Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ creating hyperlink on userform

2012-03-23 Thread Abhishek Jain
Dear Shankar,

Please find attached the solution you want. Change the path of your file in
the code of the form.

I have used a hand shaped cursor file to give a look of a hyperlink to the
label. For this I used a cursor file which is also attached. If you are not
seeing the "hand-shape" while hovering over the label, select this *han**
d.cur* file as the Label's MouseIcon image.

Feel free to revert in case you need anything else.

Cheers!

AJ

$$Excel-Macros$$ Service Count problem

2012-03-23 Thread Shankar Bheema
Dear Experts

In the userform of the attached workbook contains Date of Joining text box
and Date of Retirement textbox. The difference of both the values should
come to
23 yrs 01 mth 29 days but it is showing as 23 yrs 01 mth 01 day

In my office procedure resultant date should be given 1 bonus day with
this, the result should be 23 yrs 01 mnth 30 days
In general, as per my office rules 30 days will be considered as 1 month
for calculation of salary

Final result should come like 23 yrs 02 mths 00 days

Pls rectify the problem.

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ SQL Query - Excel VBA

2012-03-23 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hi Sharma,

I replied two weeks ago when you posted this question with a detailed
response with tips and requesting more information if you still needed help.

You didn't reply, but here is my post again. I can help more, bnut please
review what I already said and let me know what help you still need.

  _

Hi Sharma,

How do you define failure for the first query? 0 records returned? an
error from the database server/engine?

What do you want to do with the result of the query? Put it on a (new?)
sheet in your workbook?

*writing* the queries using VBA is very simple. The following assembles the
first query statement in a string variable:

Sub WriteSQLquery ()

Dim SQL As String

SQL = _

"SELECT " & _

" distinct AMRCostCtr " & _

"FROM " & _

" [SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[vReqsocs] a, " & _

" [SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[ReqMain] b " & _

"WHERE " & _

" a.ReqID = b.ReqID and MainRequestNumber = '365700';"

End Sub

Here's a robust-looking, general-purpose procedure called SQLLoad to open a
recordset for your query and copy the data to a worksheet: Beyond Excel -
Say Goodbye to QueryTables
. The associated blog actually contains a lot of good information
and code for working with databases from Excel (some of it advanced).

You will need a connection string to identify your data source and (if
needed) credentials. Connectionstrings.com
has a large index of connection string
examples. You should avoid Microsoft Jet connection strings and in cases
where there are alternatives, ODBC connection strings, which have been
replaced by newer drivers. (ODBC is still fine and commonly used with many
non-Microsoft data stores).

See if the above info gets you started. I can provide more help if needed.

Asa

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ SQL Query - Excel VBA

Hi Team,

Here I am posting a request for running sql queries in excel macro. I have
listed my queries below. Currently am running these queries manually. I want
these queries needs to be run automatically.

SELECT distinct AMRCostCtr
 FROM [SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[vReqsocs]
a,[SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[ReqMain] b
  where a.ReqID = b.ReqID and MainRequestNumber = '353817'

If the above query does not return a result then it should automatically run
the second query and then second query as shown below.

SELECT StationBranch
FROM [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqAMROOS
WHERE ReqID in (select reqid from [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqMain
where mainrequestnumber = 353817)

if the above one fails then it should run for the third one which is given
below.

SELECT BillableStationBranch
FROM [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqAMRIMAC
WHERE ReqID in (select reqid from [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqMain
where mainrequestnumber = 353817)

Please help me to get this done.

Thanks,

Sharma Krishnan

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Simple VBA to Fill in blanks

2012-03-23 Thread Damimkader S. Meeran
Hi,

Try the following code

Sub Fill_In_The_Blanks()
Dim i As Long
For i = 1 To 1
If Cells(i, 1) = "End" Then
Exit For
Else
If Cells(i, 1) = "" Then
Cells(i, 1) = Cells(i - 1, 1)
End If
End If
Next i
End Sub

The above code would require you to specify where the data ends.

Additionally, this could also be done without a VBA code using autofilters
in Excel.

1. Select the Range to autofilter and press ALT+D+F+F
2. In the first blank cell below 101 in your example type a formula
referencing the top cell using relative reference (without any dollar
signs) and copy this formula.
3. In the column where you want to populate the missing values select
blanks.
4. Paste this formula in the blanks cells. (Excel would paste the formula
reference the top non blank cell for the rest of the cells).

Let me know if you need more help or if there are questions.

Regards,
Damimkader S. Meeran

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Insert rows with missing data

2012-03-23 Thread Damimkader S. Meeran
Hi,

Based on the explanation you provided. I've created a workbook which is
attached herewith. Below are some of the requirements for this to function.

1. There is a sheet called "Time Groups" which contains all the time groups
in the data once. And they should match the time groups in the data exactly.
2. Cell B2 contains a count of the groups. It is used by the macro to
understand the number of unique groups in Times Groups.
3. Column F is a column which contains a formula which checks the count of
the "Country" + "Year" + "Age Group", based on the explanation you provided
it is seems that the combine CYA should appear 4 times if there are 4
groups. The program uses this logic to populate the missing information.
4. Run the macro "Insert_Missing_Rows".
5. This has been written in Excel 2007. So if it is run on an earlier or
later version of excel this might not function as certain VBA functions
might not be available.

Please run it and let me know if this helps. Holler with questions.

