The fix mentioned is to enable "Wrap quoted text in replies", but I
already have that setting enabled.  It seems it's something else.

@Milan, may I send you the before and after messages privately so that
you could evaluate them?

Thanks

Re: [Evolution] Problem setting up iCloud account in Evolution - Folder parse error

2021-04-21 Thread Kurt Scherffius via evolution-list

It's not that I'm skeptical - I worked at Apple for 14 years.

So...I know exactly what they will and won't do as far as support is concerned,
and how they will go about doing (or not doing) it.

Thankfully(?) I have a couple of iOS devices that I'm testing with.  One - an
old iPhone 4s running iOS 9 - works fine.  So, it's of no use.

The other is a first generation iPod.  As it is so old, it has to be set up
manually for Mail access per https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202304 :

Use iCloud settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 7 or later.

It's running iOS 3.1.3, so it won't auto-configure.

Mail is currently failing on the Gen One iPod.  SCORE!

As it is an Apple device, they will at least talk to me about it as opposed to,
"your device is third-party; Apple assumes no responsibility with regard to the
selection, performance, or use of third-party websites or products."

By attempting to force them to support their First Gen iOS device, this may be
the pebble that starts the avalanche.  I'll begin working with them Friday (it
will probably take all day on the phone with them to get nowhere, so I need to
set aside a whole day to be on the phone with them).  I don't hold out much
hope - the good folks at Evolution will have far better luck - but at least I
am in a position to be the squeaky wheel.

Oh, and I also tested the iCloud settings in Claws and the bundled email client
with Elementary OS (I believe it is a fork of Geary); both failed.

Wish me luck for Friday...

I really do not want to have to migrate to Thunderbird as I am very leery of

It did not make it into the 3.38.x series. You can apply the change

You should not be using Fedora 28. Evolution 3.28 is also obsolete, but
updating your system to at least Fedora 32 (preferably F33 as F34 will
be released soon) will bring Evo up to date. If you still have problems
after that, then feel free to ask.

You are running an insecure system with hundreds of unfixed security
vulnerabilities. Fedora 28 saw its end of support on 2019-05-28.
Please use supported and maintained software for your own safety.

That makes sense. Evolution didn't change anything between the two

only some people affected, then is explains it as well.

The debug log can show what the server returned, which can be
eventually reported to the Apple folks.

[Evolution] evolution: settings not retained, external editor, pane resize

2021-04-21 Thread Mukesh via evolution-list
Hi All,

I am trying to switch to evo from tb. System: fedora 28, fvwm. evolution:
3.28.5 (3.28.5-3.fc28)

I start as (I read somewhere that if you don't use gnome, you must start it
as following):
eval \'gnome-keyring-daemon\'
export GNOME_KEYRING_PID
export GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET
evolution

I've few issues:

1. I remove/uncheck show buttons and TO DO pane, and they go away as
expected. But the settings
are not remembered on next start. Both show up again when I quit evo
and restart.

2. I enable external editor (reason for the switch to evo), and select
gvim, and it seems to save it.
When I go to compose, and external editor, it still brings up gedit.
When I go back and look at the
plug in again, I see it changed to gedit from gvim. I see no warnings
on the xterm, and I can't seem
to find a verbose mode/log for details on why. gvim is installed, and
I can run it from xterm. I also
tried /bin/gvim -f instead of just "gvim -f"

3. The folder pane is too wide, my folder names are only few letters. I am
able to drag and make it
bigger, but not smaller. I tried ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css following:
EMailSidebar.view {
   width: 10px;
 }

I tried several values, but nothing! Anyway, I can make that work.

Thanks for all the help. I am not subscribed to the list, so kindly include
me in To or CC.

[Evolution] Reply often loses a chunk of the mail trail

2021-04-21 Thread Louis van Dyk
Hi

I'm running evolution-3.38.4-1.fc33.x86_64 on Fedora 33.

A few times when I reply to a mail thread, I've noticed that the mail
trail is dropped, keeping only one or two messages from it. In the
past I'd never seen this happen (i.e. the Fedora 32 days).

I can't recall the specifics of the last time it happened, but then I
had it happen today in a thread.

I'd received mails from Office 365 users, and had replied to them. In
the message I replied to there were two prior emails in the thread,
hence there were now three. I hadn't had a response to the mail, so I
went to sent items, opened the mail I had sent, and hit Group Reply.
Everything under my previous reply was gone. In other words, my old
reply plus the new one were there. The Office 365 messages prior to
that were all dropped.

Why could this be happening, and how can I stop this from happening in
future?

Regards
Louis

Hi,
the Flatpak application is run differently:

   $ CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io flatpak run org.gnome.Evolution

That makes sense. Evolution didn't change anything between the two
days, thus it's expected the server changed something. If there are
only some people affected, then is explains it as well.

The debug log can show what the server returned, which can be
eventually reported to the Apple folks.
Bye,
Milan
