Comparing a list of about 50 e-mail addresses against several mailing lists take time, especially as it has to be batched. The filters I have catch about 80% of instances, and only becomes a problem if I read mail on my phone first, so it becomes marked as read. Which means in Evo its not highlited, hence then having to search to find where it went. Nothing to do with lazyness or idleness or not being able to write a filter, its a case of keeping process time and cpu loading low. However, you could still use a more complex condition to filter it (check the recipient addresses, or even the server that sent it). I too, like keeping mails to different lists/groups on separated folders. As each list should be sending you a copy, filtering on list would move each one to its folder. However, what breaks it are the case where the recipient list has been "conveniently" unified, either by the mail provider (eg. Gmail) or a list server shared by both lists (eg. Exchange). There is a variant in the case that the mail server sees that you are explicitly listed as a recipient and skips sending you the list email, which is the mailman default, but that can be disabled by the user. The problem in such case is that you have *one* email that needs to be filed into *two* folders, because you should have received it *twice*, but you didn't. ☹ > Filters are boolean , so you cant use "maybe" How would that help? Actually the filter even could be able to learn, since you could pipe to one program after the other. That the next time I loaded up EVO and clicked on my "Archives folder" that in the search bar at the top right of the screen still showed https://imgur.com/a/Oy54OAg When you exit a program, why on re launch does EVO remember your last search? When you exit a program shouldn't that search box cleared itself out on exit so on next launch you could search for something else? Instead of displaying what you last searched for, the last time you launched EVO? I hope that made sense... It took me a while to make sure I worded that paragraph above correctly. It often occurs that someone who is on my Ham personal list answers or posts in one of the mailing lists, so depending on the order of the filters it will often go in the wrong folder, if a multiple posting is made , ie. the use of CC. Oh I would hate that and I really don't think it would make searching any quicker and would slow everything down. I have some massive folders that are not usually searched for anything so aren't cached - it would frustrate me no end if I happen to have searched for something and change folders, for it to then to start downloading everything. My folders are also very specific in what they hold - a search in one folder would just not be applicable to another. And I also quite like the fact that a search in a folder is sticky - I can look for something when replying to another email and know the same search results will be there even if I look for something different in another folder. Your use case of not knowing where an email might be is exactly why there is the "Current Account" option in the search. The current search is ignored if you change folder, unless you select current account, and then you get everything that meets the search parameter displayed. I have over 20 folders, so its nice to be able to search folder by folder with same search parameter. If I read a mail on my phone, its marked as read, and sometimes depending on filtering the mail could go into several different folders, when I process it on the laptop. Hi, it is this gtk+ bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=656461 and even evolution doesn't use that function anymore, it uses some CSS foo to workaround the problem, it doesn't work for some reason. Either I fix it straight away, or if someone volunteers to file a new bug against evolution, thus it's not forgotten, then it'll be nice too. I think a nice long-term solution would be to show the search bar only if it's searching and "collapse" it when not. That would give cleaner interface as well. Just an idea. I'm using stock Ubuntu 18.04 (and Ubuntu GNOME before Ubuntu dumped Unity; I've never used Unity) and I've never seen the search bar change color. This is Evolution 3.28.1. For some reason my email server is greylisted on gnome.org so most of you probably won't see this email. It works for the standard default GNOME theme though. I use Evo under KDE and I'm only now noticing that the background doesn't change, though I'm certain that at one time it did work as expected. No doubt something changed in the default theme. As the one who first suggested the feature years ago it's slightly embarrassing :- ). poc ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

That might depend on the used theme, since for $ pacman -Q evolution evolution 3.28.4-1 and the theme I'm using, this doesn't happen. It's a customized Arc theme: $ grep gtk-theme .config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini gtk-theme-name=Arc-RM-Cornflower If it should work when using a default GNOME theme such as Adwaita, then it's not a solution for everybody who wants to get a theme for professional usage, that might not be as good as themes are for air planes or military gear, but at least closer to such a air plane and military gear approach, than to the ridiculous, amateurish GNOME themes. Actually I replaced Adwaita with an Arc theme fixed by myself, because Adwaita became a PITA. ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
