 I doubt that Ubuntu is the problem. If it is, then ask on a Ubuntu list,

And can you telnet to pop.att.yahoo.com 995; just to verify you have
connectivity and there is something at that host+port.

Port number goes in apart box.  And it wouldn't be pop.mail.yahoo.com?
Did you configure authentication items like passwords and session
security?
Are you sure that your configuration works?  Maybe you aren't setting up
well your account.  May be Yahoo is having some kind of trouble.

I got it set up in the past but recent installs was unrewarding lets see I set 
up my port assignments like so with server info as follows 
-pop.att.yahoo.com.995-when I try evolution it quickly shows the downloading 
msg screen and thats it.any help would be useful in solving my problem and how 
I send mail msgs is entirely in windows XPwhich I hate.so please a little help 
would be useful in my endevors.
