Re: [Evolution] Deleted font used by evolution - fedora 36

2022-07-30 Thread Luigi Cantoni via evolution-list
HI all,

Sorry to bother everyone again.

I have 5 systems which are basically nearly exactly the same.
On three of them the icons are (were) working correctly in evolution.
I can change them and they change.

For 2 systems they refuse to change in evolution.
The folder icons visible on the desktop change exactly as they should
when I use tweaks to change them but evolution icons will not change
from the B&W version.

I have the same user environment i.e. all the home files and
configurations etc copied from an non working one onto one of the
working system and it works.
If I take a working user and put it onto the non working machine it
does not work.
This implies to me it is something in the system generally that is
stopping it (not the user end).

I have made sure all these are upgrade/reinstalled etc to make sure
they are exactly the same version etc
evolution
gnome-tweaks
gnome-extensions-app
gnome-colors-icon-theme (the themes I wish to activate)
chrome-gnome-shell
adwaita-qt6
libadwaita
libadwaita-qt6
I was hoping maybe one of these was just out of date or something.

I have also made sure user the extensions apps are also installed that
are needed like
user-themes (which I don't has any effect on the icon theme but the
shell theme).

I updated/reinstalled these items for gtk3 but again no luck.
PackageKit-gtk3-module
gtk3
ibus-gtk3
libappindicator-gtk3
libcanberra-gtk3
libdbusmenu-gtk3
libindicator-gtk3
libreoffice-gtk3
python3-matplotlib-gtk3
webkit2gtk3
webkit2gtk3-jsc

I am fairly sure I have just missed some software update or something
to do with gtk that needs to be done but I cannot see what it is.

The really annoying thing is that somewhere in what I have been doing
has now made my system also stop working and revert back to B&W icons.
I was doing things to try and fix it on both my (working) system and
one of the failed systems. It all looked fine on my system until I
rebooted, this makes me think maybe some sort library/module file. My
working systems are now all at work. I SSH'ed into one of the systems
checked it still looked OK and checked all the version for the above
files and all were the same except 1 which I downgraded. No
improvement.

I am at a loss now and would appreciate it someone could advise what I
have missed/done wrong.
When I get to work Monday I will try and work out what it is but I
cannot now see anything obvious at the moment.
Happy to try anything people suggest. When I work it out I will let
everyone know.

Mailer: Evolution 3.44.2 (3.44.2-1.fc36)

Thanks you guys,
Pointing me at the themes has lead me to solve the problems.

I needed to make sure tweaks, chrome-gnome-shell and user-themes
installed (they were on my machine).
Then the actual icons. I have found gnome-colors-icon-theme these ones
fine.

One system is still not 100% correct so maybe that has to do with
the"Legacy Applications" on that system.
Regardless I am sure I will sort it.

Thanks again for pointing me in the correct direction.

[Evolution] Getting just the right experience

2022-07-30 Thread Steve Litt
Hi all,

I'm writing this for any newbies like me who want to configure Evolution to suit
their taste...

I found a few things less than perfect:
 1) Unread message markers appeared only in INBOX, no other folders
 2) Those annoying "new mail" graphics at the upper right of my screen
 3) It took too long between message checks
 4) The fonts weren't exactly for my eyesight

Solutions:

1) Edit=>preferences=>(my_mail_account)=>edit=>receiving_options: I checked
"Check
for new mail in all folders". This was particularly helpful because before I
found
that I had been manually going to every folder to get it to get mail.

2) Edit=>preferences=>Plugins=>Mail_notification: I unchecked that and right
away
stopped Evolution and restarted it.

3) Edit=>preferences=>(my_mail_account)=>edit=>receiving_options: I checked
"check
for new mail every" and then I put 3 for the number of minutes. Your mileage may
vary: You might want 1 minute or 10 minutes. Or you might want it to check only
when
you want it to, in which case you uncheck the "check for new mail every" box.

4) Edit=>preferences=>Mail_preferences=>General_tab: I set my fonts and minimum
font
size to suit my eyesight.

My compliments to the Evolution project for not requiring either Gnome or
systemd,
because I have neither. I init with runit and have Openbox for my user
interface,
and Evolution works perfectly under these conditions. Thanks for making
Evolution so
universal.

Keep up the good work. Evolution is the best email client around!

Also, I forgot to ask, how do you set up a filter for foreign spam?

I am getting spam in Russian and Chinese.

Re: [Evolution] Understanding the "Free form expression" syntax (GMail-like search with conditional operators)

2022-07-30 Thread Jeff via evolution-list
I have tried looking around and did not find any further documentation
on this,  other than one person in asking the same kind of question in
a distro forum: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=264559

I did not find anything else in this list here or in the issues
tracker.
Are the example "or:(blah blah)" queries I mentioned in my previous
email supposed to work?

You don't need the Free form expression for this.
Instead of providing a single expression in that search, click on the
magnifying glass and open Advanced search.
On 'Find items which match' select 'any of the following conditions'
Click Add conditions as many times as you need, and fill the boxes.
That way you can have a condition of Sender contains Marjorie and a
second condition of Sender contains Trello.

As for your problem with the Free form expression, they use a prefix
notation, not infix. You would need
   or:(f:trello f:marjorie)

If you go to Help and search for "Available Filter Conditions" and then
navigate to the obvious page you will see a link to "special syntax"
under the "Free Form Expression" section. This has the original
documentation from the issue, but also has some examples which should
explain uses.

[Evolution] B&W font used by evolution 3.44.3-1.fc36 problem

2022-07-30 Thread Luigi Cantoni via evolution-list
HI all,
I tracked down what causes the font to revert to B&W and not use the
icon type set by tweaks.

If I use Evolution 3.44.0-1. fc36 they work fine.
If I upgrade to 3.44.3-1.fc36 it reverts to the B&W ones only.

I guess I will now log this a bug in github then.
I will wait a day or two in case someone can tell me that in fact I
have something wrong and it does work correctly on 3.44.3.
All I have done is downgrade evolution and restart it and it works.
Upgrade and restart and it stops working.
No other alteration is being made.