The Code for reference

Sub Insert_Missing_Rows()
Dim i As Long, j As Integer, k As Integer, cnt As Integer, TempSheetName
As String
cnt = 0

For i = 5 To 1000
If Cells(i, 1) <> "" Then
If Cells(i, 1) <> Cells(i + 1, 1) And Cells(i, 6) < Cells(1, 2) Then
Sheet1.Select
Diff = Cells(1, 2) - Cells(i, 6)

For j = 1 To Diff
Rows(i + 1 & ":" & i + 1).Select
Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown
Next j

Sheets("Time Groups").Select
Sheets("Time Groups").Copy After:=Sheets(3)
TempSheetName = ActiveSheet.Name
Sheet1.Select

For k = i - (Cells(i, 6) - 1) To i
For j = 1 To Sheet1.Cells(1, 2)
If Cells(k, 4) = Sheets("" & TempSheetName).Cells(j, 1)
Then
Sheets("" & TempSheetName).Select
Rows(j & ":" & j).Select
Selection.Delete Shift:=xlUp
Sheet1.Select
Exit For
End If
Next j
Next k

  Sheets("" & TempSheetName).Select
  Range("A1:A" & Diff).Select
  Selection.Copy
  Sheet1.Select
  Range("D" & i + 1).Select
  ActiveCell.PasteSpecial xlPasteAll

  Sheets("" & TempSheetName).Select
  Application.DisplayAlerts = False
  ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.Delete
  Application.DisplayAlerts = True
  Sheet1.Select

  For k = i + 1 To i + (Diff)
Range("A" & k & ":C" & k).Select
Selection.FillDown
  Next k
  i = i + (Diff)
End If
Else
Exit For
End If
Next i

End Sub

  Hi All,

Need a small help from you all. I have attached a file with this mail.
Now if you open the file you can see there is a button named Login, if you
click on it, it will take the system time and date.

There are two columns available, Name (Column A) and Login Time (Column
B), now I want if the respective Column A is blank then it will not put the
date and time in Column B, if there is a name in column A then only date and
time will be captured in the column B, other wise it will give me a error
message. If you have the code for the same then please provide me.

  Thanks in advance.

Hi Team,

Here I am posting a request for running sql queries in excel macro. I have
listed my queries below. Currently am running these queries manually. I
want these queries needs to be run automatically.

SELECT distinct AMRCostCtr
 FROM [SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[vReqsocs]
a,[SRT1].[RequestToolDev].[dbo].[ReqMain] b
  where a.ReqID = b.ReqID and MainRequestNumber = '353817'

If the above query does not return a result then it should automatically
run the second query and then second query as shown below.

SELECT StationBranch
FROM [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqAMROOS
WHERE ReqID in (select reqid from [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqMain
where mainrequestnumber = 353817)

if the above one fails then it should run for the third one which is given
below.

SELECT BillableStationBranch
FROM [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqAMRIMAC
WHERE ReqID in (select reqid from [SRT1].RequestToolDev.dbo.ReqMain
where mainrequestnumber = 353817)

Please help me to get this done.

Thanks,

Hi,
I'm nearly brain dead (tired) and can't think straight. I have a simple issue.
A macro to fill in blank values if found with the value from the cell above.

For example

101

1015

Would fill the blank rows with 101 until the next number 1015 is found, then it
would use 1015 until another number...

A file with sample data is attached. Thanks in advance.

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Handling Large Blocks of Text in Excel

2012-03-23 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hi Padre,

Just enable Resize Shape to Fit Text in the properties.

You might also consider using a userform and Active X Text Box, which has
scroll bars available.

See Debra Dalgleish's tutorial at
www.contextures.com/exceltextboxformat.html for more on the worksheet Text
Box.

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ Handling Large Blocks of Text in Excel

I have a number of different Excel front-ends that I use to extract
information from various corporate database systems. One area of
frustration arises when I am pulling large blocks of text from various note
fields on various SQL servers.I often hit the Excel's built in text
limits for individual cells. As a work around I starting using Excel's
built in Text Boxes which works, however I am struggling with dynamically
resizing these text boxes. I want to keep a certain width and adjust the
length/height of the text boxes to accommodate varying amounts of text (this
is required for printouts containing various information stored in cells +
the entire text entry)

OR

If there are alternative method besides Text Boxes, I'm all ears...

Thank you in advance for your help.

$$Excel-Macros$$ RE: So is it common for even an easy question on the forum to not get answered?

2012-03-23 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hi H.,
Not sure how you are determining that Excel knows or doesn't know your
column headings are column headings.

Do you mean it guesses correctly when you go to sort your data whether you
have headings or not?

Excel is not a database management system, so you have to get used to the
fact that Excel has kind of a wild-west, lawless attitude (both in general
and in handling data).

You can clue Excel that your headings are headings by formatting them in
bold and/or underline. Excel uses various (undocumented) clues to make it's
educated guesses. You can always override Excel's guesses when it does make
them, so it's not a huge deal either way.

The exception is in Excel 2007+ if you use the Table feature I mentioned
previously: the first row of the table must have headings, and Excel knows
they are headings. You can refer to columns by column name when working
with Tables.

Subject: So is it common for even an easy question on the forum to not get
answered?

I posted this question a day ago which I assumed many would be able to
answer but no replies at all

Excel does a very good job of knowing row 1 is column names even if
the data type is the same for the entire column.
But it is not always correct. If I insert columns of numbers then
insert a new row1 and put in text headers it considers them
column names even if the entire column is set to text. But if I
insert text data then insert a new row of text names it thinks they
are data. There must be some way to tell it the row is column names
both from the interface and programmatically I would think.
Does anyone know the rules here and how to directly set if col names or not?
