Re: [ewg] ofa_1_5_kernel 20101128-0200 daily build status

2010-11-28 Thread Richard Croucher
I've just installed OFED 1.5.2 using your install.pl on two brand new
servers I'm building.

Certainly a lot better experience than the last time I did this with
the standard OFED release a few years ago.

These were two new freshly build servers with OpenSuSe11.2 with a
2.6.31 kernel, so I had no pre-existing environment on them.

I added all the packages listed in the README.txt for the components I
wanted.

It took three go's to finally build the new kernel and install
InfiniBand.

First attempt failed since neither quilt or patch were available on the
systems.

I downloaded quilt and tried again

20 minutes of build later it failed again, this time it could not find
make.

I downloaded make and tried again

30 minutes later it failed again, this time iit was looking for libtool

I downloaded libtool and tried again.

This time it finished successfully and I had InfiniBand up and
running.
Took about 2 1/2 hours due to the false starts.

It would be worthwhile adding checks for these commands near the
beginning of the build scripts.

There were also a lot of error messages about user vlad and group vlad
not being present. The scripts should not really contain any had codes
dependencies on users other than root.

Overall, a good job though. thanks for all your efforts.

Richard

So what makes you use ofed at all? anything wrong with the IB bits
provided by your distro? I'm not sure if/how this works exactly with
Yast, but on RHEL et al, installing the IB stack is done with one yum
command of yum groupinstall Openfabrics Enterprise Distribution, so
you're all set within 1-2 minutes, including setting the IPoIB network
scripts and opensm.
