Rather than banning all job posts you can ban repetitive job posts, because

Hi Anil,
To get the exact results you indicated (10% of rounding up to next 100,000),
you can use any one of these formulas:
=ROUNDUP(A2,-5)/10
=ROUNDUP(A2/10,-4)

=(INT(A2/10)+(A2/10INT(A2/10)))*1

The ROUNDUP formulas will work with positive or negative numbers, but if you
will be working with negative numbers, verify that the rounding behavior is as
desired (ROUNDUP rounds away from zero rather than up).
The INT formula as written always rounds up (positives away from zero,
negatives towards zero).

   Hi Anil,
To get the exact results you indicated (10% of rounding up to next
100,000), you can use any one of these formulas:
 =ROUNDUP(A2,-5)/10
 =ROUNDUP(A2/10,-4)

 =(INT(A2/10)+(A2/10INT(A2/10)))*1

The ROUNDUP formulas will work with positive or negative numbers, but if
you will be working with negative numbers, verify that the rounding
behavior is as desired (ROUNDUP rounds away from zero rather than up).
The INT formula as written always rounds up (positives away from zero,
 negatives towards zero).

$$Excel-Macros$$ Multiple Challenging Excel Needs...

2012-05-31 Thread Dan Brimley
I have been asked to help with a bunch of Excel functions and programming.
There are a few that are beyond my level. I didn't come up with these
ideas, just trying to help the person who did, so the only details I have
are what they gave me. Any ideas on the following needs would be great:

-Can we link times in cells to the time and date of the computer so that
it will change color when it is past that time and date in the computer.
For example if it was 10a.m. today then any times or dates before 10a.m.
would have red cells and times after 10 am would be green.

- Also I have written a sort macro for some data on google drive and made a
button that user can click to sort data. Unfortunately the 2 columns I
wanted sorted have to be manually selected then I can click the button and
sort the data. I want to be able to just click the sort button without
selecting data. Is that possible to put in my macro? Whenever I click on my
sort macro button without selecting the 2 columns it gives me an error code
stating “cell reference out of range (line3).” I am not sure what I need to
change in my line 3 of code.

- On a different spreadsheet I would like to keep one day ahead of today
and have a macro that automatically deletes older days. For example today
is Monday so I would have Saturday and Sunday above that with 4 or 5 rows
of data below each day heading. I want a macro that deletes the Saturday
heading and the rows below it but keeps Sunday through Friday.

-Is it possible two have two columns sort by date and then by time
automatically without the use of macros?

-I am trying to create a rolling spreadsheet. For example every time a new
month/row is added to the spreadsheet all the previous data will rotate
down. Not only will it rotate down but once the month is below a certain
row the value will be multiplied by a percentage. Is this possible to do?

$$Excel-Macros$$ Dynamic tables based on values selected in cell

2012-05-31 Thread 0 1
Working with Excel 2007. Attached is a sample worksheet with all of the
sample data and desired result.

I have a worksheet (Data) that lists schools with students who have had
one or more problems:

School Student Issue
---
ABC Middle Bobby Detention
ABC Middle Bobby Suspension
ABC Middle John Detention
ABC Middle Mary Multiple absenses
XYZ Elem Kevin Detention
XYZ Elem Lisa Multiple absenses
etc.

For example, 3 students have Detention as a problem, 1 student has
Suspension as a problem, etc.

I use a pivot table to summarize the data like so:

Issue Number of Students with Problem
--
Detention 3
Suspension 1
Absenses 2

I realize pivot tables have a built-in drill down feature where you can
double click a value and expand to show values nested within it, etc. But
I'd like a different interface which I think will require VBA.

I would like the user to be able to drill down into this data like so:

1. In the above table, click on an issue (e.g., Detention) and, below the
table they just clicked on, table appears showing a list of Schools and the
number of students in that school with that particular problem:

School Number of Students with Problem
--
ABC Middle 2
XYZ Elem 1

In other words, the VBA needs to detect the value selected (e.g.,
Discipline), and then extract from the Data worksheet the list of
schools and the count of students with Discipline as a problem.

2. In this new table, click on a school (e.g., ABC Middle) and, below
this table, a table appears showing a list of students in that school with
the problem.

Student
--
Bobby
John

In other words, the VBA needs to detect the value selected (e.g., ABC
Middle), and then extract the list of students from ABC Middle with
Discipline a problem.

Obviously, if the user goes back to a previous table and makes a different
selection, the tables that follow should refresh to show the applicable
data.

Over time the data will change. The number of columns will always be the
same (for both tables), but the number of rows will vary.

Any suggestions or links about the best way to approach this?

Thank you.

 Hi Anil,
To get the exact results you indicated (10% of rounding up to next 100,000),
you can use any one of these formulas:
 =ROUNDUP(A2,-5)/10
 =ROUNDUP(A2/10,-4)

 =(INT(A2/10)+(A2/10INT(A2/10)))*1

The ROUNDUP formulas will work with positive or negative numbers, but if you
will be working with negative numbers, verify that the rounding behavior is
as desired (ROUNDUP rounds away from zero rather than up).
The INT formula as written always rounds up (positives away from zero,
 negatives towards zero).

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Lookup and return 2nd occurrance

2012-05-31 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hi Hilary,

Mind sharing your solution with the group?

What came to mind for me was an array solution that uses small/row to
identify the second smallest row number for the matching name, and index to
retrieve the reference to the cell.

Here's a formula using that approach:

{

=INDEX(NamesRange,SMALL(IF(NamesRange=NameToFind,ROW(NamesRange)),OccurenceN
umber)-ROW(INDEX(NamesRange,1))+1)

}

If you were going to use many of these formulas, NamesRange was large, and
often there was not going to be a match (for example there was only one
occurrence and you were looking for the second), you could speed up the
formulas by use the following version that checks the count (using countif)
of matching names, and if the count is OccurenceNumber (2 in your stated
question) it will skip the array formula and just return an error. If there
will usually be a match, this would actually be slower since it has the
added countif.

{

=IF(COUNTIF(NamesRange,NameToFind)OccurenceNumber,#NUM!,INDEX(NamesRange,SM
ALL(IF(NamesRange=NameToFind,ROW(NamesRange)),OccurenceNumber)-ROW(INDEX(Nam
esRange,1))+1))

}

Upon a little more thought, here is a non-array solution for finding exactly
the 2nd occurrence (the array version would work for finding any specific
occurrence). It uses match to find the first occurrence, then another match
to find the next occurrence. It should be faster---it has less work to do.
If there is no match it either returns an NA error or if the only match was
on the very last row of the range, a REF error.

=INDEX(NamesRange,MATCH(NameToFind,NamesRange,0)+MATCH(NameToFind,INDEX(Name
sRange,MATCH(NameToFind,NamesRange,0)+1):INDEX(NamesRange,ROWS(NamesRange)),
0))

Asa
