You probably had an app in the old phone that acted as a provider of
the MemoToo addressbook. This was then used by other apps like
Contacts. Installing this missing piece on your new phone should fix
it.

For whatever reason, Samsung Contacts does not show MemoToo's
addressbook/contacts.

I looked through several "Best Contacts Apps for Android articles," found
three to check, and settled on Simple Contacts Pro. MemoToo's addressbook
is visible, and the software allows me to select/deselect which contacts
source to use (MemoToo, Google, phone, etc).

Thank you,

Max

[Evolution] Syncing a new Android phone - Gnome Evolution Contacts/Addressbook & Calendar - some progress

2022-01-08 Thread Max Pyziur

Reposting from the SyncEvolution list:

Greetings,
Because I was required to upgrade to a 5G phone, in November I acquired a
Samsung A52 replacing my Samsung S7.

Almost everything was transferred correctly, except what seemed to be the
addressbook and calendar.

I had been using SyncEvolution and MemoToo (a cloud service), and
MemoToo's phone app to move the calendar and addressbook data to the
phone, using Evolution on my computer to manage the data.

On the phones I use the default installed Samsung Contacts and Samsung
Calendar apps.

At first, I reported that neither Memotoo addressbook nor calendar data
were visibile to the Samsung apps on the new A52 phone.

Correction: the data is visible to Samsung Calendar, including the
birthdays of people in my addressbook data.

What's still not visible is the addressbook data.

As it turns out, it's a difference in the features to the Samsung Contacts
(ver 3.28.27.11) on the S7 phone, and the Samsung Contacts on the A52
phone (ver 12.7.05.26).

ver 3.28.27.11 has the feature: Settings -> Contacts to Show where you can
individually select which accounts' addressbook to show; in this case,
Memotoo's. Other choices that appear are things like the contacts in
Signal, WhatsApp, Outlook, etc.,

ver 12.7.05.26 on the A52, as best I can tell, does not have this feature,
and hence, the addressbook data that I want/need to show is unavailable.

When I first reported this issue, the suggestions made included the use of
different apps (e.g. NextCloud) or services.

Now, I thought that possibly I could install a different Contacts manager;
of the ones I found (so far, and which seem to have considerable
popularity), I have installed Contacts+, SimpleContacts, and Google
Contacts. None of these three has a "contacts to show" feature that would
directly allow me to access specific account data.

At this point, I'm turning again to the SyncEvolution community for
advice:

 - is there a Contacts app that allows specific account access?
 - should this issue be raised with Samsung (there are some forums and
feedback mechanisms that Samsung provides); ver 12.7.05.26 does have a
"Contact Us" feature

 - or other approaches to solving this -

A little more: ver 12.7.05.26 of Samsung Contacts has a "Manage Contacts"
menu; Manage Contact -> Import or Export contact -> Import has two
options:
From "Phone or Cloud Storage" or From "SIM Card." Is this an acceptable
option? Does someone have experience with this or other options under
"Manage Contacts"

Adding: from ver 12.7.05.26 menu (three bars), there is "All Contacts;"
tapping that shows a breakdown of different addressbooks on the phone, but
it doesn't show the MemoToo addressbook.

Much thanks,

Max Pyziur

Hi Max
Connecting Evolution to Google Contacts is really easy. Your OS
(Fedora?) will have an "online accounts" section of the Gnome settings
(or whatever the equivalent is). Just add your Google account in there
and Evolution should automatically pick up that there is a contacts
list and a calendar available for it to use. Using the online accounts
is easier than trying to set it up directly in Evolution.

Much thanks for your reply, and apologies for the delay in mine.

One concern that I have is the direction of the sync, since I have been
keeping the master data on my pc, and sending the data via SyncEvolution
and Memotoo to my phone.

I suppose that this is available, and I will try and research this myself.
But if you or anyone can offer insights here, that would be helpful.

Subject: Seeking advice - Considering move to Google Contacts or something
similar

Greetings,

I recently was required to upgrade my current phone (Samsung S7) to a new phone
(Samsung S52) since the one I've had wasn't 5G compatible. The service is
T-Mobile.

I've relied on using MemoToo's cloud service to sync my addressbook and calendar
managed by Evolution on my primary computer, and then to sync my phone's
contacts from MemoToo.

MemoToo provided an app, and everything worked reliably on my S7 for several
years.

In porting to the A52, the MemoToo can be installed, the contacts and
addressbook can downloaded, but they are not visible to the A52 contacts and
calendar apps. Reviewing the MemoToo forums, this seems to be a problem shared
by many MemoToo users. The S7 is still on Android 8.x while the A52 is uusing
Android 11. This could be the source of the issue, or it could be something
else.

Requesting clarification from MemoToo as to whether this issue will be addressed
results in no response.

