[Evolution] how to back up?

2014-08-08 Thread mario chiari
Hi

I appreciate your advise on how to back my mails.
I am on Fedora 17 and Evolution 3.4.4.

I want to back up both to an external hd, and to a Fedora 20 and
Evolution 3.10.4 setting.

I am thinking to use rsync and a command as:

rsync -az --progress --size-only /local/*
:

but I am not sure anbout either whether that is wise or the paths.

regards
mario

The right answer depends on what kind of mail accounts you're talking
about. For IMAP, leaving all mail on the server means you don't need to
back it up (contacts and calendar info is another matter). For POP, you
will have to physically back up files from your machine, but Evo 3.4 is
quite old so I don't recall the layout. In any case, there's a
File->Backup Evolution Data option which creates a tar file of your
local data. Back that up and then try to restore it on the new system. I
have no experience of Groupware or Exchange accounts.
