Now start up Evolution. You need to create a new account - fill in Name and Email address (it doesn't matter what you use) and on the next screen change the "Server Type" to "Maildir-format mail directories" and set the "Mail Directory" to the directory you found above. Fill in the rest of the wizard (it doesn't particularly matter what you use). When the wizard is complete you will have a new account in the left hand pane which will contain all your old mail. If you wish to use Evolution long term (rather than just printing out a few emails like you said originally), then I suggest you copy the mail you want to the "On this Computer" folders (drag and drop works) - it's probably not wise to use the temporary folders on a long term basis. Once finished with the old mails I suggest you delete the account you created within Evolution to avoid future confusion. A neat, clean installation. Thank you. And I promise, I will never ever again follow anything else. Now, I only failed to reinstall from the 2013 backup. Calling the tarball in the Menu (File - Restore Evolution Data) tells me to close Evolution and let the restore change all settings. Ok. Then it works some minutes (1,5 GB tarball). When I restart Evolution, I see - no changes. No mail, no contacts, no calendar, no changes in settings. I expanded the archive to a different directory and found .config 85,7kB Directory .local 2,2 GB Directory evolution.dir 100 Bytes unknown There are several subfolders, and as I usually store mail in subfolders in mailers, all those subfolders in those subdirectories are recognizably well known to me. All the mail is there, as I opened some of the files with cryptical names, which are readable, but no way to find specific msgs. Just don't get them into Evolution. Now, the backup is by 3.6.2, current installation is 3.2.3. My idea is that the backup of the newer version might not work in the older one, and I should upgrade on a version 3.6.2 or newer. Is that correct? Before messing things up again, I just ask. This was the 3rd serious issue I had in 4 months of trying out Evolution for the first time. Many great features in Evo, and I really wanted it to work because of how well it integrates with gnome, but I had more trouble with it in 4 months than in the previous 4 years of using Thunderbird. I'll return to check it out periodically to see how it has improved. Hi, if you've installed debug info packages then attach gdb to the running evolution/evolution-data-server/evolution-exchange process and file a bug containing result of the "thread apply all bt" command from gdb at http://bugzilla.gnome.org and some developer will look for the cause of the issue. Maybe related to the recently committed fix from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546444 but maybe not, it really depends on the back trace. [Evolution] Evolution started locking up after being left running for long periods
Recently, I started noticing that if I leave my computer for a few hours, then come back, Evolution has greyed out (locked up) and must be force quit. If I leave Evo closed and simply launch it when mail-notify tells me there is mail, I never have a problem. It's only when I leave Evo up and running throughout the day that it locks up. I'm using Ubuntu 8.4.1, with Evo version 2.22.3.1 from Ubuntu's repositories. Any ideas on how I can trouble-shoot this? -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Evolution-started-locking-up-after-being-left-running-for-long-periods-tp19016781p19016781.html Sent from the Gnome Evolution - General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
