Hi, the File->Work Offline and the confirmation to synchronize the folder content is there to ensure that no messages will be missed in the offline folder content. It's not mandatory. Furthermore, once you have set to copy content for offline operation for the folders, then the newly recognized messages are downloaded automatically. Thus the File->Work Offline is rather for the old messages (eventually for those which failed to download automatically for whatever reason). You said in one of the previous messages that some folders are large. Once they will be completely downloaded for offline (or when you opt- out them from the offline synchronization), then the File->Work Offline will be lightning fast and most often not needed at all. > I'm using IMAP (on gmail, to be precise), and what I'd like to > achieve is automatic sync of both headers and bodies automatically, > with minimum network bandwidth usage (hotel/airport networks are > a mess). This gets partly against each other. You cannot expect minimal download when you want to download whole message content. Nonetheless, there is a request to do something similar, for example to not refresh whole folder content (with check what changed for old messages), but only download new messages, when on a metered network. It's similar to your request. Evolution's IMAP doesn't support it yet. Just a note, if I'm not mistaken, Gmail doesn't support quick resync. FWIW I've just tried the "work offline" and 5 minutes later, it's still syncing messages in some of the folders (on a hotel wifi, but not particularly bad one). I'd much rather do the sync regularly while connected, so that it either proceeds quickly when "work offline" is selected, or that I only miss the smallest number of messages when I forget to do this (or lose the network unexpectedly). regards Tomas ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

[Evolution] configuring evolution for offline use
Hi, I'm considering switching to evolution from another mail client, and the one thing I'm struggling with is configuring it for offline use (a laptop, so a lot of time without network). I also access the mailbox from other machines occasionally. I'm using IMAP (on gmail, to be precise), and what I'd like to achieve is automatic sync of both headers and bodies automatically, with minimum network bandwidth usage (hotel/airport networks are a mess). What I've done so far is (1) setting a bunch of accounts in account settings * check for new messages in all folders * use quick resync if the server supports it * synchronize remote mail locally in all folders (2) for all interesting folders (so pretty much all of them) * copy folder content locally for offline usage * always check for new mail in this folder Are those the right choices? Some of the folders are quite large (mailing list archives with thousands of messages), and evolution seems to be syncing almost continuously, so maybe some of the options are unnecessary (or maybe I need to set something else too)? thanks Tomas ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

First thing I would do is (a) consult the documentation of the server for configuration information I was looking at it last night to see if there was anything I could point the OP to. Hi, I guess the Host unreachable is caused by the server, returning incorrect address. But why you get your password rejected is strange. Could you run evolution like this, please: $ LIBMAPI_DEBUG=15 evolution log.txt and do the authentication with kerberos, then observe the log.txt file. One thing, the file will be very long, it logs quite much information, thus check the end, I suppose it'll write there the host unreachable error too. Then you can see what host it is. I would add this host to your /etc/hosts, with correct IP, to workaround issue in server setup (if it's it). You can similarly catch log with the password. By any chance, do you have set also Use secured connection in evolution? I do not see that being on in your mapiprofile command, thus I would unset it too - or vice versa for testing. [Evolution] Configuring evolution with Linux email server problems
I have a small local network at home with Linux and XP systems attached to it. I also have a computer in my office at school, which I manage myself, which I had set up as a mail server, both for incoming and outgoing mail. I used evolution as my linux mail agent. At a certain point comcast, my ISP at home, started blocking port 25 which meant that my outgoing mail failed. So I switched to using port 587 with comcast's outgoing mail server, but continued too use my office computer for an incoming mail server. I would now like to switch back, but I am having troubles. I managed to figure out how to configure sendmail.mc on my office computer to tell it to use port 587. But I can't get outgoing mail to work however I configure evolution on my home computer I've tried various things but none seem to work. the closest I've come is that I get a request for an SMTP password for me as user on the office host, but that returns with Unable to authenticate to SMTP server. Bad authentication response from server. and a request to enter the password again. With other choices, it just hangs and when I cancel it. /var/log/maillog on the office server shows did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MSA which I believe is harmless, just telling me that no thing was done, but not the reason why. I've tried to see what happens if iptables on the server is turned off, and it makes no difference. It has something to do with either evolution's configuration for sending email or with something on my office server, but I can't see what. I repat that at one point I did have this working with the office server when it was using prot 25. Of course, a complete solution to my problem would be appreciated, but even a hint of how to go about troubleshooting the problem would be helpful. Meanwhile. I've gone back to using comcast's outgoing mail server. P.S. I can telnet to the server to port 587, but I don't know what to do next to try to see what is wrong. /var/log/maillog has offered little help. ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
