Hi, Yahoo/Rocketmail doesn't require me to sign up to be constantly geolocated via a tracker/mobile. To continue using old Yahoo/Rocketmail accounts with Evolution or other email clients, users only need to replace their old passwords, by passwords generated by Yahoo. I'm using one Yahoo and two Rocketmail (Rocketmail is Yahoo, too) addresses with Linux desktop PC email clients, one of them is Evolution and I don't own a cellphone at all. While I don't advocate for Yahoo, one of the reasons is that you nowadays likely need a cellphone to sign up, in all fairness speaking, you don't need to pay for it, at least not with money or by providing other data, than everybody provides anyway by email headers whatever ISP is used or the message body of unencrypted emails. Most free as in beer services and all solutions you need to pay for, as yours, require to provide at least to give away some private data, either a cellphone number or bank details. My latest email account doesn't require to give away such data: "[snip] We do not require you to sign up with a phone number or personal information. Instead, we rely on invite codes. [snip] There is no such thing as free email. Services like Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo make their money from surveillance: they build a profile on your behavior and your desires and then bombard you with advertising specifically targeted to you. Riseup is different. This service is a labor of love by activists like you committed to building movement-run and secure alternative infrastructure. The Riseup email service takes a lot of time and money to keep running, and is funded entirely by small donations from its users. Please do your part and contribute today." - https://riseup.net/en/email Btw. I don't see any advertisings when using my Yahoo accounts. They do not send emails with advertisings. I neither use a Yahoo app, nor the web interface. However, they much likely watch my traffic and much likely even spy email bodies, as the payed services by Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG I'm using most likely do, too. At least some of the bills where wasted with advertisements and from time to time the company is taken over by another company. When I signed the contract years ago the company's name wasn't Telefónica. You wrote: You recommendation to use it in combination with gmail is asking for trouble. Which is what I explicitly did not recommend. Please read more closely and stop repeating your virtue signaling over paying for services. It's perfectly reasonable to pay for services and the original poster has not identified a budget. Mentioning that not everyone can pay 5 or 10 euros a year for service addresses no questions or claims. A solution could be to get rid of Yahoo by using your own domain and your own servers without a provider similar to Yahoo involved. IMO gmail is a provider similar to Yahoo. So Gmail is denounced as "asking for trouble" but Gmail which is "a provider similar to Yahoo" (no doubt similar in terms of spying like Google as well as other similarities) is not beyond the pale. ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

However, not everybody can pay just 5,-€ here and just another 10,-€ there and ... in the end the few € here and there could become a considerable sum of money. You recommendation to use it in combination with gmail is asking for trouble. A solution could be to get rid of Yahoo by using your own domain and your own servers without a provider similar to Yahoo involved. IMO gmail is a provider similar to Yahoo. IIUC your point is, that you have got one domain and if gmail should behave like Yahoo, too, you could stay with your domain and just need to migrate to another free mail account for delivery, without the need to change the original email address. ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

That's a glib and innumerate response; you should show more respect for decent conversation than to say that. namecheap.com is selling .co.uk subdomains for $6.88 to register and $9.58/yr for renewal. Last time I looked .info subdomains were quite inexpensive as well. Depending on one's privacy concerns, there are gratis email hosters that will let one host their own domain with them in exchange for spying on everything they send/receive (I don't recommend them but they exist). Such prices are not reasonably responded to with "a good solution for rich people" and don't require you to sign up for being constantly geolocated via a tracker/mobile. Other options include gandi.net which offers email hosting and domain registration at low prices. ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

Re: [Evolution] Yahoo IMAP stopped working ... again
Hi, I'm using Yahoo and Rocketmail POP accounts with Claws and Evolution. Since end of October it's required to generate a new password for each application, when using a mailer other than a Yahoo app or the web interface. For each account I generated one password for Claws and another for Evolution. Evolution sent an email... "Hey Yahoo Member, [snip] Option 3: You can generate a one-time, unique password that will allow you to sign in to your account using your non-Yahoo email application. Once created, this password will continue to allow your app to securely sync your Yahoo email unless you sign out (or are signed out) from your app. You can find instructions on how to do this here https://uk.help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/SLN15241.html?impressions=true . [snip]" ...if you click the link, you get "Generate and manage third-party app passwords Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app. Generate an app password 1 Sign in and go to your Account security page. 2 Click Generate app password or Manage app passwords. 3 Select your app from the drop down menu and click Generate. 4 Follow the instructions below the password. 5 Click Done. 6 Use this app password and your email address to sign in to your email app. Revoke an app password [snip]" IIRC neither Claws, nor Evolution can be selected from a drop down menu, but there was an option to add any other mailer. I don't own a mobile number, so I got the zoho account I'm using for this list, before that fashion was introduced. However, even the best of those countless providers could be carried over soon, so it's impossible to recommend any provider. One of the better free as in beer accounts I'm using, that doesn't require a mobile number (I donated, but you aren't forced to donate) is riseup.net, they are doing everything right, so you even get rid of the "via evolution-list" annoyance. IIRC while it's made by activists, so you don't need to fear that a company will carry it over, they only provide POP accounts. [Evolution] Yahoo IMAP stopped working ... again
I've been using Evolution for many years. I've had an account @sbcglobal.net for years. For years, the receiving server has been mail.imap.yahoo.com on port 993 with TLS. Today, it stopped working. I have another account @sbcglobal.net, also receiving via imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 with TLS. It works fine. I can access both accounts via web pages, which I assume do not use IMAP. AT and Yahoo service were no help. they blame Evolution. I reloaded Evolution. I rebooted. I changed my password. I created a new Evolution account, with a different account name, for the same @sbcglobal.net account. Nothing worked. There were many messages about this eight years ago. I'm using Evolution 3.30.5-1.1 on Debian Buster. Apparently, Debian doesn't offer Evolution updates.
