I can suggest, if you've new-enough Exchange server (2007+), try to
switch to evolution-ews, which is actively developed, with compare of
evolution-mapi in a maintenance mode only, to have a replacement for
evolution-exchange, thus to be able to connect to Exchange 2003 servers.
Of course, it depends whether your admins also enabled EWS on the
server, but supposing that the latest Outlook may also use EWS protocol,
then they should have it enabled. The 2013 Exchange servers have MAPI
disabled by default, it works only with your-mentioned RPC-over-HTTP
(which might be probably the reason why you ask this).

Hi,
make the dependency for evolution-data-server, not evolution, because
the running part resides in evolution-data-server.

Just a side not, the 3.12.0 (and I think also 3.10.4) will claim any
errors, instead of getting hung on password prompts when an error
happens on the evolution-data-server (evolution-source-registry process)
side. It was a bug that the client side (evolution process) didn't
receive errors.

Hi,
you are right, I also noticed recently that the UI of an appointment
reminder freezes when I click 'Dismiss' there. I do not know for how
long it takes though, maybe I just begun to notice it, because I setup
some reminders recently.

Feel free to file a bug against evolution, thus it's not forgotten.

Guys,

Unless you want to discuss it in the context of Evolution, I'd suggest
you to find a better venue to heat up the systemd debate.

This is not the right place to have a flame war about init systems
and/or session management daemons, not even in the context of GNOME.

So I will politely suggest that you guys move this discussion somewhere
else.

Thanks.

I'm using Evo 3.10.3 on Fedora 20 with two Gmail accounts, both set to
IMAP+, and don't have this problem. My Receive options are:

Check for new mail in subscribed folders
Use server Quick Resync
Listen for server change notifications

You might also want to experiment with the new mail check interval (same
Preference panel).

Well, I've been using this for years in Windows Outlook and I did not face
any issues. Worst case could be that I archive a mail and as well as the
disk location if a project (or subject) becomes too old, or rarely I may do
a re-shuffling of my files in a project but then I'm aware that I've
changed something. The link at least gives me a piece of info that the
removed attachment notice doesn't give: where it was saved before. Knowing
where it was saved before will then help me find its new location easily
without making another step to search. Searching is anyway always possible.

So by adding a link or a pointer to the saved location inside the text, you
lose nothing, but gain an info which will be useful in 90% of the cases (in
my cases at least).

Anyway this link aspect is not the main subject of the request, it's a
bonus. A detach function is priority to gain some seconds from my life and
less strain on my fingers of saving extra mouse clicks :)

PS. I don't use Evo for mailing lists or technical mails, I'm pure business
user and I deal with ~150 mails from many different subjects everyday from
many countries. My mailbox (and archives) can fill up very quickly if I
don't do detaching/deleting attachments.

I have been told that they rate-limit IMAP and SMTP connections [I have
not authoritative citation for this]. But if it is true and you are
polling too frequently that could explain notification brown-outs.

Hi,
and it still does for me, as long as the Location is filled. Tested with
3.11.4 in a Day view, with multi-day and several-hours/minutes
appointments.

Adding the description might be tricky, due to its length. The Tasks
view is adding it there, and cuts after several letters, like 1024,
which makes the tooltip quite large. I'm not going to change this for
now, but maybe one day it'll be changed. You can always fill a bug
report asking for that.

Hi,
nope, EWS stands for "Exchange Web Services", it's a protocol which
deprecates MAPI with its RPC (Remote Procedure Call) API, and uses only
HTTPS calls (Web calls, if you prefer). Those two things are completely
different, in many ways.

RPC-over-HTTP (aka Outlook Anywhere) allows tunneling RPC calls through
HTTP(s) layer.

The evolution-ews works pretty good with Exchange 2010 servers.

Clarification about NetworkManager:

Evolution used to depend on NetworkManager for network status. It
doesn't anymore. Network monitoring is now built directly into GLib,
and that's what Evolution/EDS has been using since (I think) 3.6.

I'm not exactly sure how GLib's network monitoring works. The docs only
state it's based on the kernel's netlink interface, but I think it works
with or without NetworkManager installed.

GLib also lets us test reachability of specific host names, so we can
more gracefully handle scenarios like a disconnected VPN or switching
WiFi networks. Evolution 3.12 will take full advantage of this.

Hi,
well, my understanding of the thing is that RPC-over-HTTP [1] is for
MAPI protocol, not for EWS, because EWS uses SOAP, not RPC. I would not
be surprised if your Outlook uses MAPI in the background, not EWS [2].
Ask your admins on a connection point/address for EWS, and then try to
create an evolution-ews account in evolution with that address filled.
Do not be bothered with non-functional "Fetch URL", the server can have
disabled autodiscovery.
Bye,
Milan

[2] I'm pretty sure that Outlook 2007 uses MAPI protocol exclusively,
while Outlook 2010 may have somewhere an option to switch between EWS
and MAPI, though I do not have available the Outlook 2010 version, to
guide you more precisely. On the other hand, the Outlook 2013 may use as
its primary protocol EWS.
