While I don't advocate for Yahoo, one of the reasons is that you nowadays likely need a cellphone to sign up, in all fairness speaking, you don't need to pay for it, at least not with money or by providing other data, than everybody provides anyway by email headers whatever ISP is used or the message body of unencrypted emails. Most free as in beer services and all solutions you need to pay for, as yours, require to provide at least to give away some private data, either a cellphone number or bank details. I neither use a Yahoo app, nor the web interface. However, they much likely watch my traffic and much likely even spy email bodies, as the payed services by Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG I'm using most likely do, too. At least some of the bills where wasted with advertisements and from time to time the company is taken over by another company. When I signed the contract years ago the company's name wasn't Telefónica. Please read more closely and stop repeating your virtue signaling over paying for services. It's perfectly reasonable to pay for services and the original poster has not identified a budget. Mentioning that not everyone can pay 5 or 10 euros a year for service addresses no questions or claims. A solution could be to get rid of Yahoo by using your own domain and your own servers without a provider similar to Yahoo involved. IMO gmail is a provider similar to Yahoo. That's a glib and innumerate response; you should show more respect for decent conversation than to say that. namecheap.com is selling .co.uk subdomains for $6.88 to register and $9.58/yr for renewal. Last time I looked .info subdomains were quite inexpensive as well. Depending on one's privacy concerns, there are gratis email hosters that will let one host their own domain with them in exchange for spying on everything they send/receive (I don't recommend them but they exist). Such prices are not reasonably responded to with "a good solution for rich people" and don't require you to sign up for being constantly geolocated via a tracker/mobile. Since end of October it's required to generate a new password for each application, when using a mailer other than a Yahoo app or the web interface. For each account I generated one password for Claws and another for Evolution. Evolution sent an email... "Hey Yahoo Member, [snip] Option 3: You can generate a one-time, unique password that will allow you to sign in to your account using your non-Yahoo email application. One of the better free as in beer accounts I'm using, that doesn't require a mobile number (I donated, but you aren't forced to donate) is riseup.net, they are doing everything right, so you even get rid of the "via evolution-list" annoyance. IIRC while it's made by activists, so you don't need to fear that a company will carry it over, they only provide POP accounts. [Evolution] Yahoo IMAP stopped working ... again
I've been using Evolution for many years. I've had an account @sbcglobal.net for years. For years, the receiving server has been mail.imap.yahoo.com on port 993 with TLS. Today, it stopped working. I have another account @sbcglobal.net, also receiving via imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 with TLS. It works fine. I can access both accounts via web pages, which I assume do not use IMAP. AT and Yahoo service were no help. they blame Evolution. I reloaded Evolution. I rebooted. I changed my password. I created a new Evolution account, with a different account name, for the same @sbcglobal.net account. Nothing worked. There were many messages about this eight years ago. I'm using Evolution 3.30.5-1.1 on Debian Buster. Apparently, Debian doesn't offer Evolution updates.