I've also approached the SyncEvolution community. There was some advice and some
alternative apps suggested, but so far, I haven't been able to make anything
work.

So, I'm looking for advice on how to proceed from the Fedora community.
 - What services are available to sync to Evolution and then to the A52, if at
all?
 - Or is syncing Evolution to Google Contacts and Calendar is satisfactory?
-- if the latter, is there guidance on setting this up?

Much thanks,

Hi together,

there might be another way to export the complete mail to text (I have
tested the way on Ubuntu 20.04) - but it works only with mails in plain
text format (HTML does not work)!

 * install cups-pdf to get a local pdf-printer on your system (for all
   applications
 * install poppler-utils (there is a script called pdftotext included)
 * print the mail you want to get as a text-file via cups-pdf. On my
system cups-pdf is configuered to put the pdf-file in
   /var/spool/cups-pdf/$LOGNAME
 * create a temporary directory for working, eg. /tmp/export-pdf
 * select all pdf-files you want as a textfile and copy/move them from
cups-pdf directory to the temporary folder
 * cd into /tmp/export-pdf
 * run following commands: for i in *.pdf; do pdftotext $i; done
 * you will find a bunch of textfiles, named like your pdf-file, but
   with suffix .txt

That's it.

Best regards

The interesting point is in my logile, that in second line i gave you
is printed "LOGIN" what is mising in your file :o

It seems like your evolution is starting in offline-mode or cannot read
your IMAP-credentials from the keyring.

* which WM do you use?
* which desktop-manager do you use?
* WIFI or cable LAN?
* autostart/~login or manual login?

Hi Wolf,

it seems a little bit strange, using evolution with xubuntu autostart
works for me. So a few questions to find the error:

* which WM do you use?
* which desktop-manager do you use?
* WIFI or cable LAN?
* autostart or manual login?

I'm using xfce4 with xubuntu 20.04 LTS and login manually. After login
Evolution gets startet via .config/autostart/evolution.desktop without
any problems.

A hint for finding the error may be, to write an own start-script with
the lines

#!/bin/bash
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/bin
set -x
evolution >> /tmp/evolution-starter.log 2>&1

to get the output while starting hidden by desktop-manager.
Don't forget to make the script executable (chmod 755 startscript.sh)

Hi,

I have experienced this problem at least once in the past as well.
Though I would have noticed if it were happening on a regular basis. I
thought that I just missed an error message back then. If there was
indeed no error message, this would be a very very bad issue that needs
to be fixed asap, as otherwise it would render evolution utterly
unusable. I think I will add a dummy email address to BCC to immediately
notice message loss in the future...

Sometimes when I add a Jpeg image, evolution just crashes and closes
without any notification. (Couldn't find a consistent way to reproduce this)

Otherwise all is fine and evolution is awesome :)

Running:

Linux 3.12.0-1-ARCH

Evolution 3.10.2

Kind regards

[Evolution] FileChoosers broken

2013-10-16 Thread Max

Dear Evolution-Team,

since a few weeks I am suffering from filechooser problems in evolution.
Mouse controls are pretty much gone. The only way to navigate to some
place is to enter the path into the adress field. If one happens to be
in a path above the desired path it is possible to navigate through the
folder entries. All buttons on top (including the "go one dir-level up"
button aren't working. Neither does the left list of locations. So if I
start the dialog in "recent documents" there is no working button to get
me to my home folder, I need to show the adress bar (LUCKILY the button
for this is working) and type /home. The very same filechooser dialog
works just fine in Gimp and other software. Additionally the icons in
the list on the left are all replaced by "file" icons, which is also not
happening in Gimp.

I am running the following system:

Arch Linux 3.9.9-1-x86_64
gtk3-3.8.4-1-x86_64
qt-4.8.4-3-x86_64
awesome-3.5-2-x86_64
xorg-server-1.14.3-2-x86_64
xf86-video-intel-2.21.9-1-x86_64
oxygen-gtk3-1.2.0-1-x86_64
oxygen-icons-4.9.5-1-any
xf86-input-synaptics-1.7.1-1-x86_64
evolution-3.8.5-1-x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.8.5-1-x86_64

I would be very glad about a fix for this, as it is VERY annoying.

I tried updating the icon cache without success.

Same issue occured on version:

evolution-3.8.4-1-x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.8.4-1-x86_64

Thanks a lot for any help

[Evolution] html signatures?

2008-07-30 Thread Max Lock

Hi Folks,

Hopefully there's an easy answer to this question. My company has a
very strict email policy regarding email layout. We have email
'stationary' that's html based with a stylesheet. However when I try and
use this html file as a signature. the styling gets removed, as do font
references etc.

Is there a way to override/disable the built in styling?

 -Cheers Max.
