2010-11-29 Thread Anindya Roy
Thanks a million Dave. You have just served it on a platter for me.

Simply awesome.

But would request you to explain the steps if possible as I am a begginer in
excel. What I could decipher is that

You have formed a separate column and have put the formula.

Then you have formed a separate drop down column in G2 putting the months as
reference - *How did you do this particular step??*

*It also seems that you have done conditional formatting in the main table.
But how is that only the month which am sorting is showing red in
colour??You need to explain me this step too.
*
*Regards*

$$Excel-Macros$$ How to set up:payments made and due on a calendar?

2010-11-29 Thread Ed from AZ
In XL2000, I have a calendar set up. I can set the month and year,
and formulas create the calendar for that month and about the next two
weeks of the next month. On another sheet, I can list events
(example: client name, date and time of event, activity), and the info
shows up in the calendar on the correct day. (I forgot who I got this
from, but big mega-thank-yous)

I'd like to set up another calendar for payments made and due. I can
track this just in a worksheet, but I'd like to see it visually on a
calendar - it would help in plotting other things to see on what day
the money is coming in.

I hope I can describe what I'm thinking well enough for y'all to
understand:
-- Let's say a client has a lesson every week. Each lesson is $10.
-- In my sheet listing all the client's info, I input that each entry
in the Activities calendar is worth $10.
-- Every time I make an entry for that client on the Activities sheet,
an entry populates on the Payments sheet that this client owes me $10
for this time, and has an outstanding balance of $100.
-- On the Payments calendar, the client's entry shows up.
-- On the Payments sheet, I make an entry for Payment Pending from
this client on some date for $60.
-- On the Payments calendar, an entry shows up for Payment Pending
from this client for $60.
(All that is the easy part. Now the part that stumps me ...)
-- On the Payments calendar, the first six of the client's entries
beginning from the last date the client was paid up to now show up
formatted italics (or maybe a color), indicating a pending payment to
cover those lessons.
-- On the Payments sheet, I record Payment Received for $100.
-- On the Payments calendar, ten lessons from the last date the client
was paid up to now show up formatted bold (or some other color) to
indicate the lesson was paid for.

The way I see it now, I need to get the dates the client was paid up
to, and the date the next payment will pay up to, and format every
entry for that client between those dates. I'd prefer to use a
formula, but I can use a macro if necessary. Maybe a UDF? The
possible problem is that the visible dates for the calendar are
changeable, so I can't simply start at the top and say "find this
client, starting from this date" - that date might not be visible.

Or maybe I can do the calculations in the Payments sheet - if this
lesson entry is covered by a pending payment, mark "X" in this column;
if covered by a received payment, mark "P". Add that to the entry for
the lesson, and use conditional formatting: if entry ends in "X",
format italics; if entry ends in "P", format bold.

Is there an easier way that I'm not seeing? Or a "gotcha" that I'm
not thinking of?

Ed

$$Excel-Macros$$ 'Automatic' change to Line Chart from XY Scatter Chart

2010-11-29 Thread Daniel
Hello,

I've been working with (x,y) data which is typically ordered in
groups, but the groups are unordered (e.g. points 50->100 then points
151->101 then points 49->1). I add the appropriate index (x-value)
and then re-order the data based on that index. The index is a
distance (in metres) and the points are about 1 metre apart (but not
exactly 1 m). There are typically 3 or 4 series of data on the graph.

Before I re-order the data, I graph the data with an XY-scatter chart,
which normally works fine. After I re-order the data based on the
index, my chart magically becomes a line chart instead of the xy
scatter chart. When I check the chart type (right-click on the series
-> "Chart type") it reports that it is still an xy scatter chart.

I tried changing to a line chart and changing back, but this doesn't
help. I also tried checking/setting the chart type to xy scatter
using a macro, but that also didn't work. Sometimes reverting to a
less ordered state of data (cutting-pasting chunks of data around)
will fix it, but not always.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong/is happening here? I appreciate any
help.

Thanks,
Daniel

get.cell returns (not set) information about the formatting, location, or
contents of a cell.
A function used in a formula can return a value. It cannot make any changes
to the workbook.
There are some exceptions:

Merge
UnMerge
AddComment
ClearComments
InsertIndent

Pl note that I will able to generate password protected XLS file.

 Please revert for help.

 Hello Sir,

I have a problem related to mail through excel. basically I have to make
salary slip. and forward it to the employees. I manage the data into the
excel and use mail merge in MS word. now the problem is, I have to make
separate file for each employee and have to send one by one on their e-mail
 id.

 Question

1- Is any way that we can make separately file automatically and send to
it mail automatically to each employee.
2- is any way that every file having its own password and its password
would be employee DOB or their PAN may be any other key

Here I am sending you sample file so please illustrate it because I am
new in the excel and don't know much more about other computer software &
 tools

 Thanks & regards
 Ankit
